well, last week i cut and pasted yathusans email that he sent to o2.
i didnt put any thought into it and was not hopeful in the slightest in getting any response

yesterday, a guy form o2 customer complaints phoned me.
the conversation went like this

o2 " hi we've got your email about not being happy with the galaxy and i see you want a new phone, preferably free"

me "yes"

o2 "what phone do you want ?"

me "erm, galaxy S"

o2 " -pause- ok sir, it will be dispatched straight away, sorry for any inconvenience"

me "thanks!!!!!"

basically, my 18 month contract runs until April 2011. The guy said this DOES NOT change this so therefore, i am still eligible for an upgrade come April.
I took a punt on the S as i know if i dont get on with it by early next year i can sell it on, if i do like it, i can have another handset and sell that one.

happy days!

Good to hear of more successes. Maybe o2 aren't so bad after all. I'm still very happy with my Galaxy S and hope you will be as well. I'm running Froyo JPM but there's already a more stable release out there (supposedly) and the rumours say Samsung are releasing the Nexus 2 (well next Google Dev phone anyway, it won't be called Nexus 2) on the 8th with Gingerbread (2.3) so it seems for once Samsung may be ahead of the curve with Android releases.

Even without Gingerbread and all the juicy stuff that's supposed to bring the Galaxy S is a lovely phone and while I'm sure i'd have been just as happy with the Desire I'm content.

They were probably, oh it's another "yathusan" email, just give the guy what he wants we don't want any more bad press on androidfourms!!

Yeah it's nice timing. Hopefully in 6 months you can still get a decent amount if you decide to sell the SGS and get a new handset. My contract has another year to go and no doubt I'll soon have handset envy, but really I'm happy with the SGS and could easily see myself sticking with it even once my contract ends.

Sad to come back to the i7500 forum and see things haven't changed much; what's the status of GAOSP?

Well, it took me a while (see previous posts in this thread) but I've joined the club :) My Desire is in the van on it's way to my house. Sadly I'm at work so I'll have to pick it up Saturday but still win!
Top tips;
If they call, talk to them. On my original complaint I couldn't when they rang and I had to chat via email - FAIL.
If you're going down a blind alley, start a new complaint to get someone else. Worked for me in the end :)

I am going to hang on to my Galaxy phone for a while. I have played with the GAOSPs. They are getting better and believe the final release will be fantastic. Right now I am back on the Samsung JC6. It doesn't torment my battery like the nightlys. The phone with Drakaz's final release will more than last me until I am eligible for a new phone. From what I have heard from all the complaints, it is a lot better than having a Galaxy S. My GT-i7500 is running great.

Thanks for this guys. I have finally cracked today when I saw the Galaxy S is getting 2.2 and I am still on 1.5 so I too have tried emailing o2 and whingeing. As I only have 3 and a bit motnhs to go on my contract I think there is a decent chance of getting somewhere.

To me I dont mind the "small beer" problems - but for something I paid some hundreds of pounds for I do expect to be updated on the Android front.

As I have been hiding under a stone crossing off the days of remaining contract I havent been studying the alternatives. From the above it appears that if my fairy godmother answers my email I should be thinking of the Galaxy S (if I have to - I rather depsie how Samsung shafted me - a big company like that can afford to look after its customers) or the Deisre?

Thanks yathusan for posting your email text - I took it and customised it a bit in case it starts looking a bit generic. Most kind.

thanks again to this forum and great userbase :)

Well, I've had it a while now and as Cougar says, it's quite astonishing. You know how your mates have an iPhone and you wish your Galaxy was quite that smooth? Well the Desire is and then some. Absolutely no lag whatsoever :)
No more fear of clicking on a web link by accident and having to decide whether to try and click out or wait for the bugger to load - you can do either and it just does it immediately. Tons of stuff going on, still got 30% of memory free.
Gorgeous big screen too. 2.2 out of the box.
It really is everything I expected from the Galaxy and then some. Need to see what the battery life is like (trying widgets and live wallpaper as they were real no goes for me on the i7500) seems comparable so far.

Huge props to Drakaz and the community though, without their hard work the i7500 would have been torture.

Well I've made some progress. Had a call earlier from O2 and they offered me either an early upgrade or a swap to a refurb Samsung Galaxy S. I decided on the swap (Only have 3months of contract left, so thought I could try out another phone and then see how things stand in a couple of months when renewal is due).

I kept pushing for a Desire as my first choice but the person I spoke to wasn't having it and told me only swap option I had was the SGS. Not that I'm complaining too much.. either will be a massive improvement over the i7500 I'm sure.

Will let you know what actually turns up and my thoughts on it. Good luck to everyone else who's going down the complaints route with their device.

"brand new with the 4gb card inside too"

Oh, you swine! I guess that's karma at least. Grats matey.
Cheers man :) Was really surprised to get a new sealed box after what people have been saying in the thread and then this;

makes me wonder why they're being so random with it all? Congrats on the replacement though, it'll be streets ahead.

Hate to go on about the phone (the Desire) but I have 5 screens, multiple updating widgets, live wallpaper and plenty of use on internet and games yesterday (still got that new phone must play feeling). Was up at eight, went to bed a bit after midnight. Still had 30% battery left  Amazing.
How are you finding the battery life Cougar? Seems opinion varies...
