After having the update in my phone for a few days, I have noticed a definite improvement, but it is still annoyingly slow and sometimes inaccurate. I use several apps that are location based, and if I get a lock, it lasts for a second and goes away.

Overall, I'm unhappy with the "fix". I am just trying to remain optimistic. Everyone seems very certain that it's software based and not hardware based.

I like it a LOT more than the i-phone. My wife is an iphone user, and even she likes some of the features of my phone more. All in all, still a groovy phone, and I'm thrilled with it. The gps is annoying, but it hasn't failed me at a critical time. Just slowed me down.

My GPS was worse following the OTA update.

However, since installing the leaked Froyo build that came out a couple days ago my GPS has been rock solid. Been occasionally checking it every once in a while when I'm out and about and I get a pretty quick lock (no longer than 20 seconds or so) and very accurate compared to before (average has been within 10-20 meters).

What few reserves I had about the phone before have been completely wiped away now that the GPS is appears to be fully operational.

What Kind of Accuracy is everyone getting? After the update mine does finally go down to 16.4 ft (5m), but jumps to about 32.8 ft occasionally, and hence many of my re-routes and other issues. So far the best accuracy is the 5m, the N1 and G1 consistently get down to 2m quickly. If anyone has gotten lower than 5m, please post back (or post back regardless) as I am trying to compile data to send to Samsung for troubleshooting the issue...

This is not the thread for that. Please don't derail threads.

Your question goes in this thread:

Only reason this thread is separate is for the poll, so the only discussion that's on-topic is specifically related to the poll. Anything else goes into the catch-all thread.

Thanks.

Sorry, I was not trying to derail a thread, I was trying to estimate the continuance of GPS issues after the update as per the poll, as I see the accuracy as at least the partial root of the issue and therefore the rubric by which responders should be evaluating their GPS functionality post update. Perhaps I wasn't clear on that point, or perhaps my logic seems faulty, but to objectively state something like an improvement or devolution, one must have clear and measurable guidelines- something we scientists call quantification... That is all I was trying to do, but clearly that would derail things :-/

After some changes my Captivate GPS worked solidly for around 8 or 9 days then suddenly stopped locking onto satellites again so who knows?

Seems like every time I tinker around with the GPS settings it comes back to life for a while then dies out again.

Which is exactly what has been posted for months now. These "settings" do not "fix" GPS. GPS does not require such "settings" and a working GPS would work perfectly without any such settings to begin with.

We're long past the point where people should be worrying, fussing and posting about these snakeoil settings. The problem (and ultimate solution) has absolutely nothing to do with them.
