The "I received the Htc fps update" thread

Ok so I am rooted and It did not allow me to install the update it kept hanging up at around 30%. So I flashed the Rooted Stock Sense Rom from XDA that Droidone (thanks) posted. I got to say it took quite a bit of time. But the wait was well worth it. I cant complain everything is silky smooth. And the icing on the cake, Pandora and Slacker sound alot better.

If you're rooted, you should never accept OTA updates. Best case, you lose root. Worst case, you have a brick. The worst case happened to someone today. S-ON bootloader with broken recovery and broken OS after he flashed the OTA 3.29.

I got the update yesterday, and noticed right away the swiping through home screens is a lot zippier. it seems a bit quicker, but does the removal of the 30 fps effect games at all? I play homerun battle 3d all the time, and it always slows down a bit, but played the same game on the epic 4g, and it was faster and smoother with no slow down, I guess i thought if they removed that, then games would play faster and smoother, but I guess it only applies to recording videos, can someone explain that to me please? either way this phone keeps on getting better and better, very impressed with Sprints updates

Mine is stilllll pretty sluggish going in and out of SMS conversations... for example, it takes a good five to seven full seconds from pressing the back button in a conversation to bring me back to the list of conversations.
I even did the "how to fix froyo" procedure yesterday.
2.1 seemed to be less sluggish for me.
I guess I'll see if it improves over time.

From a post of mine earlier in this thread:

You've misunderstood the nature of the "FPS cap." The FPS cap isn't a "performance issue."

There are two independent components for FPS -- the actual graphics processing, and the display. Before, regardless of the processing, the display was being limited to 30 fps. Now that is lifted, so to the extent, our graphics processing can handle more than 30, it will display it.

However, this does nothing for the graphics processing, which the Evo is known to not be the greatest at. The Droid X and Samsung phones have much more advanced 3D processors than the Snapdragon/Evo, and this update does nothing to solve that.

Might be how many SMS you have stored -- I originally disabled the "remove old messages" feature and found that things slow down quite a bit as the messages racked up (1000+ for some conversations)

You might feel that 2.1 was faster, but it could be because it correlates with your phone having fewer accumulated SMS messages at that time.

Yeah, I'm going back through and deleting most conversations now.
But I was on 2.1 all up until the most recent OTA came out, and that's when I upgraded to 2.2 and then to the newest OTA. And right before the update, it was still going pretty quick in and out of conversations.

Ok can someone help me out here?

I just bought my Evo yesterday brand new out of the box. How do I go about getting this update? Along with other updates i.e. Froyo..etc?

Is it autmatically included? Do I do it manually?

I appreciate any help
!
Thanks

If it's new, you already have Froyo. Tap the Menu button, then go:

Settings > About Phone > Software Information

and see what's listed under "Android version". Froyo is 2.2.

To get this latest update, go:

Settings > System Updates > HTC Software Updates > Check Now
