The Quandry has come at last

I always said it would most likely happen sooner or later, too many peeps do not have 4 G coverage, they would be better of trying to sell more phones and add $50 more on a decent phone. Greed usually gets the best of them :D

It looks like the new Nexus is going to T-Mobile....UGH!!
BUT there is still hope for a cool new phone. AND rumor has it Sprint is going to drop the extra $10 fee for 4G capable phones.

I'm confused. Does this mean the Nexus S is coming to Sprint? The title suggests that it isn't but the article suggests otherwise. And the Knight/Speedy/Shift 4G is 4G!?! I've been holding out for a better phone for nothing!!!?? Tempted to go get the Epic now!

Yes the article is confusing. It sounds like Sprint wanted the Nexus S but Samsung couldn't produce the quantity that Sprint wanted for the holidays. Doesn't make much sense to me. I'd think they could a) Take what they could get or b) Wait til after the holidays to release it.
SO disappointed the Knight/Speedy/Shift is going to have a physical keyboard! WTH is it with Sprint putting physical keyboards on all these phones? GRR!! I want to get rid of my Hero but so far Sprint has failed miserably in the phone department.

I'm still standing behind my Optimus S. Awesome phone if you don't want a keyboard or 4g. Great upgrade from the Hero. I would have no probelm what so ever with 4g if they dropped that bogus $100 charge.

Glad to hear you're still loving your Optimus S after you've had some time with it. Does it do everything your Hero did? One of my hesitations is that they're calling it an entry level Android phone. I'm not sure what that means as far as it's capabilities go but it makes me think maybe it doesn't do as much as the Hero.

Every time Sprint announces a new phone that's 4G and/or has a physical keyboard I get that much closer to buying the Optimus S. I just know as soon as I do they will really some really cool phone that I'll kick myself for not waiting on!

What a difference a year makes! A year ago the Hero was Sprints flagship Android phone. The Optimus S is an "entry level" Android phone. IMHO the Optimus blows the Hero away! ;)

And remember Sprint set a precedent with the $10 charge, I expect others to follow.

I kind of assumed that this was their version of the tiered data plans the other carriers are using. Does the 4G fee remove the 5 gig cap?

I'm in the exact same boat. What to do! I can't wait to ditch my Hero

I'm in the same boat. Upgrade rolled over last Monday. Went to the store and played with an Evo. We're in a 4G area and the speed was impressive, so the $10 pr month is a non-issue for me. I'd just like and idea of what might be coming down the linein the next three or four months. The Knight does look nice.

I had the Evo for about two weeks then Walmart had a special in that you get $100 gift card. But I waited too long in between returing the phone to best buy and picking up the Evo at Walmart. I feel in love with the Hero again. The size is perfect. I liked the Evo but love the Hero. It does almost everything the Evo did and everything I need it to do.

3.7 inch screen of the Speedy/Knight/Shift 4G is something I think I would like better. Whether 4G or not (4G is available), the feel of the phone matters and I could do everything with one hand on the Hero where I would have to use two hands on the Evo. Trackball, oh did I miss the trackball.

Weird that I would rather have my cracked Hero than a new Evo, but that's me.

How so? Aren't they similary spec'ed?

Evo, m'eh. Still not impressive to me. Call me back when the screen is a bit smaller (I'm not 6'2" w/ bear claws), the HDMI output is more functional; camera records h.264 1080p video at a respectable 30p+ fps, and the WiMax is replaced w/ LTE. Oh yeah, no obligatory 4G surcharges, just bundle it into the plan so I don't have to see it.

Saw some quad scores on xda...Optimus scores way better.

How that relates to ACTUAL performance.....

The good news is, CES is now officially less than 30 days away.
I'm picking up an Evo (which I'd be going with anyway if I wasn't anticipating a new generation launching very soon) just to get off this Hero masochism, and if CES brings us an announcement of wonderful prizes in the near future, I'm just gonna return the hulk and reactivate the Hero until the new hotness is in my hands :)

What is it with Sprint & their physical keyboards?? GRRR!!
Sprint just announced the Knight/Speedy/Evo Jr....whatever they've decided to call it, with a slide out keyboard. HOW FREAKING FRUSTRATING!!!! I know there are people out there that prefer the physical keyboard. Good for them, what about the rest of us? I don't understand why it's necessary to make 99% of the new phones with a physical keyboard.
Ok, now that I'm done with that rant, I'll throw in my .02 worth also! I am SO tempted to get the Optimus S, especially bec it's free at Best Buy all month long. But I just know as soon as I do they're going to announce something bigger...scratch that....BETTER! It's the freakin holidays & Sprint is sitting on their behinds saying "Have an Evo...Have an Epic". Meanwhile Verizon is looking like Santa Claus, new phones announced every other day, WITHOUT physical keyboards!! I guess you pick & choose....good rates & plans but crappy selection of phones or high rates, crappy plans but a great selection of phones.
