FlashLight that uses Camera Flash

You're the one quick to judge. You assume we have no experience coding or don't know the time and effort it takes to debug. I've been a software engineer for 12years.

We didnt say anything was wrong with Chet's app. But why should I pay 99cents if there are more than one developer giving it out for free. Though I do appreciate Chet's work, it's a fairly simple app and thus why others have done it and feel they can give it away for free. All the other developers had to figure it out just the same and put in the same amount of time. By giving this app out for free maybe next time Ryan Alford sells an app, im going to buy it since I'll remember he hooked it up on the Moto Torch.

No need to get on a high horse and try to make others feel bad for downloading a free app. What, you don't think the other developers are helping this community? Props to them for doing it free just for the Droid love.

EOM

Although there is a free app, you guys don't have to be that quick to judge. Chet has put many hours of his personal time into learning how to code. I respect his effors and his speed to market. He deserves to make a few bucks on his lifetime investment. On day you will learn how hard one has to work to get to the point of developing applications.

I am happy to pay for this app, and to contribute to the android community.

Thanks Chet.

Yeah, man, 99 cents for an app that you will actually use? What a rip off . What incentive is there for people to create apps if everything's free? That's why Apple revamped their app store. Developers were bitching about all the freeware. Apps should always get rated higher JUST because it's free. Especially when it's 99 cents cheaper.

Plus, I emailed Chet directly from the market email address and he got right back to me in response to my suggestions. That's service.

Search for MotoTorch to find eclipsed4utoo's software and LED Flashlight for Chet's.

I just searched the AM and both are there, although finding Chet's is a bit hard b/c someone else also uses the same name (with /strobe added on at the end) and is charging the same price....

Also, if you're using AndroLib - neither shows up in there. Apparently AndroLib is at the very least a week behind, if not more, right now....

[soapbox]All you folks bitching about Chet's app versus Ryan's app - if you will stop for a second, take a step back, breathe, and then go to page 2 of this thread, you'll see that they were collaborating, sharing experiences on how they were trying to get this app working. As Chet himself said, there is no animosity - so WTF are you guys making something outta nothing?

Please, people, take a chill pill already.[/soapbox]

@Chet - When I first posted in this thread. I was not aware of the 24 return policy of AM. Now that I am, it makes life a little easier - but I already have the other app, and after donating to Ryan, will follow suit for you as well - the both of you showed the true programming spirit here, by not bickering, collaborating, sharing ideas, even as you are in direct 'competition' with each other.

You two really showed the spirit of why this is such a great OS to develop for.

Watch for a PM from me with my real name and my donation via PayPal, Ryan and Chet.

Oh, yeah, nice interview, BTW

Mine is easy to find right now by looking at the Top Paid Apps. It is about #15 on the "All applications" list, but is #5 and on the first page if you go to the Top Paid "Tools" category.

Also, look for my icon :)

I'm unable to find LED Flashlight or Mototorch. Maybe because I'm using 1.5? I wanted to try if either of these apps would work on my Samsung Moment (I don't expect that these apps will work because I assumed they were using APIs from 2.0 SDK but I wanted to try anyway)

You are correct, I have defined a minimum SDK version of 2.0. Mainly because I have no way to test on any other version. The emulator is useless for testing hardware controls like this.

is that something that is wanted, for the strobe to be bright? Both of us have had that working since before we released these apps.

i would actually prefer the option to have full brightness but not on pulse, if the API allows that (i could see how it might not). so full brightness with pulse, or full brightness without pulse, two different settings, would be ideal.

btw, i think it's awesome that you guys have such a friendly competition going here and there's no animosity or anything. it's the reason i donated to both even though i obviously only really need one :)

The full brightness for the "flashlight" is what I have been looking into. I didn't think anybody would care if the strobe was bright.

And there's really no need for there to be animosity. Competition makes both of our apps better. I am working on features to hopefully get them out before Chet does, and I am sure he is doing the same.
