I found a good price on an unlocked HTC Desire but its labeled as "Sim Free / unlocked". Does this mean I cannot insert my current sim card into this phone?

Just a side note/rant. Sales reps have no clue about anything so I prefer to ask here. When I've inquired whether a particular stock of Desires was AMOLED or SLCD most simply read the website's description. When I told them about SLCD they had no idea there was a manufacturing change. One guy told me "We don't know whats in the boxes".

1) Sim free means you are buying the handset only and you have to provide your own sim.

2) It is extremely doubtful that there are any AMOLED versions that haven't been sold. Desire switched to SLCD as there were not enough AMOOLED screens available to meet demand.

If the box says "AMOLED" under the specifications, then thats what it is. SLCD boxes do not mention screen type at all.

1. SIM Free/Unlocked means that you can use your handset with any operator/service provider.

2. If you are looking to purchase one now, it is almost a certainty that you will buy the SLCD version.

It is a pity that sales reps are not educated about this. I did my research before purchasing mine. Lotta dunderhead sales reps where I am. :/

Good luck with your purchase!
