I been trying to install Cyanogen for about 2 weeks now. I'm able to just download Baked Snack 1.7 from Rom Manager no problem which I'm running now. But whenever I try flashing Cyanogen from Rom manager or even from CyanogenMod-6 for Evo: Is that an Evo in your pocket..? V6.0.0 (08/27/2010) - CyanogenMod Forum and http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/175655-cyanogen6-link.html just recently thinking I wasnt using the right zip. It gives me an aborted Error status 7 installation aborted! Any suggestions? I seen some serious game play, (FPS at 50) and just a whole lot of customization while browsing on youtube and I want in!

Thanks in advance

OMG!!! FINALLY!!! I've been up NIGHTS trying to figure this thing out thank you soooo much.. Cyanogen is loading just as I write this..

So in case some day in the future a newbie comes up with the same problem I will write out how I finally solved this damn issue with some detail..

So what I ended up doing was on the link above..

I downloaded the ENG Hboot update and placed it on the root of my SD card (the root is basically just leaving it on the sd card without putting it on a folder. its directory should say something like E:\Eng_Hboot)

I also got the cyanogen rom downloaded and also placed it on the root of the sd card.

Next shut off the phone (make sure your current rom is backed up at this point) and turn it back on holding the power button AND the button on the side of the phone to LOWER the volume.

You'll be on the bootloader screen. go up with the volume button and with the power button and select bootloader. Then go down and choose RECOVERY.

at this point you go to "install zip from sd card" and find the ENG Hboot thing and click it and let it update (*a note this is what is referred to as "flashing")... Now let it reboot.

if you had the same situation as I did, you are now crapping yourself realizing that you cant boot back to your current rom and you cant restore with your previous back ups... dont fret.. at this point go back and select bootloader and "install zip from sd card" and choose the cyanogen rom and VIOLA!!! you know have the cyanogen rom installed with the capabilities of going back to your previous rom once again..

Thanks again to you SniperDroid, I am eternally grateful!

one last thing, where can I find this snap7.6 Kernal? thanks for all the help!

So what's been keeping me from doing this is I understood that you couldn't restore Nandroid backups of ROMs that were created on bootloader 0.93 when you changed to 0.76. It seems to me that if you flash the ENG bootloader you are stuck with CM6 and then flashing new ROMs rather than recovering to any of your Nand backups - are you saying that's not the case?

Hmmmm well actually, I just kinda assumed that it would. and you know what they say happens when you assume? is makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me"

I'll tell you what, at the moment I am flashing the snap kernel (which btw am I suppose to partition the drive before I did this?) and then by tomorrow (well today technically.) I'll try and recover with my other nandroids and if it doesn't work I'll try and see if this other "pain in the ass" way I know of reverting it back to previous nandroids works and I'll let you know...

but I'm fairly certain there is a way to go back to the old nandroids...

I'll let you know what my results are, as for now... sleep :D

Oh one last thing to the expirienced guys out here... what is meant by over/under clocking and how do I do this? Also how do I do these IQ test or quadrant tests to see how my android is doing?

Thanks again for all the help fellas

Sooo sorry this took me so long to get back to this, life got in the way :)

but anyways... so yes you were absolutely right.. after getting cyanogen and upgrading the hboot you cant just go and click on your old nandroid and BAM! your back to whatever previous rom you had.. but there is a way.

as I said in the previous reply there is a pain in the ass way I know of getting back on your old nandroid, but lucky for you all, I just did it and realized its actually not that bad at all, actually it was quite easy.

So what I ended up doing was redownloading the PC36IMG.zip You know the one used for rooting and put it on the root of my SD card. I rebooted into bootloader and let the whole thing run. I hit yes to allow the "upgrade".. let it do its thing.

reboot (you may notice at this point while your stare at your phone and see that it is exactly as it looked when you first got it that OMFG!! the phone isn't rooted anymore!! chill the hell out! when you recover on to your nandroid backup it'll be back again.) then go to recovery (power button + down, select recovery*) and select your old nandroid then BAM!! your back to your old nandroid

** oh and side note.. if you decide that you want to go back to cyanogen you have to upgrade the hboot once again..

Enjoy the cyanogen rom, I know I did ;)
