I bought xperia x10 last week and since then i've been trying to download some apps and/or games but i never sucseeded. i connected with usb on the pc, i downloaded the sony ericson pc companion i tried to install appbrain on the phone i selected sync on te settings.... But i never managed to sync the phone with the pc so i can install directly from the internet or to download some apps.
Can someone pls tell me step by step what i am supposed to do???

When you plug your x10 into your computer you will get a notification in the top left of your phone screen. pull this notification down so you can read it. and follow instructions it will say something like mount usb so mount the usb and follow instructions after you have done that on your computer you should get an popup saying something like install software so install the software on your computer ... If for some reason this is not working click this link Sony Ericsson - Support - Softwaredownloads - Xperia? X10

and download the software manually.... hope this helps

I am in a similar situation but for a different reason. Assuming it can be done judging by the responses above:

I am trying to avoid repeatedly having to restore my contacts from a backup as they get wiped out pretty much daily. Google and SE sync might be the reason: that I set accounts up for the purpose of accessing Market, but I suspect that is the reason I am constantly losing my contacts.

I am trying to use "Market" or get access to install about a dozen favourite apps only, but I cannot access Market without going through setting up a google account. Is there a way to do this without doing that?
Since I do not care to use Gmail anyway, is there a better or equivalent app that provides the same services without having to sign up for another useless email account that I'll never use?

Conditions:

I have just re-installed the base software using update service.

I want to access the web only through wi-fi.

I do not want a gmail account.

Sony Ericsson sync is useless as it has a hard time logging in to the account, and often does not sync properly anyway.

I do not have a data plan through my carrier nor do I want to do so for $40 a month- bloody insane. I have access to wi-fi pretty much everywhere I go on a daily basis for free!

I do not have or want Facebook anything/twitter anything/or any other spying and social networking facilitators. I enjoy and treasure my privacy and couldn't be bothered updating my latest whereabouts and whineabouts/haven't got the slightest interest or desire to follow anybody else either...I'm not self centered- I just couldn't give a crap about anybody else's movements and life problems as I have enough to worry about with my own. It's a life philosophy: we should all be more interested in fixing our own issues before nosing around other people's.

The directions on the G1 linked site I am thinking are not for what I am needing- to get apps to the phone yes, but getting an actual installer installed on the phone to install side loaded apps, or apps downloaded to the phone using an alternate "Market" app, or just plain google web without signing up for GMAIL.

Is it possible to accomplish what I'm seeking considering the conditions?

I bought the X10 as a MEDIA phone as opposed to a SOCIAL NETWORKING phone.
