EVO availability for sprint employees and advantage club

I'm torn as to when I think the Evo might be available. On one hand its a great sign that its been in stock and available online for both sprint and best buy for some time now, thats a great sign. We are also getting a lot of people claiming release dates at the end of the month that coincide with the timing sprint was eluding to last month.

On the other hand, if you look at all the people who are claiming specific dates, they are all new account names with less than 10 posts and then they seem to vanish (could be legit, but could also be people pulling our chain). I also asked my sponsor and he asked one of the VPs after a meeting when he thought it would be available... The VP talked about the letter last month stating that it could be out by the end of October, but added "he wouldnt be surprised if it got pushed back even further". This was about 2 weeks ago so his view could have changed by now.

Who to believe?

Yeh I think we all just wanna beieve these people. But continuing on your first point, earlier release dates for the Evo were pushed back for atleast for a legit reason, shortage on inventory. Now its looks like the inventory is been steady for awhile now( basing that the EVO has been available on Sprint.com for a month now). I'm holding on to that sign of good news

I haven't vanished. Like you, I'm patiently waiting for a confirmed release date so that I can finally get my hands on an EVO. I've been patiently waiting for the Supersonic since I first read about it early this year and said to myself, "If Sprint eventually carries that smartphone, it's mine!"

I don't think anyone knows for certain the date that employees and SWAC can purchase the EVO. The information I've provided to date has either been given to me by credible sources at Sprint, e.g., my neighbor who works in product development, or is my best guess, e.g., next Thursday's QEM being the perfect time to announce good news. I don't listen to just anyone from Sprint who claims to be in the know: I suspect only a handful of people, including Dan Hesse, know the targeted released date and said date has likely been postponed time and again until Sprint can meet demand for the EVO. (It's not a secret that Hesse hates information leaks: look to the firing of the employee who leaked inaccurate EVO sales data in June for an example of this "close to the vest" mentality.)

Here's my take on the situation

  • Sprint seems to now have adequate inventory: the Sprint website hasn't displayed an "out of stock" notification for a month and most of the Sprint retail stores, as well as Best Buy and Radio Shack stores, seem to have sufficient inventory to meet demand.
  • In early October, I heard from a source that Sprint was starting to offer discounts on EVO purchases to corporate accounts, i.e., large companies that use Sprint exclusively for wireless service. Why offer a discount on a commodity if demand is not yet satisfied? This is yet one more example that supply has been keeping pace with demand.
  • While Sprint could simply announce "Hey, the EVO is available to employees," doing so would seem like a missed opportunity to me. Couldn't Hesse position the EVO's release as a reward for everyone's hard work and encouragement that the company's future is bright?
  • If Sprint waits much longer, those of us who have been patiently waiting for the EVO may decide to wait a bit longer for the next Android superphone. Delaying the release any longer could result in another missed opportunity: selling thousands of the company's flagship device to Sprint's most ardent supporters, its own employees.

Now that I've said all of this, I still don't know a firm release date. Until I hear differently, I'm waiting with bated breath for next Thursday. If Thursday comes and goes with little or no news, I'll be more disappointed than anyone.

FWIW, my three-year-old HTC Titan (Sprint Mogul) is falling apart. It's been a spectacular phone with some third-party software and a few registry tweaks but it's on its last legs. I need a new phone. Per my earlier remarks, I've been waiting for the EVO since it was known only as the Supersonic and before anyone knew that its was destined for Sprint. I'm not sure how much longer I can wait for the good news that we can purchase an EVO.

You made me log back in haha. No im not just pulling your chain; what would I get out of that. For specific reasons, I can't say too much. But the 25th is the current launch date. However there was a meeting on monday to push it to further in the week. But as it stands now, it is the 25th. I can't reveal why for obvious reasons. Believe what you will, I just saw a massive thread, figured I'd try to answer everyone's question.

Im not here pulling anyones chain either. I'm patiently waiting for 2 evos myself.
My sprint SWAC rep was told the 27th at some big meeting he was at last weekend.
However, take it with a grain of salt i guess.

Again, Sprint is due to report quarterly earning to Wall Street on Wednesday, October 27, at 8:00 a.m ET. Sprint's next quarterly employee meeting (QEM) is scheduled for Thursday, October 28. QEM is almost always led by Dan Hesse and involves just about every employee at the company. (The auditorium only holds a couple hundred people but those who cannot attend in person typically tune in via webcast.)

My hope is that Sprint has good news for shareholders on Wednesday buoyed by good news for employees (and SWAC!) on Thursday.

For what obvious reasons? We dont know who you are. How many people know what you know? Prolly 50 to 100 that are sworn to not say anything... it wont hurt for you to say why you know what you know as long as you dont say your name, position and the location that you work... Jeez im startin to think you are pullin our chain!

This man is well informed. However they were wanting to go into the meeting with a good note, SWAC availability. This is what they are going back on, when to relay the SWAC news. At or before the meeting.

From the outside looking in, I agree that this would be an excellent opportunity to open the device to the employee/SWAC masses. Better if they can open up the EVO and the EPIC.

I agree and this is what two different reliable sources have told me: both the Epic and the EVO are to be made available to employees and SWAC next week. The hope (obviously) is that demand for both devices will be balanced, thus preventing new shortages of either device.

My fingers are crossed.

Can anyone tell me what happens if your sponsor leaves sprint? I have been waiting for the Evo and now that its almost available I have found out my friend is leaving sprint in the next few months. Once he leaves do I have to sign a 2yr contract? If I don't sign a contract is there an ETF?

He can call employee care and have your account notated so you can port out or have your plan changed, also there is a website where he can go and complete a separation form were he can request to have your account changed to your name as well as changed to either a SERO Premium or Everything Plus account. I just did this we a few friends and relatives and it took about 5 days for all accounts to get changed to SERO Premium accounts. When it comes to the contract and ETF I am not sure but as far as I remember there isn't one till you upgrade your device --- I could be wrong but I don't think so :)

Thanks for the response. So if I am currently not on SWAC but will be hopefully next week would the purchase of the EVO qualify a the upgrade you mention, possibly locking me in with an ETF? I would prefer going the SERO premium route but just want to know my options. Thanks

As far as I know if you are not on a SWAC you will have a contract once you upgrade.
