Well the fix you're talking about just installs different versions of the Phone.apk and the Contacts.apk. It installs the files from a Bugless Beast theme over this ROM, but the guide I wrote enables the original Miui apks to work. If you don't care and just want it to work, your fix will work fine, but with such an exotic ROM I figure most people will want the whole enchilada.

As far as the error you're getting, I get a similar error on a regular basis. Clockworkmod Recovery is extremely finicky and can't mount the SD card with any reasonable level of consistency. I usually do my installs by manually booting into recovery, and sometimes I will get that error 5 times in a row, but on the 6th try it works.

There is a remedy that seems to help the issue, but never fix it. If you go into ROM manager, tap the menu button and clear your download cache. Then flash alternate recovery, then flash back to Clockworkmod Recovery. That might help, or it might not. It's nothing to be scared of though, and it EVENTUALLY will work.

Hmm idk lol i switched back to BB V.4 because i love the long battery use of it lol but thanks for the tips

also i added your guide to the thread

Thanks! Yeah, the dialer fix you linked to installs Bugless Beast themed files over the Miui ones. Maybe you could make a note of that. The only way to have working Miui phone/contacts is to install over another ROM, preferably SS 4.8.

Anyhow, this might all be immaterial when the new version (V. 3) is released today. Hopefully that one will work installing after a full data/cache wipe.

I've been on this ROM for almost 2 days now, and I'm pretty happy... The speed is good, and haven't had any FC's yet... To be honest, I'm not using it like it was meant to be used, as I'm using Launcher Pro, which negates the majority of what this ROM is meant for, but I really like the icons, and the lock screen... I flashed it over SS 4.8 (Which I absolutely loved) but thought it was worth a look... As always with my particular phone, I found the slayher 1.6 LV 1200 Kernel to work the best, and stay the coolest... If it weren't for the lack of an app drawer, I would have used the stock ROM. I do miss the music controls from SS 4.8, and am really disliking the lack of a status bar on the lock screen, but otherwise am content... I think I have read that the next version is due out soon, so we will see what happens... There's my .002 for anyone who wants another opinion... Thanks

I'm usually all about LauncherPro as well but I'm using the stock launcher and loving it. With all my games in one folder and all the apps I never use in another, I only take up 8 home screens on Miui - not that different from the 7 home screens I was using with LauncherPro.

It took a little getting used to and I actually went to the effort of alphabetizing almost all of the apps, but I'm quickly getting used to not having an app drawer. The more I use this ROM, the more I like it.

Had you noticed that if you long press the text message icon on the home screen it takes you straight to your unread texts? Cool feature. Same for missed calls with the phone icon.

I had actually thought about putting all my apps in a folder, and using that as an app drawer... Maybe I will try that... I normally only use 5 screens, so I guess I would have to... Thanks for the tips!

That would work, but the only problem is there is currently no way to automatically alphabetize the contents of a folder. So if you want them alphabetized you would have to add them all in alphabetical order, which could get pretty cumbersome.

I found this video that shows a lot of the cool stuff you can do with this ROM from the stock launcher:

That was great! Re-working everything as I speak... Do you have any idea where that lock screen came from? Looked very cool!

That would be great! Would love to know! I used one with my Eris called GoTo, and it was pretty awesome, but like that one better! So I'm about done, it actually worked out great, using a folder to put all of the apps that I rarely use... I do wish I could put a folder in the dock, to act like an app drawer, but I'm ok without it... Thanks for all your help! I'm liking this!

i posted on the youtube vid but I had a couple of questions, if anyone might be able to answer them i'd appreciate it.

first: i believe the weather app in the status bar is weatherbug but since I have actually never used it i just wanted confirmation.

second: i have never seen the widget that he has in the video that is next to rom manager and wireless tether, it looks like its a status widget, i'm kinda interested in checking it out, if anyone knows what it is...

third: what the heck was the contact cube next to the home screen? that thing looked bad ass, is it something included in the rom?

