Root Want to update to 2.2 - A few questions first

Hey guys and girls!

I haven't been active on here in awhile because I got bombarded with school work. Anyway, I have an Incredible running rooted 2.1 but all stock other than that. I searched most of this stuff out before, but I could never find a clear and solid answer. Here goes:

1. I have a custom boot animation that I love. How do I change this on 2.2 to be the same one that I am running now?

2. How do I downgrade the version of Google Maps on the phone if I don't like it. I haven't heard many good things about it, and I rely heavily on my phone as navigation. I'm still on an older version of Google Maps because it works perfectly.

3. I understand that Verizon put some extra crap on 2.2 that is annoying. Do I have to be rooted to get rid of it? I don't really want to root 2.2, but I will if I have to.

4. I have the paid version of Titanium Backup. I am assuming that I will be unable to run Titanium Backup when I go to 2.2 to reload all my apps and settings. Is this a correct assumption?

Thanks in advance for any help. Those are the four main reasons I haven't downgraded to stock 2.1 and then updated to 2.2. :)

I just realized I may have posted this in the wrong section of the forum. Doh!

Sorry don't know that one

2. How do I downgrade the version of Google Maps on the phone if I don't like it. I haven't heard many good things about it, and I rely heavily on my phone as navigation. I'm still on an older version of Google Maps because it works perfectly.

Don't know if the old one will work but you might save the apk, that said - I have the most recent stuff and it works pretty good - I too use the nav all the time.

3. I understand that Verizon put some extra crap on 2.2 that is annoying. Do I have to be rooted to get rid of it? I don't really want to root 2.2, but I will if I have to.

I rooted mine again (it was super easy with current unrevoked) and used Titanium back to freeze those apps I didn't want to be bothered running or seeing - if I ever change my mind, they're ready for defrosting and space isn't a problem for me.

4. I have the paid version of Titanium Backup. I am assuming that I will be unable to run Titanium Backup when I go to 2.2 to reload all my apps and settings. Is this a correct assumption?
Apps - if they aren't stock apps from HTC/Google you'd think it be ok, settings is a guess; initially when I went from 2.1 to 2.2 I did the OTA update and didn't have to deal with any restoring though many claimed a clean wipe was better. Didn't seem to be the case for me but then in Oct my phone met an untimely death with a driveway and a car and so was replaced with a new 2.2 phone, which I promptly rerooted etc. The backup in that case was like to like if you know what i mean.

Thanks in advance for any help. Those are the four main reasons I haven't downgraded to stock 2.1 and then updated to 2.2. :)

Since you're rooted, you could nand backup your whole phone and just give 2.2 a go. I just backed mine up as well cause I wanted to try the leaked HTC kernel as it's getting claims of better recharge, etc. So far nothing bad has happened :), new setCPU 2.0.4 works great with it and maybe it is charging faster - too soon to tell.

2.2 was most definitely faster and smoother than 2.1 for me, some claimed issues with battery but perhaps they weren't rooted/running setCPU.

If you update to 2.2, you'll also get the updated radio which may negatively affect your 2.1 configuration should you decide to flash back to it. If you have s-off though, you could always use a nand restore to get back to 2.1, then flash the old stock radio (PB31IMG in hboot). Then you'd be back to 2.1 as you know it.

Also, you'd have to be rooted on either 2.1 or 2.2 to use Titanium since it requires superuser to run.

Good point iowa. Is it easy to root 2.2? I have no idea what s-off is. I've been trying to follow the new 2.2 root lingo in other threads, but it's completely over my head. I don't necessarily NEED to restore apps and settings. I am willing to do that manually. I am mainly concerned with Google Maps, my custom boot screen, and bloatware.
