if verizon gets iphone, will you leave droid?

I have a MacBook Pro, an iMac, an iPod Touch, an old PowerBook, and am about to get a Mac Pro.

I don't need an iPhone. I love my Droid. The only thing I DON'T like about my Droid is that it _DOESN'T_ sync with my MBP. If anybody has a fix for that, I'd appreciate it.

I generally don't believe in having a business-critical device such as a mobile phone or laptop computer that I can't remove the battery from myself. Since my iPod isn't business-critical, I take my chances.

Yes, I would. before I get bashed, my reasons are simple. I like the interface, and like the corporate apps, such as Chase Bank, DirecTV (not superfan, the one that sets your DVR), MLB At Bat (coming to Android, but not live video like iPhone has), and etrade. It just seems that corporate usa will make any app for the iPhone, and some of these may come to android, but the fact of the matter is more than likely no.

another huge one for me is Mint. I know they keep saying it's coming out for Android, but I still have not seen it. I find it to be the best budgeting application on any device, and it's FREE.

I love my droid. Had the iPhone, hated ATT. I would welcome a Verizon iPhone with open arms simply for the fact of the apps that fit my lifestyle.

Droid is great. But outside of web browsing, I don't have the need for most of the apps they offer at this time.

Well, not so sure it will be that soon. The Iphone for verizon would have to be a complete redesign for CDMA. Just not sure they will do it. But, I can see them doing it when verizon rolls out their 4g/lte network in late 2010 since 4G LTE will be common across many carriers in the near future.

Either way I wouldn't trade my droid. I like having the keyboard, i like the open dev environment, and I like the OS in general. The only benefit to me of an iphone to me right now is the advanced gaming apps, but these will be coming to the droid soon.

unless they finally start letting you store apps on an sd card, i don't see how android will get any 3d games. can you enlighten me please?

no, i just sold my iDont to get a droid, everyone at my job has one
(iDont), its just...blah, my droid does what i want it to do... work, no jailbreking to make this phone cool, just a few apps, and im good. and did i mention the network is more reliable, not a single dropped call, all calls are clear, i love it!!

droidx - the question was if it came to verizon. That would be the same network you are on now.

The only way is if android phones are released with hard drives, like the iPhone or if they ran off of SD cards, which seems unlikely seeing how they don't even offer that option as of now.

There is no direct proof Android will get 3D games. Just internet babble. For me that is irrelevant, I don't play games on my phone, but I do understand some people do.

Let me ask this. Outside of multi tasking, what do you guys feel android currently offers over the iPhone?

I'm being serious, not a smart A. I'm truly interested in seeing examples rather than, iDont comments.

I'll start. Things I like on the droid: I love having the widgets running, while always on gtalk. I love the browser and being able to save images with a simple long press. I like the integrated google voice. For me, that's about it so far. Simply because every other app I use is available on a lot of phones, like facebook etc.

I already stated my iPhone reasons. The mainstream apps just are not there on the Android platform yet with a few exceptions. I can live without constantly being logged in to gtalk, and the browser is equally as good (and also can save images). iPhone also has the bar scanning price apps now as well, which I do use a lot on my Droid.

I realize many of you may NEED multi tasking. I really don't need that.

This isn't really an apple v.s Android OS thing for me, it's more about the application development. I won't question the android OS has a way higher ceiling... the question is, will the quality apps come out.

I wont use a Chase Bank app made by a 3rd party. Or an eTrade app for that matter. I want it made and endorsed by the bank and the trading company. I do not trust unauthorized financial applications nor should anyone.

I am a long time Android user. I had the G1 with Tmobile the first day it came out. The apps have not followed. That is my issue. People can tell me "they will", or "give it time"... but Android OS has been out for what, three years now? Yes Android has a lot of apps but let's be frank, most of them are 3rd party horrible applications.

I think many people think Android is brand spanking new, and that simply is not the case.

I agree with everyone's comments on ATT network, but the question is if it came to Verizon.

Where is an official ESPN app for android? Yahoo IM? AOL IM? They aren't there. FaceBook is a much lesser quality. I haven't been able to update a FB pic in weeks without getting 3 errors first before it finally goes through.

I am sure I'll get more "I hate the iDont", etc... but I would really love to see more solid reasons.

That being said, I respect everyone's reply and look forward to them.

I'll start. Things I like on the droid:

You stated you liked the Android widgets, but you saw no value in multitasking. Well, in order for widgets to function as they do, that my friend is multitasking!

