Reading how durable the Captivate screen is very durable, and it seems a screen protector is not needed.

One reason a person may want one is for reduced glare, getting a non-glare type protector. But then there is the reduction of color.

I've read very good review of the fairly expensive Martinshields protector, but it does sound like it glares as well, and fingerprints are a problem. That is in fact one of the problems with the native screen. Constantly wanting to wipe it on my shirt.

I've read through several threads on protectors, and I"m thinking of getting this one. The fingerprints is my main reason, so I guess I'll likely see how this goes.

Welcome your thoughts.

Just because gorilla glass doesn't crack or shatter, that doesn't mean that it is indestructible. It is still just as sensitive to dinks and scratches from anything from coins to keys as any other screen. I haven't ordered them yet, but realook screen protecters seem like the best amd generally have the best reviews.

Go to ebay, there's plenty of sellers that sell 5-6 screen protectors for a couple of dollars. Why would you need so many you ask? Because applying them without any spec of dust on the screen isn't easy, so a bunch of spare ones will come in handy.
Be careful though some of the protectors have a cutout for the light sensor, or whatever is beside the speaker at the top, look at the pics of the protectors carefully and choose one that covers the whole screen.

The only two I would ever use are Realook and SGP. I have Realook while a friend has the SGP and they are top shelf. I have never seen the anti fingerprint from SGP installed so if you do get them a small review or a pic would be nice :)

I have no issues with mine and prefer crystal clear. I only installed my screen protector since I am constantly cleaning the screen with my shirt and I don't want a single scratch. A co-worker of mine has a scratched screen. He forgot his keys were in his pocket and a few hours later noticed it tore his screen to hell. I have read on here where folks toss the phone in there pocket with coins/keys naked and never had a scratch - go figure

Good luck

Thanks Guys.

I did a search for Realook, and don't find any for the Captivate.

I think I'll give the fingerprint free SGPs and see how it goes.

[EDIT]
Hmmm....here's a review from Amazon:

I'll do the review.
Good screen protector,
but two bad things...
1. the whites are slightly grainy
2. everything will be slightly blurry

but overall its a good buy

Just in case, here is where I got mine

Amazon.com: REALOOK AT&T Samsung Captivate Crystal Clear Premium LCD Screen Protector 2 Pack: Electronics

They might not be what you are looking for though if you want anti fingerprint. This is the only thing that sort of bugs me since they do show up with pretty easily as well as with the regular sgp's on my friends captivate. Since I wipe it with my shirt now regularly I have no issues with FP's though :)

Thanks for that. :)

I have ordered the SGP Anti Fingerprint one. I am pretty certain that they will make the screen somewhat grainy. But I find myself in situations where the reflection and fingerprints are bothersome, and I am constantly wiping it.

I guess I'll see how it goes. Everything has a tradeoff it seems.

Again, I'll post my findings on it.

Nice. I am no fan of fingerprints but now that I am covered I wipe the hell out of my screen. Its almost an obsession :(

I wanted to avoid any graininess (physical or visual) or more importantly orange peel texture so I look forward to the review to see how this one works out for you.

I have them on order. I do expect graininess. May not be able to avoid that with a fingerprint free film. I suspect it will be a trade-off.

I'll be back with a review soon.

I have it on my screen and I really like it. Here are some of my thoughts/experiences:

  • I had difficulty installing the first one. No different than I've seen anyone else experience. I found that best way to install was to pull the film back almost all the way, so that I could align it well over the screen.
  • Yes, it does make the screen a bit grainy. But it is not much, especially on this screen, compared to other phones.
  • The thing I really like about it is: No reflection, and no fingerprints.
  • No need to constantly wipe the screen.
  • I like the feel when I use my finger on the screen. In my opinion it improves the tacticle use of the screen. Maybe a bit less sensitive, which I considered a bit too sensitive

I purchased this mainly for the anti-glare/anti-fingerprint qualities. It achieves that well.

I have realook screen protector. 2 for about $11. Super thin so it really looks like NOTHING on it! It says anti glare, anti smudge, anti whatever else...but it does a great job. Only one scratch on the protector itself.

I like that little extra protection...can't see it...I LOVE IT!

So does it accomplish anti-glare and anti-smudge?

With these realock versions, do the instructions have you wet them so they can slide around before installation, or are they stick-and-hope? I've had the Best Skins Ever, and I really like how you wet them with some soapy water first - gives you a little time to get the positioning right. But...they had an orange peel look to them. Curious if there are the same to install. I hate getting one shot to guess with some of the ones you just drop on.

I can't speak to the Realock versions.

But on the on the Steinheil that I reviewed above, I did in fact have my first attempt land wrong. There were no instructions to wet it first.

Then the next problem was I ended up with a couple small pieces of dirt under it. I was even in the bath room steaming it up to hopefully not have that problem.

One of the 'selling features' of this brand was that it did not have any sticky adhesive. I ended up rinsing it under water, and got it positioned well. Alas, on the right side for about half the length, and about 1/16" from edge in, it is not sticking. The good news for me is I am using a Seido case, and it is clipped under the edge of that case, and so far, dirt is not accumulating under it.

After that experience I did a great job installing the one on my wife's phone. I just pulled the cover from the back a but more than 3/4 off and was able to better align it the first time. Went on good and clean and is working fine.

Neat trick I've found to help get rid of dust specs when you're applying the protectors is to have a piece of scotch tape handy and use it to remove the dust speck (like removing hair with a lint brush) -- as you're applying.

Basically, start applying the protector. If you find any dust specs, lift up the protector and use the scotch tape to pluck off the offending dust speck. Repeat as needed.

You sometimes have to do this a few times in a few places, but works to get your screen protector application dust free. Be warned - I've only done this with dry-apply protectors. Not sure this would be a good idea for wet-apply applications.

^^^Right on. This comes in very handy.

Another trick to use anytime you apply one of these types of screen protectors is to spray water in the air. Just take a squirt bottle of some sort and spray about a 15 square foot area around where you are working. Give it a minute or two so the water can settle, then install.

I used to get dust under screen protectors EVERY TIME:mad: Then I'd have to use the scotch tape technique. However, since I started doing the water thing, no more dust. None!

Here's a trick I remember from my Palm days:

Go into the bathroom, close the door, and run the shower as hot as it'll go. Steam up the room. The moisture in the air will lock up the dust and carry it away. Apply the screen protector while inside the steamy bathroom.

hmmm...No probs with moisture getting into the phone? Sounds like a good idea, but wouldn't you risk activating the moisture sensor thing in the phone and void your warranty (and may not even know it) until it's too late?

I think applying after the steam is gone would make sense, but while still steamy seems a little risky to me.
