Rogers Dream 1.6 Update

All I want for Christmas is 2.0

This is so frustrating and its definetly not impossible,
Even sense is available for Taiwan users.

Side note : has anyone tried updating to sense using the Taiwan update?

I tried using that update; I even tried by using a fake serial number.
However, there is something that will not allow you to update the Rogers ROM.
(Apparently you can make your sd card into a "goldcard", which will allow this activity.) For further instructions on how to change your sd card to a goldcard, see xda-developers.

If you are using Gmail, check your spam, your reply might be in there. There have been a couple of us that have had email from Rogers end up there.

gbd

Thanks GBD, I'll watch my spam for replies. I probably already missed the reply to their contact us form, I clear out the spam fairly often on my Gmail and probably glanced over it.

On a side note, I stopped by a Wind kiosk today and asked the girl working a few questions. They hope to launch Friday or first thing next week. They will not have any Android phone's at launch, but will be getting them. Off-topic but it was mentioned here, so I thought followers might be interested.

Hey all,

Received an email reply from Therese at the OotP, she will be calling me tomorrow. Another point of view from the OotP to come! Hopefully this one fits with Sherri and Ethan rather then ...... was it Evan that said no go to Andy?

At any rate after she gives me her version of the story, I'll be sure to mention all the other versions and see if she can clarify that. This is all assuming she gets back to me.

Since Wind got the go-ahead from the Feds, there is the opportunity for Rogers to start to compete on the basis of Service (of which upgrading android would be a prime part).
On the other hand, Rogers might want to start to compete by lowering costs and lowering prices - that would not be good news for Android owners.
If anyone knows or hears how Rogers is planning to compete, i.e. what their strategy is, please let us all know.

Sorry I have not been posting here in a while guys but I have been busy with...well...life :D:D. I am waiting to see what new information develops from this next call from tOotP. I am fed up and in the new year I will be cancelling my services with rogers. I currently have television, Internet and cell service with them. I will definitely be cancelling my Internet with them and going with tecksavy. I guess I will have to go with bell for my television service. I am waiting to see what the shake down is here to see if I can get out of my contact with rogers, and if I can I will start to look for a new cell phone provider. I know I have said it in the past but rogers will no longer be getting my $200 a month.

Congratulations rogers you lost me as a customer no matter what you do now because you simply would not give an answer in a timely fashion. Good job!

How about a relentless negative media campaign around Rogers customer handling?

- Here is a list of the top newspapers in Canada
- click on a newspaper
- you should get a list of publishers and top journalists

- Here is a list of TV stations in Canada
- Click on an area
- this will give you a list of TV-stations
- click on a TV station and you should get a list of shows, personalities and reporters.

- List of popular Online Magazine/Blogs???
- BoyGeniusRport
- Please add to list

We need the following:

- Some talking points (please edit as you wish:
. Rogers sell phones with oudated OS/software and label them as ??
. Smartphone are expensive portable computers and requires OS and software upgrades; the same way a desktop/latptop requires updates to OS/Software such as from Windows 2k to WIndowsXP, to Vista, and to Win7 or from Office 2k to OfficeXP to Office2010
. Rogers Refuse to provide customers with straight answers if and when updates may be delivered
. Rogers personnel from the Office of the President) provide contradictory answers to customers.

We need volunteers to contact TV stations, Newspapers, etc. Be ready to be interviewed

Remember journalists/reporters have limited time. They are looking for a story. So Make it short. Make it hot. Make it controversial. Remember your talking points.

Yeah I was wondering about WIND. Will the spectrum they won in the auction support our phones? I've seen lots of suggestions from people there about buying people out of their current contracts etc. Would be nice if WIND is actually going to shake things up in the mobile world here in Canada.

The auction was for the 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum. I believe this is what US carriers such as T-Mobile use for their 3G. And since WIND will be 3G only, I assume it will be compatible with US phones.

However, this will be the first Canadian carrier to use this spectrum (since it was just auctioned). Rogers, Telus and Bell all use 850/1900 for GSM and 3G.

If you look back through the thread you will see that some of us have already contacted numerous media outlets. The only bites so far have been a cell phone blog, and the personal blog of Jesse Hirsh of the CBC.

Once we have some good content in the FB Group _and_ on GBD's blog, we can try going to these media outlets again as an official "group" with an organized presence, and we can generate more attention to that.

MOST IMPORTANT: No one should be posting anything that is not true, misleading, or which has not yet been corroborated. We want to be taken seriously. At the moment we only know the following to be true:

- Rogers CSRs have been giving conflicting information.
- Some Rogers CSRs have been telling people they can DL the update _now_ from Roger's site and erroneously directing them to the recent bug fix/security patch.
- Sherry (and Ethan) from the Office of the President informed mjschmidt (and another forum member) that Rogers would be receiving the update FROM HTC toward the end of December for testing and evaluation and that we MIGHT get an update in the new year.
- Mary Freeman from the OotP told Andy2010 that it was being tested NOW (this was over a week ago from the date of this post).
- Sherry and Mary can't both be right, so there is confusion in the OotP

We have not yet had confirmation of what Simon told Andy2010, that it was not coming at all.

Wow, there are a couple of guys in this forum: Rogers won't commit to updating Android phones to new OS versions - MobileSyrup.com Forum who just don't get it. They are either morons, or Rogers employees.

Despite GBD and myself spelling out the facts for them, they continue to say that HTC is skipping 1.6 and not making it for Dream and Magic, and that it's the users responsibility to get updates them selves (by rooting, I suppose!).

I made a long post with all the facts spelled out again. I don't know, I think maybe they are also confusing the Android OS with Sense UI!

Sorry, idiocy and intentional ignorance frustrate the crap out of me.

Hey my post is in CBC comment

Rogers service has gone from bad to worse. We have a group of android cell phone owners ( HTC dream/magic and LG eve ) are very upset with Rogers for not providing firmware upgrade. So much for Rogers commitment to their customers. If you happen to own one of these hand phone above, feel free to follow us

http://androidforums.com/rogers/10647-rogers-dream-1-6-update.html

Rogers still mum on Android 1.6 Update issue

Rogers says they aren't responsible for firmware update

I can only insert 3 external links. So feel free to post on the comment with more links