I'm still really hesitant to flash this for some stupid reason, got cm6 backed up and bb v5 running perfectly but this thing looks so bad ass. just still waiting cause its had a couple versions released for it already and there is supposed to be a third dropping anytime if it hasnt already.

thx!

Nate

This ran fine for me for a few hours, then it was a steady decline in performance with the stock launcher with lagging and redraws, so I went to Launcherpro and it worked better for a while, but had problems rebooting and eventually locked up on me. Went back to BB v.05 after that.

Were you using SetCPU? It's not necessary with this ROM and can even be detrimental to performance.

What's the point of chiming in to knock a ROM you haven't even tried yet?

oh im sorry i didnt realize this was your thread... no wait this isn't your thread. in this case let me iterate. as messenger stated (since you obviously didn't read his thread or just decided to try and flame me alone). i was going to try this rom. however IT IS NOT A GOOD SIGN WHEN THE OP GIVES UP ON THEIR THREAD. now i wasn't knocking this rom. i simply thought this was funny. relax a bit lol. i was more commenting on his comment as it was indeed funny.

Yes, I was. I was running Chevy's 1.2Ghz maxed out and set to Performance mode. Did this lead to my demise?

I can only speculate, but I'm also running Chevy's 1.2 GHz (ULV in my case) and I haven't installed SetCPU and performance has been buttery smooth. I was running BBV0.5 before I switched to Miui so that's why I didn't have SetCPU installed (since Pete said V0.5 didn't need it). I decided to wait to install it to see how performance was without it and it's been so good I haven't installed it. Battery life has been stellar as well, better than the last few ROMs I've been running.

Quadrant scores are slightly lower than with other ROMs, but my concern is performance, not outrageous quadrant scores. The highest I've gotten with this kernel is just over 1300, I think maybe 1346 was the highest? On the flipside, the people using SetCPU with this ROM are reporting higher quadrant scores than they've ever had with any ROM (one guy posted a screen shot with a score of 1800). But they're also reporting more performance issues. This leads to my hunch that the ROM does a really good job handling clock speeds without assistance from SetCPU.

Also, did you notice the CPU button on the menu at the bottom of the drop-down notification panel? I didn't do anything with it for the first couple days I had this ROM installed and it was unlit that whole time. Today I learned that if it is unlit, the CPU is being slightly underclocked by 150-200 MHz. So for that entire two days I was actually underclocked and performance was still pretty jaw dropping.

If you kept a backup and you're so inclined, see how it works for you without SetCPU installed.

How did I flame you? My post was directed at both you and messenger, the only reason I didn't quote both of you is because I was walking my dog and it would've been hard to quote two people from the browser on my Droid.

The OP abandoned the ROM before the kinks were ironed out. They've been ironed out. Based on the fact that he's continued to post on this thread, he may have even come back now that we've fixed the major issues.

It's not my thread but I've spent several hours working with this ROM. I created the file that has become the official update to the Droid version of this ROM. I wrote the install guide that has became the official install guide for this ROM for the Droid. So excuse me if after hours upon hours of work put into this ROM it irks me a little when someone comes on this thread and offhandedly puts down the ROM before they even try it.

Relaxing now....

Anyhow, If you want to try this ROM please acknowledge there are a few remaining minor issues mentioned in my post on the first page. You must flash over another ROM, preferably SS 4.8 for the "stock" Miui dialer to work without force closing.

If you follow my guide on the first page or here:
[ROM] Zen-MIUI v2 Android 2.2 + MIUI - Page 81 - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum
you will have a very close to fully functional install. The two main outstanding issues are that you can't dial *228 without a force close (since this is a port from a Nexus One ROM) and if you click on SD Card & Phone Storage settings in the settings menu you will get a force close. There might be a couple other minor bugs that you will probably never discover (consider them easter eggs).

There is a fix for the *228 issue but it reverts back to the stock in-call screen, though the Miui dialer/contact remain intact.

V3 of this ROM was supposed to come out last night, so I have high hopes that it will at least be out by the end of the weekend. My hope is that it will address the remaining issues with this ROM.
