How To Put Videos on Droid

There really should be a video player built into the phone. That is a bit odd, really.

Video Player? I think a great app would be a video recorder for the Droid. It already has the Led Light and the 5 megapixel camera.

Think about it, Droid could be the first Video camera Phone.

The Best thing about the Driod is that it's OPEN SOURCE

If anyone finds a good video recorder app let me know k?

attempting a convert of N*w M**n with handbrake. First attempt at a convert.

VERY tired, dont have much time to read all 7 pages of comments here after reading a pile of forum listings already on video playback.

1- i just wanna play AVIs on my phone. My last 3 phones all played avis but i had to get progs for each

2- price isn't an object so even if someone knows a $20 app that plays avis perfectly, pls post it here as it's easier for me to just get an update that someone knows of one and all I have to do is download it and not convert everything

converting Moon now 2 gig avi = 1 hour conversion, gonna have to wait to put it back on phone when i wake up tonight to get ready for work. hoping to watch something other than utube all night once again, or i'm gonna have to take one of my other phones in with me and enjoy it on that

Sorry to burst your hopes, but I don't think Android has the capability of playing Avi's. I hope devices become so advance that it can play any media format at any size the computer can play without converting. it'd save sooo much time lol

However the Droid is fully capable of playing mp4 files and does this very nicely. I have several movies on my phone. if you are finding the SD size a little cramped then you can replace the 16 gig with a 32 gig SD Card. The movies play very smoothly.

There is a video recorder. Click on the camera and look to your right when holding it in landscape mode. There should be a little sidebar with a camera image on bottom and a video camera on top. Slide the little bar up and it will become a video camera....

There ya go....
Ben

P.S. - Try recording a video in negative color effect. Some trippy stuff right there..

I didn't read the entire thread, just ended up here looking for info on the Droids player/non-player.
If you want to convert your own vids for the phone, try a very trustworthy software called "CuCusoft"
Simply move it to your SD card and play it direct. You will need a 'file manager' program!! Going through the 'gallery' doesn't work.

Roughly 350mb / per hour of vid. High Quality picture and sound.
Thanks for all the other good info here.

Actually, that is not true. The Droid IS capable of playing AVI (Xvid/Divx). YXFlash CAN play AVI's. I tested one myself. Very early in development though.

First time I tried it, I was using an Eris. Video was VERY choppy and out of sync...I decided for the hell of it, I would try again with my Droid...

First attempt was animation.

Xvid - Came out perfect using YXFlash. Did not fill as much of the screen as the converted MP4, but still looked clean.

MP4 - Looked the same as the xvid, but filled more of the screen.

Second attempt (Xvid only, TV Show (video, non-animation))

Very clean, but ever so slightly out of sync (I notice because I look for it, but it would not bother me...Can't be more than a few milliseconds)

To sum up either
1) They have optimized it alot since I used it on my Eris, or
2) The Droids hardware really is that much better

It is kinda pricey for an app though...$19.90. They are currently running a special for 30% off, so I might just break down buy it. It was $29.99 when I downloaded the trial on the Eris...

**EDIT** Just an FYI, the demo version only plays 2 minutes of video.

You make a folder called music for your music, and so far no one really knows how to get movies working.

Video plays using the gallery. Took me two tries. When I tried the first time to play a video, got a blank screen; plugged the usb cable in; it played; removed the usb cable, it still played. Go figure (although it wasn't full screen.) All that screen resolution, and I can get it to go full screen. Most likely I need another application to play what used to be std avi's. dr

What I did:
I have a bunch (zillion) videos that I used to just play on my Palm 700p; they are all avi(s).
1) I downloaded and installed on my xp desktop, Motorola Media Link.
2) Then dragged my avi to the videos tab on Motorola Media Link and it took overnight to do a "conversion." My original was about 800gb; didn't look to see what the size was on my phone.
3) Next morning, with the usb connected, went to Gallery, it showed 1 video, but wouldn't play, black screen, no audio
4) Disconnected the usb, same
5) reconnected the usb, now it played
6) Disconnected the usb, and it still plays.

Motorola Media Link, from the Motorola web site, free. Lets you drag/drop videos, pictures, music. (Although on my palm, I'd just remove the SD card, put it into my laptop, drag/drop onto the sd card, fast. (Did I say fast.) No conversion, and it played the same video full screen, and gave me options to zoom to a number of levels. Gallery does not.

Editorial, off the topic of video play:
My first non palm in 7 years; forced myself to use the droid because I've come to believe that while I have 100% functionality on my Palm... the palm era is dead...long live the droid.

Droid: Disappointed that I have to add programs to do what on other smartphones just comes with. Not open source, but validated by Palm. Now your thinking that I can always add applications: understood...open source and at my own perl And I'm thinking that I wish I could delete those applications that duplicate other base functionality.
Standard Browser gets me youtube; amazon; market, facebook.
Why then do I have useless apps like youtube, amazon, market, facebook, better served by browser shortcuts/favorites.

Wish list:
- a droid desktop that gives me my contacts, calendars(s), notes on my desktop. If the "cloud" goes down... and it will, it makes no sense to have to get 5 different applications to do what should be vanilla. dr. 12-21-2009
Editorial ends.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas; may God bless you, your family and your friends this holiday season.
