Trillian IM Client

There's a setting in Trillian that will send you an email when you are 'inactive' and get a message. I think 'inactive' means not having the application in the foreground.

I mean, it's better than AIM or stuff running constantly and eating up your battery, but froyo DOES support push notifications.

no you are not. Your phone may sleep, but it's set to wake and poll at certain intervals, that's the only way it would get messages.

why is no one giving any detailed info about this app. We all know about trillian for PC, but this isn't about trillian for PC.

I should clarify. I know it polls. But with Ebuddy, my phone does not sleep, at all until I logout (even with the reduced battery consumption option turned on). I don't mind the fact it periodically awakens, it is better than 100% awake. Push would be optimum though.

ok so I tried this, and it apparently runs in the background but it doesn't put an icon in the notification area, which sucks. Using the home button or clicking the app link simply doesn't cut it for an IM app.

maybe when we get past step 1 in app design I'll move to step 2. I happen to find ebuddy to be pretty good, so maybe I'll try again when this thing is fleshed out.

Bump.

Just wanted to remind everyone that this app is out there. It's not on the market yet, but it is hands down the best chat client out there. I use it all the time. I'm signed into Facebook chat 24/7 with literally NO ill effects on my battery. If you are not using it and you like to use FB chat or other chat what are you waiting for?

I don't get why people have problems with Meebo, it's has NEVER failed me, and I'm sometimes on it for hours, including the facebook part. I've actually had a meebo account for years on the PC, with all my IM's already linked to it, maybe that helps..

My only problem with Meebo is it's battery consumption. With Trillian there is no noticeable difference and it runs in the background constantly.

I'll agree with that, I kinda have to use meebo though since I have a meebo account and talk to friends with meebo screen names, I was mostly talking about comments I read in the comments in the app store itself, facebook not working, force closing, etc.. I've NEVER had a problem, but hey, I know there's exceptions to every rule, and I do think having an account to begin with helped.

eBuddy = sucks
IM+ = sucks
Trillian = sucks a little less

don't get me wrong, it's the best I've found so far, but why can't I find one damn IM app that lets me pick my notification sound? More importantly, none so far offer a "reminder" option!
Woah Mr. Negative. They don't all suck. In fact, eBuddy and Trillian both work pretty good. If you want options that they don't have why don't you send an email to the developers to suggest them?

Just an FYI for those that were wanting it, there is an option to choose your notification sound in the settings.

I've had it running all day and my battery life hasn't changed from the 16+ hours I get normally. Definitely much better than Meebo. But I agree with a previous poster that if facebook could join gChat I'd be in heaven.

I like Trillian, but I do wonder why Gmail warned me that my account was accessed from an unknown IP, and it led to Trillian. Here is the report. Is this normal? I did wonder about allowing an app access to my gmail account log in and password (I really wish Google would allow a separate password for Gtalk).
