Hardware Version 0004

K, I snagged Lockbot Pro and actually...it's awesome. It's like WidgetLocker in that it allows you to use the volume keys to wake up the phone (hence not using the power button). It also lets you change the lock style (iPhone, Hero, Eclair, Froyo, X10 and Galaxy) and lets you do cool things like shake the phone gently to unlock it. So far I really like it.

i would think it uses battery .. a little more.

the power button has a special design to release power and tell the phone to recognize it is being turned on.

if you use other buttons like the volume buttons that are not designed to release a power. then there must be a constant power to these buttons and phone.. to monitor the buttons to see if there is any commands. like shaking of the phone to turn on...

that just my thoughts... i might be wrong.

Well, went and picked up my dad's evo for him today and decided to check the hardware version. It turns out to be a 0004 with what i assume to be the epson screen since the rosie is "blacker". Just thought you guys might like to see.

I will post another picture in a minute!

Sorry its upside down lol

This is why there was an EVO shortage for so many months. Once again they were redesigning the internals.

i have 0003, what does this all mean?

It means that versions 2,3 were all found to be inadequate in some way and needing a major overhaul. Its a joke no more HTC phones for me. Do it right the first time or don't do it at all. You can be certain "the user abuse" poorly designed charging port was changed to one that works for sure. Again HTC your a joke!

Because they had to redesign something? Tell that to every car company, each of which has recalled literally millions of cars because of a defect, lack of a feature, or other error. Tell that to all the other cell phone manufacturers, like Apple with the iPhone 4, who have made errors in their design that turned out to not work in the real world.

It helps to have perspective sometimes. Not everything is perfect from the start, and I, for one, am glad to see HTC at least fixing their problems.

Where's the major overhaul? I'd put my version 3 up against a version 4 anyday for usability and reliability. I'm still on my original EVO with absolutely 0 problems. I think HTC did a fine job at making this phone.

I agree. I have a 003 that I got about 3 weeks after the EVO's launch and my girl has a 002 that she got on the day of launch and both of the phones are flawless. I have looked at each paying close attention to detail and both of the phones are perfect.

I have a HW revision 02 that's been replaced/fixed 5 times. Once for a failed update, Once for screen separation issues and 3 times for developing light spots on the LCD.

Sprint told me (although their word means very little to me) that the hardware revisions were due to supply/quality issues with the LCD screen. Each revision of the LCD screen is incompatible with the previous; they use a different ribbon cable/connector.

Last time I had my LCD replaced, they were running short on HW revision 2 LCDs. Hopefully they will be out next time and I can receive a new revision.

Yes and no. The two screens (epson and nova) are incompatible with each other, yes. But the hardware numbers do not have anything to do with what screen you get. We have seen hardware versions 02 and 03 have both screens.

This is correct. Only a MAJOR REVISION in board design and components warrant a hardware version change. This is not like a running change that car makers do for improvements. HW version 2 units are not interchangeable with HW #3 units, HW #3 units are not interchangeable with #4 units etc.

I just got a Version 004 today, and there is some light leakage. My last 003 had none whatsoever (till I cracked screen). However the WIFI is WAY better, I get much better signal in my bedroom (my router is in my basement) than I ever have with my two previous 003's. The wifi signal is as strong and sometimes stronger than my laptop. Phone came preinstalled with all the updates.

The 004 screen seems to be Epson, it's the coolest and least blueish of the 3 I've had. I just got it today so I'm not sure what other benefits it may have. The light leakage doesn't bother me. Thought about an epic because the evo screen breaks so easily, but I loves me some evo.

Hey guys I gave 1 week left on my 30 days. I have version 3 and was reading about the new version 4 that is out. It has the new software update that we wontget cause of a new part that they used in them that they had to update them. So my question is do you all think its worth it to exchange my 3 for the new 4? There is nothing wrong with my phone. No light leakage yet or screen seperation. Im just wondering if the 4 is a better phone. Thanks for your help guys!