After using widgets and in particular, location based widgets, it instantly became clear how superior Android is to the iPhone's OS. There simply is no comparison.

Second, the same 4x5 icon screens on the iPhone are the most boring thing on the planet. Consistent I'll give it, but absolutely boring. I've had an iPod Touch for years and while its a great "iPod", it doesn't totally suit my daily needs.

Third, the Android OS is truly customizable and you are actually allowed to replace ANY app on it with what you deem best. That's right, you can replace the browser with something else should you want to. Want a different home screen to suit your needs, go ahead and install. Nobody is locking you out of applications unless you "jail break" your phone. Wait until Sweeter Home is out of beta! Talk about the next innovative thing for the smart phone...and no, Apple didn't "invent" it.

I do agree somewhat with the apps to an extent. Every app I used daily on my iPod Touch had the same app, same vendor, available for Android. And besides looking and functioning exactly the same, the AP news app is actually faster on Android that on the iPod Touch. I do agree that some other apps are not available at this time but given the momentum behind Android, this will come with time. After all, most of the best apps on the Apple market where not there from the get-go either. When the Android platform is everywhere, on every network with dozens of phones, devs will start opening their eyes if they haven't already. Its not going away and will take a bite out of Apple.

I am sure I'll get more "I hate the iDont", etc... but I would really love to see more solid reasons.

That being said, I respect everyone's reply and look forward to them.

I consider Android superior for the following reasons:

1. Ability to install almost anything without rooting.
2. Of course the multitasking which you mentioned already.
3. UI - I prefer Android's over the iPhone's. I never did like the way Apple organized the UI, reminds me a little of OSX - I think it sucks plain and simple.

4. Google's Apps: There are really no iPhone equivalent to Google Nav, Google Talk or Google Sky to name a few. And the navigation available on the iPhone for free isn't great. I also don't feel like paying to get decent Nav. I know there's a sky map app for the iPhone but it doesn't use the compass. I've played with it and it doesn't come close to Google Sky.

5. Free Apps: IMO, there seems to be more decent free apps for Android than the iPhone. The equivalents of what I have on my Droid are paid apps on the iPhone. Wifi Analyzer is a good example. Barcode Scanner is another. Pro Zoom Camera app yet another.

I DON'T CARE ABOUT POLISH. HOW AN APP LOOKS TO ME IS LARGELY IRRELEVANT. I know that's a big deal to many but I'm not that into looks.

6. Itunes: I hate Itunes with a passion and Apple forces everyone to use that garbage. I believe the alternatives do work with the iPhone but to get updates, install apps or sync, one is forced to use itunes for the most part. I'm sure there are ways completely around it but Apple does not make it simple.

7. Hardware: The newer Android phones match the iPhone in hardware and in many instances surpasses it. Now this may change soon but I simply don't care. The iPhone's screen is no match for the Droid's. And now that I've gotten used to the physical keyboard (been using it more and more), I find it hard to not have one available. Also, there is little excuse for not having a removable battery. The laughable excuses I read from the iPhone fanboys don't cut it. I like to know I can remove the battery for whatever reason without having to send it in or visit a store.

Lastly:
8. Apple: I hate Apple. Hated them and their producs for a long, long time. I really don't know how or why I got suckered into buying a 3g when I did but I consider that a learning experience. I guess I just wasn't patient.

So there you go, those are my reasons for rejecting the iPhone and choosing Android.

Multi-tasking is much more of a joy on my Droid and previous phones than on the iPhone. My previous smartphones were windows mobile and multi-tasking is just a way of life for me, even if i did have to manage memory on my own.

Android seems to be going in the direction I want my smartphone to go.

I have nothing against Apple. I have an iPod and I like it thank you. I don't like the proprietary connector, or the lack of removable battery, but I tolerate that because managing my 15000 mp3 into smart playlists is done easiest and cleanest for me with iTunes and most easily navigated on the iPod.

I will consider iPhone when it comes to VZW, but I certainly won't be jumping on some bandwagon for it. It will have to offer the things I value in a smartphone and combine that with what I value in my iPod. If it does that, it will be the perfect device for me and I'll buy it. Otherwise, it's just another phone on the shelf to choose from the next time I go to upgrade.

Everyone has an iPhone. Why would you want one?

Plus it would be the 4g.

Apple-iPhone-4G.jpg

I don't like the look of that.

Well, that is obviously fake! Apple employees don't even know what a new device looks like before the public. There is NO WAY a new iphone leaked. They are WAY too protected for that!

Plus, why would they use the same screen image as the last one?

I'm calling total BS on this one!
