Root D1-MIUI for your Droid (formerly Zen-MIUI)

I'm having trouble with this ROM. I just installed it, and I must say I am very impressed. I really like the look of the ROM and I'm hoping it's stable enough to not freeze every other day (unfortunately that's why I decided I had to switch from BB 0.5). But any time I try to delete an app from one of the homescreens it says system application. unable to remove. Does this mean I can't remove items from the homescreen without uninstalling it? I noticed there doesn't seem to be an app drawer, or maybe I'm just missing it. My other *BIG* problem is that I cannot download apps from the Market. Any time I try to DL an app it says "Sorry, there's not enough space to install this item."

Correct, you cannot remove items from the homescreen without uninstalling them. There is no app drawer on Miui. If you don't want to see certain apps on your homescreen, create a folder for them and place them all in that folder. For this purpose I have a folder named "Clutter".

You can use LauncherPro with this ROM if you prefer the old home screen set-up w/ App drawer.

I don't know what to tell you about the Market issue, I didn't have a problem. Make sure you perform a full wipe before installing this ROM, and make sure you're on the latest version of Miui (v5 as of today).

I had some battery issues last night with the stock kernel, but I was also in a concrete building for 3 hours. My battery went from 100% to dead in 4 hours with minimal use. The ROM could still be settling in since I just installed it yesterday, but if not, I'd really like to look at some different options to get better battery performance.

This doesn't sound like an issue with the ROM/Kernel. If you don't have a signal, your phone will endlessly search for one, which drains battery like nobody's business. If you go into Settings > Battery > Battery Use to see what's been using your battery, this falls under the "Cell Standby" category. It's not unusual for this to drain a fully charged battery in a matter of mere hours.

If you are ever somewhere where you know you don't get a signal, I recommend putting your phone in airplane mode to keep your phone from searching for a signal.

Also, it couldn't hurt to dial *228+ and reprogram your phone through Verizon. On Miui you have to dial the + at the end or you will get a force close, you get the + by long-pressing the 0 button.

Okay, well that is fine, I don't really mind having all of my icons on the homescreen, I really like the look of the icons so I will probably stick to the MIUI launcher rather than get Launcher Pro (though I'm glad I have the option). By the way, how does MIUI decide icons for an app? Does it simply take the apps icon and put that circular shape around it for any app you download?

I suppose I should try to reinstall MIUI fresh again if no one else has this problem. I assume Titanium Backup will work to restore all my data on this ROM?

Great info... I will look into this further!

Good questions. If you use LauncherPro with Miui it does retain the icons, though they appear smaller.

I'm not exactly sure how Miui changes all the icons, but I like it.

To restore apps I use AppBrain. This syncs your apps with the web. You will have to re-download them all from the market, but appbrain just pops up all the install pages so it doesn't take that long.

I backup bookmarks, SMS, dictionary, etc using MyBackup.

Actually, I read in the linked thread (or maybe it was this one, I can't recall) that you don't want to use TiBu because it'll cause framework errors and force closes. I used it to restore only user apps and then individually selected which ones to restore data to (Cardio Trainer and games, mostly) and I haven't had any issues. I think the important thing is not to restore system apps/data with Titanium Backup.

Only icon I noticed that I don't like is the Gmail one, but it doesn't matter. I'd rather have a uniform homescreen than all the stupid random icons ppl put for their apps lol. It annoys me to see a messy homescreen, and I usually end up wasting a bunch of time making my own icons via bettercut, but I'd rather just have MIUI make my icons look nice :) It'd be nice if Google really improved the look of icons in Gingerbread, but we'll see o_O I've no idea how to use AppBrain, I'm confused :/ But I just DL MyBackup so I guess I'll be able to save my important things!

In other words, I can use TiBU for user apps, as long as I don't restore system apps or data? Well that's fine by me, I think MyBackup has me covered for any data I might need restored. As long as I can restore my user apps I'm good. But, does anyone know if MIUI has the latest version of the Clock app and the Voice Search app? I really hope so, these updates are necessary to set alarms by voice, and I had to manually install them on BB and UD. Maybe MIUI will let me get away with installing the new clock and voice apps without giving me framework errors :)

I'm having a problem I haven't seen mentioned anywhere. My girlfriend has a Samsung Rogue and the video files she records on her phone and sends me have always played, no matter what ROM I'm using, but since flashing MIUI, only about half of them play now, and nothing she's sent me recently. Any thoughts?

