Gorilla Glass / Any scratches yet?

I don't have any scratches on mine and it's been without a case for 6 weeks. However, it randomly started powering off and giving me invalid SIM messages so I now have a new/refurb phone right next to the original and I must say, the screen on the 'new' one is much smoother to the touch, and far less of a fingerprint magnet.

I cleaned my original phone's screen with warm water and soap until it was pristine and flawless. While completely scratch-free, it's not as smooth as the new one. There must be some sort of coating applied that wears off over time. The far edges of my original phone are just as 'slippery' as the entire screen on the new one. The middle and bottom of the original phone's screen feels almost dull in comparison, even though it is completely scratch-free and there is no visually discernible difference between the two screens.

Is there some sort of polish Samsung uses to make the screen ultra-smooth? If so, how can the screen be restored so it's uniformly smooth?

The video proves that it's insane to not use a body glove. Yes we can live with scratches, so maybe we don't need screen protectors, but dropping from ear level clearly damaged the phone really badly.

I agree!

Cool video though, just wish it was in english so I could understand what they are talking about.... :) I keep my Captivate in my pocket with nothing else, the screen is still scratch free after 2 months.

I removed the Zagg I think about 2-3 weeks ago. Any concern I had about potentially scratching the screen soon diminished. I also use the Body Glove case, which keeps it from sliding between the seat bottom and backrest of my car's passenger seat when I'm driving. I am land-locked where I live. If I lived by the coast and was exposed to sand and stuff I might be more concerned.

I haven't looked at the video cuz I'm at work but I dropped my phone face down from about 4 ft. The other day with no screen protector or case. Glad to say...... "not even a scratch"

I had a Phantomskinz kit on mine. Didn't care for the orange peel look, and the corners of the body kit kept peeling up. Got an AT&t screen protector, but still had some rainbow coloring. Finally, I just took everything off and am rockin' it naked. I figure I'd rather enjoy this beautiful screen instead of being so concerned about protecting it.

I might go back to the body glove case just because the phone is almost TOO thin and light. A gust of wind almost blew it out of my hands yesterday.

So I have a total of about three to four weeks with no screen protection and no scratches.

I just got a replacement Captivate on Friday, and today (Monday) I am noticing a bunch of little scratches on the screen like the coating of the screen was applied improperly and normal wear and tear will end up making this phone look horrible. I have had it for a weekend and I can already notice the scratches, even though I can only notice them when the phone is off. But, since it has only been one weekend, I am not sure how good this phone will look after I have had it for a few months.

I had my previous phone for almost a month and the screen looks great. I wonder if Amazon Wireless will replace a second one for me...?

How is the GPS in your replacement unit? AT&T insisted on me trying another replacement... Have one on its way.

When I first tried it, it worked great. But, today I tried it today and couldn't get a lock after 15 minutes. It sounds like the GPS on everyone's Captivate, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I haven't updated to the latest version of the firmware yet though.

Here are the scratches I am getting on the screen. It is very apparent when you take a picture with a flash or when you are outside. Amazon Wireless is as cool as can be about it and they are sending me a replacement.

How in the world did that happen?

I have only been using a body glove since 7/18. I have two small scratches, but they aren't noticeable at all because the screen is so vibrant. Other than that, flawless. Though the Body Globe has been causing scratches at the top of the case because dirt gets caught between it and the handset.

I think it has to be a manufacturing defect because my wife's Captivate and my first Captivate never had these issues. Yet, after 4 days of normal use, the screen already looks horrible in sunlight.

Four weeks here, no scratches. It came with a screen protector when I got it, but after using it for about an hour (with no major rainbow effect) I ended up taking it off because swype texting got slightly more cumbersome. I do, however, use a neoprene rubber case for shock absorption.

I'd LIKE to have it naked, but I fear that something horrible will happen the day I decide to take it off.

*No case - no screen protector*

I dropped it on the concrete pumping gas the other day. It bounced on the top corner between the headphone jack and the power button, then landed flat, glass down. My stomach felt like it was gonna fall out of my rear watching it in slow motion. lol

There is no sign of a scratch anywhere on the glass.

Do you wear an earring? Looks like earring scratches.

No, I don't wear an ear ring and I keep the phone in my front pocket by itself. Like I said, I had my previous Captivate for almost a month and the screen looks perfect. I had this phone for 3 days when I noticed the screen. The screen actually seems to get worse the more I use it. It even feels a little less smooth in certain areas.
My new phone comes in tomorrow. Third times a charm...
