First Droid Eris update makes the slow OTA rollout starting tonight

Just an FYI, i don't currently have the update but my lock screen does NOT work until i get my finger on the transparent bar directly above the grey bar or the gray bar itself or below the gray bar, it has always been this way, this is my 3rd Eris and all unlocked this way.
But you can start swiping at the top of the screen and CROSS the gray bar. Evidently, after the update, your swipe must START at or below the gray bar.

I'm in Pittsburgh as well, no updates me for. :(

Me too (Pittsburgh) - Nothing. I purchased on 1st day available, 11/6 - not sure if that makes a difference or not. Probably randomly generated. Why cant I do this manually myself instead of waiting for an OTA update?

I did a *228, 2 to see if it would pull the update to the phone - no bueno.

i too am impressed with their care.....honestly.

with handcent, it auto resizes any picture to send without fiddling with settings.

I can't seem to find the setting to downsize the picture automatically in Handcent. Is this a standard thing it just does?

I have also turned off auto retrieve on my native message app along with the notifications. Is there nothing else I have to do to prevent the native message service to keep it from keeping my phone awake?

I never got a prompt for update, any suggestions?

wait till you get one.

i think it is automatic but it should give a prompt

i think you should be good, i would send a message from your contact list, a popup will open asking what to use, select handcent as always default. might also reboot your phone too just to make sure you are good to go.

Never got that prompt. I installed, rebooted, turned off notifications on native app, sent a test message and no prompt. I am however sending and receiving just fine.

I'll wait and see how it's going for you guys before I update. I'm not having any problems with my phone yet and don't want to start.

The only problem I have is the resources to use bluetooth/bluetooth stereo. This kills my phone. Other than that, no problems from the list they gave for updates.

I would rather see more Tweaks to the OS to improve battery and caching and making the processor more efficient and bluetooth memory leak issue. Maybe asking too much.

"Droid Eris is getting an update to a newer version of Android early next year. Google Navigation support is coming your way ;)" - HTC Tweet

Well that's good news. Next year we's gonna have ourselves NAV!

Verizon's spokesperson has since added:

"The Droid Eris currently using Android 1.5, can and will be upgraded to newer a Android operating system software in first quarter 2010. The enhancement will allow customers to continue to enjoy the powerful HTC Sense experience while also gaining the additional benefits of Google Maps Navigation."

When asked to clarify exactly which version of Android the Droid Eris will get, Raney explained that, based on the timing, the Droid Eris will be updated to either Android 2.0 or 2.1.

Sweet. I tweeted HTC with a few questions and hopefully they'll answer them. I wanted to know if the Bluetooth memory leak was being fixed. Also, from a previous thread about SD memory, I wanted to squash the assumption the Eris cannot handle 32GB SD memory. It's currently maxed at 16GB but I'm certain with updates this can be fixed.

I just turn off Network Connect when I am at home. Now it lasts 3-4 days before having to be recharged.

If you turn network mobile off/ 3G you won't receive any calls or texts, it will just direct calls straight to voicemail and all texts that are sent to you while having mobile network off, will never come!!!

Id keep mobile network on at all times, unless you want a useless phone...?

I just tried it with my phone and my dad's phone and calls go through just fine with Mobile turned off.
