Official OTA Update Discussion

When I called AT&T to start setting them up for a phone exchange, they got me into a three way call with Samsung Tech support and the same firmware was mentioned. At first I thought the same, probably confused and said the wrong letter. However, now I see Samsung's Twitter account saying the same.

Probably a typo in the official line from the Lawyers' office that both support and the rep on Twitter are using when making that statement.

Thanks smart-ass, I was looking at the Samsung Support twitter.

You're welcome. Sorry about that. I was getting frustrated reading this thread with a whole bunch of posts from people asking questions that were already answered in prior posts (within the same thread.)

The problem is, that's nothing new-- nobody wants to read, they just want to jump on here and post their question.

But I'm ranting and your request had nothing to do with that anyway. However, I'm not sure what it was you wanted him to post a link to if you already were looking at the Galaxy tweets.

I wanted a link to where they mention DH7 firmware, it is obviously a typo.

Ok I have had my phone for a week or so now and just started looking at this forum. I have only added some apps from the market to my phone besides that havent changed anything. I have tried to search for the update under settings. It has the option to resume update or search for update. When you click update is says no firmware found. I havent tried resume update because I never actually started the download. Anyone know what I should do or try?

nvm:got it to download once i turned off wifi

Hi folks,

Where is the update? I scanned the forums and didn't find an answer. So I went in the phone's settings and checked software updates, it looked for updates but didn't find any. Then I recieved a txt from ATT saying that a new update is available and that when asked to install, select OK, what is that all about? My phone is also rooted, can I still upgrade using ATT update?

Thanks!

Well first I couldn't update cause it failed then it said "No Firmware" when I clicked software update.

I assumed it had to do with my overclock kernal.

So I backed up every thing in titanium and flashed the JH7 update onto the phone.

I reinstalled everything with titanium (this took so long OMG)

So it updated but now every so often my phone says "NO software update was applied" or "Communication with AT&T's servers failed"

and the software update button says no firmware.

Is there a way to fix this with out a factory reset? It seemed to be fine till titanium reinstalled all the system apps and settings

I just went up through the ranks of Samsung customer support right before posting this to try to find out if there are in fact any other update in the works.

Chat first, won't waste your time posting it here as it has already wasted enough of my time.

Second, phone call to "tier 2" support, had me do a battery pull and restart, obviously a waste of time.

Third, I got transferred to "tier 3" support, apparently the highest level of support and where I was really trying to get anyway. Had me go into settings and turn on "wireless networks", yet another complete waste of time. However, I wasn't looking for him to fix it over the phone, I only wanted information. Believe me when I tell you I held his feet to the fire looking for some information on whether or not there was ANY information or ANY update coming out AFTER the JH7 OTA update. He assured me there was no information on any other update in the pipe other than JH7 which had obviously already been released. I did get him to divulge that they have had "a few" other calls from people who's GPS was still not working even after the update and that the calls that had come in so far were only for the samsung captivate and that they hadn't had any other calls in regards to the other Galaxy S phones on the other carriers which seems suspect to me since to the best of my knowledge, all the other Galaxy S phones share the same GPS problems. He said all he could do was take down my information and pass it on to "research and development". I even tried to get him to transfer me to research and development to no avail.

In the end, the only recourse I had was to mail a letter to "Customer Relations" or some such thing in Texas explaining my situation. I really believe that the only thing I took from the conversation that was of any real use is that the only way they are going to do anything about the problem is if they get enough people calling and complaining about it.
Do yourself and all of us a favor and call in to voice your concern with getting the problem fixed. It only takes a couple of minutes and maybe someone will be able to get more information than I was able to. 1-888-987-4357. Sorry I don't have better news to report.

On facebook, people with Samsung Vibrant are reporting that there was a new update via Kies available this morning and supposedly GPS is finally working. It is a JI5 firmware, which indicates it is a September build, unlike JH7 which is an August build.

I hope this means Cappy is getting an update too. i tried OTA on the phone and got "Unable to Communicate" error again, which I wasn't getting since I updated to JH7.

Interesting. So you're able to check for an update? When I click Software Update I get a "No firmware" message. I did do the JH7 OTA update without any errors.

You mean when you click on "Check For Update"? After I updated to JH7, it used to say "No Update Available", now it says Can't connect.
I'll try Kies tonight when I get home to see if there is an update.

Has anyone checked kies latelty to see if we have another update? I am at work right now so cant check until later this evening.

Edit: I doubt we will have one waiting but you never know :)

I have Kies up and running right now.

Current Version v1.5.1.10074_45

Yes, there is an update....will keep you posted.

*edit* There is an update for the Kies software, I haven't checked any other updates. Do firmware update notifications come automatically through Kies?