Disregard this problem - for whatever reason, I got up yesterday and all my video files were playing fine. Weird.

New problem - I use my phone as an alarm clock and for whatever reason this morning, the alarm went off, but the sound was not coming out at all. Playing other sounds works fine, the phone is not on silent, and this is the first morning it happened. I'm going to flash 5.1 and see if that improves things.

I will say that my battery life has improved DRAMATICALLY with this rom. With BB 0.4, Pete's FRG22D, and BB 0.5, with my regular use and taking the phone out of the charger at 6 am, I would regularly be at 20-30% by 6 pm. My first day using MIUI, I was at 40% at 6 pm, and then yesterday, day 2, I was at 70%. That's amazing to me, and I love the clean lines and brighter look of this ROM.

The devs and the home of this rom are over at droidforums.net. As far as changes from 5 to 5.1 they are minor but I did notice a slight speed/smoothness increase after loading 5.1. I don't run/use benchmarks so who knows. But here is a quote from metiCkOne as far as changes and issues still outstanding.
V5.1 is up, changelog will come soon

- fixed haptic feedback so it's not so aggressive
- removed boot animation
- replaced account and sync app, still working on getting fb contacts to sync
- added wallpapers to launcher

D1-MIUI-0.10.22-v5.1.zip - d1-miui - D1-MIUI-0.10.22-V5.1 Flash after a full wipe of data and cache - Project Hosting on Google Code

I'm currently working on fixing the issues with rom manager not working and the facebook contact sync issues as well. If you flash this rom over one that has working fb contact sync, it will theoretically allow you to have contact pics on this rom but it may screw other things up.

I flashed 6.1 this morning, but it seems to have an issue connecting to wi-fi. Is anyone else having this issue? It continuously loops through... Scanning... Obtaining IP... Connecting... Disconnected.

I didn't have any issue with Wifi. I did have an issue with network locations, which tight now apparently only work with wifi off.

Did you try forgetting the network and reconnecting and re-typing the password? I've had problems connecting to my wifi network when I swore I typed the right password, but it worked the second time I tried it. It's worth a shot.

After reading through the posts a droidforums.net it looks like there are some problems with 6.1 as well. If you're not a tweaker that likes to mess with and troubleshoot your phone/OS that you just flashed I would hold off on loading v6.1. It appears there are many having fc issues and network issues that are being looked into. Yes, IMO this rom is still buggy but man is it visually sweet looking and again...when working right...this rom looks and does things like no other rom out there right now.

Follow the thread in the link above but I would hold off flashing until 6.2 (or later) comes out. And even then read the thread and posted results first before you go flashing away. It's back to 5.1 for me until 6.x is fully fixed. Now...where is that official (non-Halloween themed) LFY 1.8 for me to play with until the Miui issues are fixed. :p

It's hard to promote this ROM when such buggy versions are being pushed. I wish the guys would bring in a few alpha testers before they sent out these updates (which are all beta ROMs as is).

I'm not going to flash v6.2 for a few hours after it comes out (momentarily) until I see what bugs others are reporting. I couldn't even use v5.1 because whenever I would change the desktop wallpaper it would reset itself every time I rebooted, so I'm back on v5.

For the record, EVERY single release done by MetiCkOne has been unusable for me, where as every single release done by Zenulator has been perfect. This is just an observation, but in my case it's been true every time. I feel bad pointing it out since MetiCkOne works so hard for Team Miui, but I can never seem to use his versions.

its pretty cool, but the only problem is i lost all my notification sounds?!?

in the future this will be cool. no widgets suck... but somebody will make an adaptation of this and something!

It's easy enough to add ringtones / notification sounds, just pull them from the ROM of your choice. It's true that this ROM is lacking in the ringtones department, but that was done intentionally to save space. I added all of the extra ones I wanted into the .zip before I flashed it to simplify things.

No widgets? What do you mean no widgets? Long press home screen to go into editing mode and you can add whatever widgets you like.
