Help X10 2.1 Update - Issues/Problems

i got the same prob, help!

Arrrgh!! I have the same problem as well... looked over the pages and I couldn't see any 'direct' replied! Can anyone help?

I was told that it 'might' be a SD car issue? And I should either use a fresh/ empty one (not tried it yet) or format the one I have (as well as restering my current version back to factory settings and uninstalling all the apps I/ we have!?!?!? But before I do this, does anyone know how to solve this???

Thanks!

Just got the 2.1 update and it's alright... but I really like the old version :/

Anyway, with the old 1.6 firmware I could never go over 2 text messages in one text, if that makes sense? I was hoping that in the update they would fix this... however now I can't even go over 1 message, if i send 2 messages in one it won't send?

Does anyone know if this is an ongoing problem or just one that I'm having with my phone? Also any ideas if this is fixable!

Cheers guys n gals :D

I get neither H nor 3g above my antenna..... Any way to check if the update messed up something with my mobile data connection?

I have this problem too, on vodafone uk. Sometimes I can't send texts even tho I can receive them. Can't connect to internet without wi-fi.

1 week since the update and it still lags. Does live wallpaper affect this?

On the plus side, the contacts is better! I noticed someone mention you can't auto-link with facebook if someone changes their name. Someone on my twitter timeline changed their name and it auto-fixed. Hmm

Also, although I've not tried recording yet, when using the camera view finder the image didn't seem as crisp. anyone else tested this yet?

I really hoped for so much more for this update but it seems like it's brought all new problems to add to what we had and not fixed any of our issues.

Hi, it sounds like you've updated to 2.1 on Vodafone, is that correct as I'm still waiting for them to release it!

I have. Last Saturday I got a message on the phone saying there's an update available (I have auto updates selected). If you want to update, make sure PC companion is updated first and then it'll tell you it's available. HOWEVER I'm having problems connecting to the Internet without wireless and I can't even get juice defender set up. At the moment, the only pros are the ones I already mentioned, but personally I think the network connection outweighs them. I'm just about to try a reinstall to try and fix this!

Hi there,

I debranded my handset and put the 2.1 update on my x10 last week and everything was working fine in fact better than ever,

I could actually send messages that had over 3 pages long not like on the 1.6 firmware however came to write a message 2 pages long last night and it won't send!!

So is there anyway I can fix this, I understand sms stands for "short messaging service" But most of my txts go over 2 pages long.

I'm in the Uk and using the standard messaging app.
Although saying that I did try the app handcent sms but still no joy :(

Regards Gaz

I find it doesnt track as well. like from home screen left to right or right to left, it seems catchy or skiddish. also I like the pull up app tray and not the touch to show button at the bottom

Same here. I think it lags on the home screen and preferred the slide up tray, which I keep doing out of habit now lol

On a positive note, after re-installing the OS (still 2.1) I've now got my network settings back and get H/3G (hurray!) So I can go online if I'm out or simply receive texts!

One thing I have noticed though, is sometimes when receiving Twitter messages via text, it seems to truncate them into 3 messages even tho they're 140 characters or less, and they don't even come in the right order most of the time. I wonder if this is handcent, though I didn't have this problem till a couple of days ago. Hmm

Also, earlier on, I was playing about with the brightness button that was added, I must admit that on 100% it is MUCH brighter than 1.6, but I've got it switched off as I can still see fine.

In 1.6 I could install any theme by replacing framework-res.apk!
But in 2.1 I can't install nothing!! :(
My phone is rooted by z4root
I checked these methods:

  • use root explorer
  • use cmd and adb command
  • use X10mod software

when I want to replace the theme, Immediately after doing that my phone is reset.

X10iUser managed to develop a theme that worked with 2.1 using I think Chewitts installer. Perhaps you could try that?

Ok,
I updated mine from 1.6 to 2.1 yesterday. I have to say I am kinda disappointed. I only got the phone in Aug. and it took me forever to learn everything about it (I still don't, lol).
My main problems with the change is that I lost all my text messages (my fam is long distance, and I save all my pic msgs).
I lost ALL my apps.. only my phone book/pics/music transferred.
I miss the 'slide' to unlock, although I have figured out I can still slide the same way I used to, not straight across to unlock it...BUT the screen does not always lock anymore, and will simply turn back on by pressing the middle button on the bottom (I affectionately call it the "square" key LOL)
I don't like how I cannot "exit" the browser, but I was happy to see that it will not use data while running in the background...
I understand I may sound like a "whiner", but I am not meaning to. I LOVE this phone, but I am thinking that I might go back to 1.6. I have not found very much of a benefit to the switch... it's not "ultra cool" or anything, lol
I still can't play flash games on certain websites (ie. facebook) and for the first hour I had it, my camera didn't work. My video seems to have worse quality now (although I never checked if the settings were different).

My biggest question right now is: If I go back to 1.6, will my phone go back to "normal"?
Maybe if I am more prepared, instead of updating on a 'whim', I can appreciate this more...

I also asked a question on this forum: http://androidforums.com/x10-all-things-root/186006-new-guy-what-rooting-please.html#post1907345
If anyone can help?

contacts in the stock phonebook have disappeared - only my number in it. However i downloaded phonebook 2.0 app and all my contacts are still there.

There seems to be a problem with the stock phonebook. I dont sync contacts with google or facebook. Can anyone tell me what is the problem and how to fix. Is it something to do with groups maybe?

It's easy, connect to PC Companion again and click on the update button. It will say you already have the latest version, but will ask you if you want to repair. Click on the repair button and the steps are the EXACT same as the 1st update.

This should backup texts, calls etc. It is supposed to backup apps as well but I found I had to reinstall them and many of them were missing from the download list in the Market. I also use an app called Lookout to backup. You can also backup texts via messaging, this allows to save to the memory card.

Download an app called contact2sim. This will allow you to copy from sim card to phone and vice versa. There's also an app called contact analyser 2 that will delete duplicate numbers. I found the phonebook copied my numbers twice! lol

I'd also recommend to everyone an app called App Brain, which is a quick way to find lots of different apps available on the market.

Can some one help me shed soem light on this problem i have got. I updated my software last night from 1.6 to 2.1. Looks good etc the only problem i have got is that when i go to my phonebook i have got no entries whatso ever. If i got my call log i have got numbers and names assigned to those numbers, if i go to my messages i have numbers and names but still nothing in phone book. If i go into the delete contact menu all my contacts are there and the they are there if i go to write a text aswell. How do i get to view them in my phonebook or contact list? Has anybody else had this problem?

also when i go into delete contacts and it shows me my contacts it says joined contact? What does this mean

And another - Where have all my previous apps gone. It said i would have links to them but dont know where to find them

Sorry, it's under the "support zone" section. Click on start, then go to "update" it should then say you have the latest version, if you would like to continue, click here.

T3RBO: Contacts and Phonebook is the same thing. :)

Ok, for ALL THOSE ASKING ABOUT MISSING CONTACTS. Did you remember to backup everything before you did the update? This is asked of you as everything is wiped when doing a big update (especially as this was operating system and not firmware). If you had the contacts on your sim card, follow the steps I posted above. If you don't have a backup, then you're screwed!

This goes the same with missing apps, for those who have lost apps. Hope this helps!
