Root UD 8.0 vs BB 0.5 ding ding ding

I really don't think it's a fair comparison. They're both great, but Pete's is more bare bones built for more speed and stability. I flash a different rom at least once a day and I like the ones with more customization. I didn't see a way to change the clock color on his and that's important when putting some themes on and you need to get rid of the black clock. But, you really can't go wrong either way.

If I'm not mistaken, Insanne or w/e his name is posted the UD 8 rom on the second of this month in the Roms subforum so i dont think that it is that old. Regarding UD 9, I never heard of it being in the works already.

From Ultimate Droid's FB page last Thursday Night:
Just giving you guys an update. UD FeX 9.0 is complete, but I haven't released it yet since I have been "a little under the weather" and wouldn't be able to provide any support if needed. However, I would like to give you guys a look at a few things that I have been up to. :) Introducing the new Ultimate Droid Tracker. The New UD Tracker is a wiki/bug tracking system/development tracker. This a place where you can go to report bugs, request features, get small fixes before a full update, and check on development on a daily basis. It can be found at BlackdroidMod Bug Tracker or by clicking the "UD Tracker" link from blackdroidmod.com. I will be returning tomorrow, full force, with the rom and a few other goodies in hand. In the meantime let me know what you think. :)

What can you say....here's the proof. As for BB, I use to be a died hard BB fan, but now I prefer ROMs from source. I personally don't know how to build one from source, but hey the customization it comes with is definitely something that has me spoiled.

So I know that this is a bit off topic but does anyone else notice that there is no real answer to a which Rom is better since different people want completely different things and the fact that peoples phones end up running differently. Not saying I don't enjoy and get a lot out of reading the posts that compare the different Roms just asking.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but UD is not built from source, but based off of FRG22D, as it even says in the build under About Phone.

I have used about all of the roms on my droid, release after release. Pete's Bugless roms are always a solid offering, but lately I think many of the other roms have included features that give them the edge. Chevy, jrummy, liquid, and Blackdroid have all release some very capable and customizable roms.

Have settled into UD8 for several weeks now as my primary rom. Using Slayers 1.2 kernal with compcache enabled. My Droid has never run smoother. Tried BB.5, but just couldn't find a convincing reason to stay with it over UD8.

There is my 2 cents. You really can't go wrong with any I mentioned. Find what works best on your Droid, because they don't always get the same results.

Now I have yet to try UD 8 (especially since 9 is on its way) but I have been running BB v.05 since Pete released it. Ran Cynogenmod before that, was definitely ready for a change.

I have tried UD in the past and I have to say that BB is not nearly as customizable. UD gives you the ability to change so many features to the way you like, even done to some core features (the old school lock screen looks great). I've never had a ROM that gave me so much control.

BB is a different type of mod. As much as the customization is great, at the end of the day I need my phone to work and work fast. BB, especially v.05, is very fast and runs smoother than any ROM I've ever used. This is what I want from a ROM, customization comes secondary, so that's why I picked BB over UD.

This is not to say that you should pick BB, its a different type of ROM and works well with those of us who want to run a fast and stable ROM. If you want customization to the max, while also giving up a little speed or a few bugs here and there, then go for UD. If you want a nice stock alternative that runs smooth and fast, go with BB (the themeing community is great, thanks Benny!).

My suggestion: try them both, decide which one you like, don't let us tell you.

Ultimate Droid 8 is far above any other rom I've had on my Droid. This includes CM, BB 0.5, etc. Its just perfect. Don't know what else to say. It has all the extras I wanted like lock screen controls for music, great theme/apps (LOVE the music player!), decent performance, battery life, etc. I have absolutely no desire to change to any other rom now. This is sweet with a capital S!

on my phone ud8 is faster than bb and is super stable. i have yet to get one force close. the battery life is awesome as well. i have tried bb v0.5 with and without set cpu and ud8 outlasts it both ways. liquid 1.7 is a close second speed wise but battery life was BAD for me!

edit: i changed my governor to on demand with liquid 1.7. battery life is better now seemingly. i will monitor this tomorrow.

Psst dig, BB is better on my phone.. ud didn't outlast it.

U got lucky with ud on your phone, like I got lucky with BB on mine...

Don't make generalizations... there are some peeps that are impressionabe before trying THEMSELVES.

hence the reason i stated the words "on my phone" and "for me";)

certainly when it comes to roms experiences will vary.

however, im not making generalizations i stated MY experiences with these two roms. which is kinda what this thread is about.

I thought dig did a good job of emphasizing about *his* experience on *his* droid. He ran both OSs which were the topic at hand and posted his results. Did he need a legal disclaimer to go on the top of that?

like many others, i have been swapping roms constantly to find one i really like. i started out with bb 4, then went to bb 5. just a few days ago i flashed UD8, and the new Miui Rom.

Miui is awesome ! the flexibility is truly heads above the rest. but since its still in development i decided to drop it for now. i simply couldnt handle the force close's and laggyness.

UD8 has more customizable options then the rest and worked good on my phone. however, battery life on UD and Miui was not good for me. i unplug at 6am and by noon i was down to 40%.

so, when the dust cleared, i found myself back on petes bb5. battery life is fantastic, lasts me all day, till around 11pm. like other posters said, its clean, smooth, fast and it works. no force closes, no bugs, no issues. IT SIMPLY WORKS.
