Hi

I own a htc desire which was updated to 2.2 a cpl months back.

I sent a text a few mins ago. and then when i came back to my phone all my text history has disappeared.

I have not selected the option to delete all old messages, So im a bit confused and annoyed about this.

Especially since ive lost a lot of important messages.

Has anyone had the same issue? Is there any solutions???

Hi Harp,
This exact same thing has happened to me. I've had my Desire since April, and nothing like this has ever happened before.

Once or twice the phone thinks it has forgotten all my contacts, but if I turn it off and back on again, they come back. But that doesn't work this time.
Some time the messages app also gets confused when I click on a contact and it sits "loading" until I quit out of it. (But other times it doesn't, even clicking same contacts)

I assume it must have happened to me a couple of messages back and I didn't notice, because messages sent in the last 24 hours are there ... but none earlier.

I never delete messages.

I have had that same issue before too!

But whats annoying me is that i didnt even see an error message pop up or anything! just sent a text and then boom, whole history has gone!

i'm on tmobile.

I'm not someone to complain or moan and try get things out companies. I just want a full explanation and probably will be keep on at them until I get one!

I'm still annoyed about it this morning!!!

Here's one very odd thing about my situation that I've just noticed ...

I assumed that the issue must have occurred yesterday or early today because some of the sent/received smses from this morning are still there.

BUT ... some messages from tonight have also been deleted - messages that were received after some of the messages that still remain.

That's weird.

Bummer. I've just received a text this morning, went to read it, went into Handcent and it only displayed that one message - which I thought was a bit odd, so read the text, went out of Handcent and then back in but there was still only the one message. Panicking I then checked the stock Messages app - but that only displayed the one message too - so it's not a Handcent issues! But...everything is just gone? I can't believe it?! I hope HTC release a fix for this, BUT if everything has been wiped, I can't see it happening and I can't see them getting anything back - had my Desire for AGES now and this is the FIRST and ONLY time it's ever cocked up...ANNOYED!

Same happened to me - exactly as you described Simmouk and I was using Handcent too.

*raises hand* ......and to me. Exactly the same thing and I'm also using Handcent. It happened last Friday night (12th Nov). Had been texting all day without incident. Saw my notification LED flashing so went to check the incoming text and noticed it was the only one there and the rest of history/threads was completely blank! Also checked the stock app and discovered it was the same. Switched on and off a couple of times in case it was just a display glitch but no.....everything had gone.

Luckily I have the paid My Backup Pro app which backs everything up to the SD card daily so was able to reinstate the missing texts from that (it auto runs on my phone at 10am every day) and in effect only lost one day's texts but even so.......grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I also had to go back in and manually lock every text in one of my threads which took some time but obviously they were locked in the first place because I want to keep them.

I have had my Desire since the beginning of July and nothing like this has ever happened before so I have no idea what caused it?

Great ... HTC Support have gotten back to suggest I:

a) do a soft reset - take battery out for 10 mins

and if that does not "work" ...

b) do a hard reset - which will wipe everything off my phone and return it to factory settings.

IS IT JUST ME ... or does that sound like "we have no idea, so we'll suggest you nuke your phone just in case" ?

So, even if it might just be something they'll release a minor patch for at some stage, for now I'm supposed to go to the hassle of backing up my whole phone and wiping it, and then cross my fingers hoping it won't happen again? Cuz if they have no idea what caused the problem, it could occur again 5 seconds after that reset.

grrrr

thats crazy

i wont be doing any of that. its not exactly a solution!

i've emailed my network operator too about this.

not expecting much. but ill probably exhaust all contact to get a decent response. ill even try and get tech sites to try and report on it or comment on it so people know about the issue and at least download some kind of text back up app.

Looks like a lot of us on this thread and the one Robogo linked to a couple of posts above are using Handcent rather than the stock messaging app. I wonder whether this has any bearing eg. some kind of conflict, as I have only added Handcent within the last 10 days or so but prior to that have had no issues of this kind with my Desire in the almost 5 months I have owned it?

I've never installed Handcent, and it happened to me.
Doesn't prove it wasn't Handcent that did it to you, but less likely.
Same here, never used Handcent or anything alike on my Desire and it still ate up all my messages.

The last two posts are very interesting, sare99 saying they think it may very well just be an issue that Handcent has caused - which I was beginning to think too - but if it's hit Rainbow Snake's too and they don't even use Handcent then it MUST be an OS issue? Annoyed!!!
Definitely an OS issue since it happened to people using the stock app, Handcent, AND chompSMS too. But I have to say, the chick who received my support ticket e-mail seemed a bit baffled by my question, like she'd never heard of this happening.

hi everyone,

quick updates

i've calmed down since this has all happened. still a bit annoyed and dont want it to happen again.

i contacted htc who have replied saying they are escalating the issue. so far in the cpl responses that ive had they've come accross really interested in this issue.

tmobile contacted me and were really understanding about it and gave me a direct line to see what htc's response will be.

not expecting much else but hoping htc come back with an offical response to this issue!

ill keep you up to date!

Exactly the same problem experienced today - 7 months worth of sent/received texts, all in one foul swoop.

Definitely not checked 'delete old messages'.

Using stock message app.

HTC - SORT THIS OUT, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND YOU CHOOSE TO IGNORE BY THE SOUNDS OF IT!!!

Most of us would provide log files if we knew how, and you could probably replicate in a lab and provide a fix.

I have praised the HTC Desire since launch, and this is the first major downfall IMHO
