Root Using Netarchy kernel on Fresh 3.2... Insane battery drain...

Rooted using the unrevoked 3 method. have been rooted for about 3 days now. i used to be able to flash recovery before i tried those pc36img files last night. but before last night it never said "eng s-off" at the top. i forgot exactly what it said but something like box or out of box. also the hboot version had been changed to the 76.2 so i figured that now i have eng bootloader because that's not what i had before last night.

i mean i'm on fresh 3.2 right now with the original kernel it just seems i'm not able to flash another kernel on there. if i could do that and have my recovery give me issues i'd be a happy clam.

wake, you are the man! I don't know why it worked this time but it did. I used netarchy-toastmod 4.1.8-bfs-bfq instead of the one you are using and it worked. does the HAVS on the 4.1.9.1 you are using have something to do with why that kernel may have not worked for me? i just want to try to understand what went wrong and what i did to cause it. thanks again for your help i really appreciate it.

as for the battery life i guess i will have to wait and see how that works out

Yeah, in all honesty...the best battery i got was the non-HAVS kernel .8 CFS with setcpu underclocked in the 700's and the screen off profile at 245. With fresh. I'll probably go back to that, but I'm experimenting with Baked snacks 1.7 over the last couple of days. One with setcpu and one without.

I switched back bc my profiles in set cpu saved battery better than HAVS

I am also having issues with awake time with these kernels. I am thinking of going away from HAVS.

The problem is that sleep time is pretty good... 0.5-2% drain per hr.

The awake time with kings was 30% per hr (holy ****ing shit), 20% on netarchy 4.1.9.1, and 15-20% stock with latest OTA.

Those numbers are a little bit ridiculous.

I'm only running my 3000mah extended battery now, but on baked snacks 1.7 with setcpu underclocked and screen off profile (after a full drain with battery stats wiped)...i get about 8 to 9 hours of awake time.

That seems to be really good, but you hear that setcpu doesn't work good with HAVS. I don't know anymore. I actually think alot of this stuff is placebo. I didn't run setcpu on the first drain, which was significantly shorter. I'm going to run no setcpu again tomorrow on the fourth discharge and see if it makes a difference.

Thephone should do like 4 to 5 hrs awake time. Something Is up with these kernels. robi defense which I could play a day on stock is draining 1% every 2 minutes. I am going forevert to atock pre ota.

With my 3000, 8 to 9 hours of awake time does adjust to about 4 to 5 for a stock battery. I don't understand what you mean.

My phone should do 4-5 hrs awake time. It does not get that far. At 1% battery drain per minute awake, it could do 3 hrs at best. I have no idea what happened to my phone but flashing a PC36IMG with a 100% rooted stock had no effect on this whatsoever (Pre OTA). Ugh again with this annoying business.

with my 12 dollar 3000 extended battery, I fully charged it friday night. As I type this on Sunday night at 6:12 pm, I have 30% battery left. 41 hours, 17 min up time. 7 hours, 52 min awake time. My usage this weekend was light, whereas it is usually pretty heavy. But I hope this shows people the 12 dollar battery is a great investment. Running baked snack 1.7. No setcpu installed.

Link the battery?

New 3000mA Extended Battery+Cover For Sprint HTC EVO 4G - eBay (item 180542876042 end time Oct-04-10 09:13:03 PDT)

I got the external charger package. This link is just the battery.

Nice. I am still concerned that my installation is acting wacky though. At this rate of bat drain I'll get 4-5 hrs with the extend battery vs that with the standard battery. Idle drain is 1-2% per hr, active drain is 1% per 1-2 minutes.

I really need some advice as to how can this even be caused, how to remedy the issue, why the hell is it even happening, how to "reset" the phone to the way it was...? If I can get the phone draining battery normally, I would gladly get the extended battery just to get some more life out of it.

I have to leave my office, so I can't reread all the steps you have tried. Have you done a factory reset and just started over from scratch? I would do that because it isn't normal to have that type of drain. You sound like you know what you are doing enough to figure it out if it was a glaring issue. Have you uninstalled setcpu (not sure if you are even using it). I'll check back in on the thread from my phone. Good luck.

PS: The idle drain sounds pretty normal. I get between 0% and 1% idle drain with my extended battery per hour. That is with and without Setcpu. No difference. Those numbers would translate to what you are getting with the stock battery. Have you tried a bunch of different kernels?

Tried every kernel under the sun. How do I do a factory reset? If you read though this entire post, you can see what techniques I tried. Basically clearing cache/dalvik cache/phone data does pretty much nothing. Clearing the Dalvik cache using Amun Ra causes insane-o battery drain when idle. I am not sure if doing that in clockwork caused insane-o battery drain when active.

Also to note, previously using the stock kernel full "reset" using the rooting method's PC36IMG.zip to reset it worked after the Dalvik cache wipe to get battery drain normal when idle. The active though, haven't been able to "fix". Maybe I had decent battery life because I underclocked the processor?

Heya Grand,

I have yet to reroot my phone because of the battery issue. I have another post I have yet to update but essentially the same issue. I think you tried to get mods to link our posts.

I had to unroot my phone to get it worked on at the sprint store. Since unrooting and going back to stock I am inline with "normal" battery drain, I can get about 12 hours with moderate usage. I am curious about rerooting my phone and seeing if the same issue arises. It just takes so much time to get it the way I like again!! I will update when rooted again, prolly sometime this week.

Unroot = S-on + stock rom? Cool. When they worked on your phone, did they find anything? Replace the battery? Etc...?

Well before I unrooted I was getting every high drain (see pic) In 1 hr 25% drain, as you can see with a couple spikes to 100% usage and cpu.

Since unrooting, I am now getting 1% per hour drain idle. and maybe 5-10% under moderate usage...

My stats are a little skewed because I work in a hospital radiology dept and I get no signal in some places due to the lead walls. But at home I get about 5-8% i'd say.

Woah... By the way is that System Monitor Paid version?

Looks like this weekend is the weekend of unrooting :) Or maybe tonight.
