Just got an update in the market for the trial version and I see full version is in the market now for $4.99. So what's the difference between the trial version and full version?

Yes you read that correct. PowerAMP is now on the market for $5. If you haven't tried it yet, do so now. Its one of the best music players out there.

That's too bad. So basically if we want to continue to use it, we'll have to buy it.

I would have liked to seen a free ad supported or high end feature restricted version.

No chance of that?

I'll probably just delete this then. Probably not worth $5 to me.

I disagree. To me a high quality music playing app is worth $5 to me. I'll wait until the trial expires and I might buy at that point.

It's a toss up for me. I believe in supporting a developer who creates a quality app. I do find $5 a bit steep for the market (no, it's not a bank-breaker, just comparing it to other similar apps). There are other very nice and free alternatives (WinAmp, for example) so it's not like I need to purchase a decent audio player. I'll decide when the trial craps out.

He has said there will be a free version available. I don't know if he means a time sensitive trial which will expire like we have now or a stripped down free version.

Right now there is no "paid" and "free" version. The free version is the full app - what you pay for is a unlocker basically (which takes off the trial part, not unlocks more features).

The dev's response seems to make it pretty clear that the trial will cease to function at the end of 2 weeks. I did see that he said that there will always be a trial. Maybe you could clear data, uninstall, reinstall trial every 2 weeks, but no one really is going to do that.

I think I'll end up getting it, but for $5 I'm not too happy about it. In 2 weeks I'll see how things come to pass I guess.

Edit: I see you posted in that thread to ask if there would be a stripped down/ad supported version, so hopefully that gets answered.

This player is well worth five bucks to me, however, I will not be purchasing until the following issue is resolved:

bought this about 2 hrs ago
concerns me a little whether this licence verification thing is going to become a problem as after i bought it and installed the key i turned off data access.
it force flosed the player telling me it couldnt verify my credentials with the market licencing system.
after i enabled data connection it was fine, since then its not done it again with data access disabled but i concern is that if it does random checks, what if it checks when im on a plane or somewhere that doesnt have data?

my music is for anywhere and shouldnt be limited to internet connection

Wow, if it's true that you can't listen if you don't have a data connection, that's a big problem.

I have the full version and just turned on airplane mode to see if the app would play music without a data connection. Had no issues. Might be a bug. I'm using a HTC Droid Incredible.

It's probably just a one time check after purchasing, but there is talk in that thread that it might use some new licensing model which verifies the licensing periodically. I imagine this will turn out to be a non-issue, but I just thought I would share the info anyway.

I think it's likely a weird bug. I've got other apps that use the licensing model and they work just fine with no data.

I'm surprised people are upset over the 5 dollar price, heck for the price of a Big Mac combo, I get an app that turns my phone into everything I had before on my $150 MP3 player...well worth it to me, but to each his/her own I guess.

So does the paid version give you anything other then no limit? Im loving the player but $5 is kind of steep for me. Im a college student and if all i have to do is keep uninstalling and clear data i would rather do that. Esepecially if i get nothing extra from buying it. Im also for the ad version or even a ad version with a $1 or $2 donation. I actually dont mind some of the adds.

It's not that $5 will break anybody. Clearly we have spent hundreds of dollars on our phones and a lot per month for the ability to continue using them. It comes down to the market and what is available from the competition.

As an example, most iPhone apps are $0.99 and that is what the market bears. Apps which cost $3 are not outrageously expensive but they are higher than the average and therefore the expectation is that they better be worth the extra $2.

Clearly PowerAMP is the best audio player out there. With WinAmp available for free, I question whether it is $5 better. I'm not saying it isn't and I'm not saying I won't buy it, but it's not a given and needs to withstand some pretty tough scrutiny on my part.

I had an iphone.. there are a ton of apps in the app store priced around the same price as this and a LOT of them priced higher.

I tried WinAmp and was not overly impressed with it myself. It's a personal preference thing though. To me $5 isn't that much when you consider that it's big competitor is probably MixZing and that's $8.
