Android Market Place error!?

Hi folks,

Hate to make my first post on here a complaint but unfortunatly it has to be :(

I took out a new contract yesterday for the missus and got her the htc wildfire phone, set it all up quick and easy everything was going smooth, added all the wifi details and connected to the wifi first time no issues so then connected to the friends stream with facebook, googlemail was running getting emails fine so decided to go into the market place and have a look at the apps connected on fine had a quick search through the free apps thought I would start off downloading some of the major apps, facebook, twitter, ebay etc etc clicked on them got a msg saying this app will be downloading and it went off to the downloading section. Thought everything was fine and dandy so started a few more apps considering the phone is connected to a 20mb wifi network I thought the apps would be done pretty quick. I decided to go back into the phone's menu to check out the new apps but none had downloaded??

All what happens is it just says starting download and it never moves been connected to the wifi for 12 hours solid and not even 1kb has downloaded?? started to trail through forums and this apparently is a major issue for a long time seen some posts going back nearly 2 years??

What is this problem and why is it taking so long to fix seriously when a new phone comes out you expect it to be working out of the box espically when android has been going for while.

Can someone please give me a solution to help me download some apps.

Cheers

Alan

Hi Alan,

The Market Place is up the spout at the moment I'm afraid - there are lots of threads about this. I've got about 8 updates which are trying to download but won't.

Google are supposedly working on a fix but they'd better pull their fingers out - bit of a farce for supposedly high end phones to have this issue.

There are 'fixes' amongst the threads on here but none have worked for me.

The good news, at least, is that it isn't a problem with the phone itself.

Thanks for the quick response, do you know of any of the fixes that have had some success might as well try something lol

Cant believe their is a major issue like this going on... Glad I stuck with my Iphone I was gonna change my contract yesterday as well but thought I would use the missus as a guinea pig to see what android is like lol

You could try going into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and then clear cache and data in Market. Also (via the same route) uninstall updates in Maps.

Neither worked for me - seems to be a very widespread problem.

I'd hang onto that Iphone - Android can be great but there's definitely a beta feel to some of it. Having said that, I've had my Desire for about 6 months and this is the first problem I've had with downloading.

Be interesting what you make of battery life vs the Iphone too.

Clearing the cache worked for me, although with a brand new phone I don't see why this should. I'd say that android has cost itself at least one customer now, I know if I tried an iphone and the first thing that happened was a problem, I'd feel justified in my decision to go with android, so no doubt it will be the same vice versa. I'd like to defend android though, I've been really pleased with it.

I would love to see the android fully working so I can compare it to my iphone, just hope I am not waiting to long for the market place to start working again.

By the way is their anybody actually able to download from the market place.

It might just be the way I have setup things? do you lot think it could be worth setting phone to factory defaults and starting again?

thanks

When this happens to me, I frequently simply cancel the download and reinitiate it and it generally works. If not I clear cache, if that still doesn't work, I clear data and that usually does it.

I have noticed that I usually run into this problem if I try to download/update more than two apps at any given time. I find if I simply slow down and wait for the first to move to the install mode, the next will download fine. It's like I'm getting ahead of the system and it doesn't like it. It shouldn't work that way but until they streamline it, I'm gonna stick w/ patience is a virtue outlook.

Not possible unless the app's developer has a website where you can download the apk. It will be around 5% of apps you will be able to do that with.
