Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Releasing Soon

my guess would be yes it will.
Depending on the release date on the version ?2.5? the desire may get that too
i think that anything above 2.5 probably wont be available on the desire.

Don't think so. The Desire is a very capable smartphone, with 1Ghz processor and can cope with the forthcoming 3.0. I can't see a reason why it it wouldn't work past 2.5 (if there is one yet to be implemented)?

even if it was released in the next week or 2 wouldent that mean it still has to go to htc for them to add the sence software to it???
then you may be able to get it for unbrandied phones and custom roms would be next to follow...
then after htc have finished it would still have to go to the networks for them to mess it up even more. so those of us with brandied phones will be waiting a lot lot longer. iv only just this last week got the official virgin release of 2.2 so i think its going to be another 6 months atleast before we see it. just in time for all the posts going up on when we will be getting honeycomb 3.0

There is no guarantee that HTC will do a Gingerbread update for the Desire at all. There is the effort required to port HTC Sense over, and then a few weeks of testing (you would not want a half baked OTA update, right?) and finally the carrier approval process which would take another few weeks. All this is required of a manufacturer and carriers who are more interested in getting you to buy a new phone in a few months' time.

In short, I am hoping to see an official Gingerbread update for my Desire, but I am not really expecting one.

I got an OTA update this morning on my way to work and I thought it was going to be my 2.3 update but after my phone rebooted it stated that the new current version is 1.22.531.8.

I then went and looked at my settings and apparently my phone did not not upgrade to Gingerbread. It still shows my Android Version as 2.2. The 1.22.531.8 appears to be just a new build number.

Has anyone else experienced this or a similar issue? I hope to get my Gingerbread update soon.
