Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

Hey guys. I'm new to the whole rooting scene (I've only done PSPs and iPhones/iPods before this, and this is WAY more in depth). I just have a few questions before I dive right into this.

1. Is the the best vanilla experience there is? I've seen a few themes and two ROMs (including this one).

2. If the overclock doesn't take, is there a way to disable it without having to SBF? I'm on a mac, so I would need to find a Windows computer to fix my phone.

3. I downloaded RSDlite and the SBF- to clarify, the SBF file is ~500mb, correct?

4. Is there a bug list and an included app list anywhere? Are some of the proprietary apps, like Backup Assistant, included?

Over all I would like to know whether there are crippling bugs in here that would force be to SBF and re-root. I'm simply looking for a vanilla experience, whether it's a theme or ROM.

Thanks a bunch!

2. Go into terminal emulator and type
su
overclock -lv
overclock -on

3. It should be 434 mb

I'm loving this rom my phone has never been this smooth and fast, I only have one question I thought I read before I installed this that you can still add contacts and pics from facebook to your contact list but I can't seem to do this.
there is an app in the market called syncmypix and it works great to pull photos from fb for your contacts
also in order to sync your fb contacts you will have to add the fb account to your x......menu>settings>accounts>add acount>fb

I'm not exactly sure either...have you tried restoring BlurSNMessaging.apk?

Unfortunately, yes. I've tried restoring everything that would make sense to restore. I went back to my nand backup that I created just after deodexing the 2.2 OTA and copied /system to a network drive. Then I restored back to ApeX V1 and did the same. I've been using Scooter Software's "Beyond Compare" to look at the differences between the two, which has potentially saved a bunch of wasted time. However, I don't feel like I'm any closer to getting it figured out.

Here's a thread with some of my progress:

I am very interested in your findings! I have tried just about everything to get NewsWidget.apk working... The odd part is it installs and will open as an app but if I try and add the widget, nothing ever shows up (just blank screen)

I took the plunge and this ROM is amazing. I'm thinking about themeing it as well since I love the nextheme so much.

I do have one question... How do I add shortcuts to the car dock in this rom? On the original one it was easy to do by just clicking the blank shortcut area and picking a new application. I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere but I can't for the life of me find it.

question for you all....has anyone tried reinstalling the weatherwidget.apk from the blur apps for the multimedia dock? It reinstalled fine for me, shows up under widgets and I can add my city, but when I click done it doesn't load on the multimedia dock. can't figure out why for the life of me...

I'm assuming it's dependent on something else, but I can't figure out what.

I am surprised so many people are installing this ROM knowing it is BLUR free and they want to reinstall BLUR. I just don't get it.

Because while most of Blur is garbage, some of it is useful to each person for different reasons...

To the point of your question, I installed this ROM because I love everything about it... EXCEPT that I can't have my Blur News Widget...

Blur is not the devil.... Some of it is useful IMHO....

That's the beauty of Android, root, themes, and ROM's... Customization... If you hate Blur, more power to ya... I have no need for 90% of it, but I do LOVE the Blur News Widget....

Any chance I could get someone to email me or link me to these files. Mine's doing the same as Ted's with just the BackupAssistanceClient.apk...force closes immediately, so I'm thinking I need android-syncservice-app.apk

My google backup didn't work for my phone contacts (I think I turned something off or deleted them at some point), I'm at work, and downloading the entire SBF can't happen here.

I got backup assistant back on, got my missing contacts and the phone started random reboots. Uninstalled backup assistant with Ti backup, still have my contacts, and no more reboots. Don't know why, don't really care...I've got what I need.:D

Oh no, I just tried this and sure enough, it force closes, is there an app that can be used for panoramic shots?

it is tied to other blur elements in the system and if they are not there the camera will crash on panoramic.

Actually, I installed a blurcamera.apk I had lying around and it works fine. I forgot where I got this apk but you might try the one from the zip in the second post of this thread. If not I can upload my copy later. It's the one with the fugly camera icon :)

This is by far my favorite ROM, Throw the NexTheme on it and its just awesome! Thanks!

However, I do have a questions. Which apks do I need to sync with yahoo mail? I have 5 different yahoo accounts that I receive email from regularly and its kinda a pain signing in and out of accounts. I use to use the "universal inbox" feature of the messaging app to check all my accounts at once. So my question is, which apks do I need to get back to syncing and checking multiple yahoo accounts?

Thanks for the help...

Hey guys, I can't seem to get this ROM installed.

When I try it just hangs at "Installing.." forever.

I tried through bootstrapping the recovery and using clockwork AND through ROM manager. I wiped DATA and CACHE both ways.

I'm on the OTA 2.2, NOT deodexed. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks.

EDIT: I figured it out. When I downloaded it originally, Safari said it was a "safe" file and unzipped it. Then, when I re-zipped it, it wouldn't load. I turned it off and then downloaded it again. It installed and it's booting up now. We'll see :)
