What great difference would the Xperia with 16m colours have to the naked eye?

It doesn't seem to make any different to me

So what is such the big deal with it for everyone else? People are threatening to get a new phone if the Xperia doesn't get 16m.

Just to be clear because some people may mislead this as me being a noob, i am actually asking this question because I am intrigued, not being noob lol

its not JUST the 16m colours that people are annoyed about - its all the BS sony have said about this phone even before it was released

People went out getting 24 month contracts or buying on a PAYG basis on the fact that the phone will do everything that sony have said after an update...hence being a very good phone, but now with all the delays etc, sony are going back on their word and saying that the phone wont have / not capable of having certain things (MT, 16m etc)

People are tired of all their lies!

With the 1.6 FW and not having 2.1, 2.2 or the next FW (2.3 or 3.0) Its like having a ferrari but having a fiat 500 engine under the hood

This is my view...someone esle might have a different approach on the matter

why should he not complain??

He has paid good money for a product and not getting the full potential out if it? (whether its 16m colours or something else)

Sony should not keep promises they cant keep - simples

Well I'm only talking about 16m here so that is all that really matters in this topic. My point is why complain? what would be different with 16m colours? apart from the fact of being told it has 16m colours, there's no difference to the naked eye, that is the point I am trying to make.

I have always used SE phones (apart from my previous phone which was a Nokia 5800) and never had a problem with any. I know SE have a bad reputation but as long as my phone works and does what I want it to do, I'm not fussed.

well in that case just mod YOUR Xperia to do it... and stop complaining

OK I wasn't going to post on this but I cant help it...

You must be a dev god! Now tell us and the devs on XDA how to crack the bootloader to install the part of 2.1 that is needed to run 16m colours! In fact there is a bounty over on XDA for the person who can crack the bootloader and if you know a way to do it then you could pocket over

i have never seen a phone with 16m colour (that i know of) but if your cant see the difference between the 2 then something is wrong??

Only going on the basis that 65k and 16m is not exactly close

Just found this topic about the difference between 256k and 16m colours....if they can see the difference then the difference between 65k an 16m is even bigger

difference Between 256K colors and 16M colors?? - Mobile-Review.com Forums

The difference is really not visible in all scenarios, especially the x10 interface has been designed in such a way to hide this flaw. This difference becomes completely visible when u r viewing pics which have various shades in them.....lyk sunset...even wid sum of the themes in panda home....download the halloween theme open the menu wid the brightness blown up.....u'll definitely notice,n sum wallpapers in the abstract section on xperiax10.net

As a scientist and an X10 owner, I was intrigued by this argument. So I did some rudimentary calculations and I have discovered that the human eye can only distinguish 10 million colours. And yet you all want 16 million?

That means that almost 40% of those colours will go to waste: dripping onto your hands while you're texting, polluting our streams and rivers and giving people cancer.
Can you imagine the effort and resources that have gone into giving you those 6 million unused colours?
Won't somebody please think of the workers, the environment; of our children?

This is exactly what I was trying to say. It's good to see it's been proven by someone who is a scientist and an Xperia X10 owner :)

Wow...some people have to much time on the hands.....and its only an "esitmate" - so its not proven as CuBz states

Cant see how the extra colours are going to waste and how (in a non scientific way) are the extra 40% of colours on your phone polluting streams and giving people cancer??

Think of the workers...well there still employed and earning a wage (not sure how much but at least its a wage) for their families instead of going out and robbing the old lady down the street for their next fix

Maybe your time would actually be better spent trying to find a cure for cancer that is actually affordable to everyone?

just my thoughts

*facepalm*

Sigh... Dibberly (if that is your real name), I was being ironic, sarcastic, satirical, witty.

Those colours that your 20/20 vision can't cope with won't really spill out of your handset and down over your hands. They're just pixels and they're trapped within your phone.
You'll see this when we get 2.1, but in the meantime, try it on a computer screen.
See? They stay put.

My point, such as it was, is that there's really no point in wishing one's life away for a product that you can't physically use 40% of anyway.
One doesn't buy trousers that are 40% too long, just so you can turn them up.
One doesn't buy a pint of delicious beer and then throw 227.2ml of it away.
It is a waste.

And no, I don't have too much time on my hands. And I don't work on cancer. But I will continue trying to save the world from TB.

If that's OK with you and your bionic eyes?

Have a special day. ;)

6000 loving your work buddy!:D

Do you wear a special outfit whilst saving the world from excess of colours and the blight that is TB. Or maybe just an extra pair of underpants over the top of your trousers:eek:

Underpants? Is this some sort of trick question to see if you can pop by and take a silent photograph? (you wish)

No, I wear a green gown (I can't describe the exact shade in 1.6), a fricken big mask and rubber gloves.

It's a very fetching look. We're all hoping here that the industrial research scientist look is next season's new black.

If I'm absolutely honest though, we've been hoping that for quite a while now.
