Xperia X10 Problem: Receivers (at other end) hearing sharp noise emitted by X10 during calls:

thanks to you all.. still on 1.6 and very strange issue because with very random pattern, I can talk minutes with no issue then others get a spot noise similar to wind getting to my microphone, it happen using BT handfree too, like said, randomly of one second duration. Hope for the miracle with 2.1 if not I will wait a lot then try to test a new unit.. sadly because my is just well customized with all- more or less- working.. just tried reinstalling software to factory settings with no results too.

i think i'm going to be hugely unpopular after I post this, but I was experiencing the above mentioned banging noise ever since i got my phone around 5 months ago.

However after i updated to 2.1, it seems the noise issue has been solved? I keep asking people that i talk to on the phone to tell me if they hear any noises (and they have in the past so i think they would be familiar with which type of noise). So far so good...

Just hope this problem doesn't magically reappear just after my 1 year warranty expires =/.

Unbranded phone purchased in Hong Kong.

I also have 2.1 and I can hear my callers fine but the receivers are hearing me go through a bag or something. What I found out is that when you rub the back of the phone when on a call it is very sensitive and the receiver will hear that noise. Its definitely a hardware issue. Someone please find a fix I love my phone but do not want this issue.

Yeah, hopefully. I spoke today to the same friend (who normally hears the noises) for about ten minutes, and when I asked him, he said that not only had the noises gone, but the general sound quality of my voice was a lot clearer than when he'd talked to me before the 2.1 update.

It's an early litmus test for me, but so far, so good...

(Originally on Vodafone UK - now debranded and rooted with 2.1 (obviously))

I suggest to always use a microphone when using skype or speaking to anyone over a net call.

Good bluetooth headsets have background noise cancelation. What can happen is the noise that comes out the speaker is amplified back into the microphone...but I think that it is a lot more than that. Well that and you can read more about it here:

Audio Problem Xperia X10 - Skype Community

I must share the same problem here with perhaps further information. I tested the phone Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 (Android version 2.1 und 2.2.1) with the latest Android Skype Version with the following countries (my location is Austria):

  • - Austria
    - France
    - Hungary
    - Romania
    - USA
In each case the user was logged to a computer and (in the same network) to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 as well.

From Smartphone (me) to Computer (other end of the line) works OK. You can understand the other person perfectly talking and the person understand you (quality 80% - 90%).

[Smartphone2Smartphone]
When you have a conversation from smartphone to smartphone then you get to hear background noises. Just like a bad movie sound recorded by a cheep camera

(quality 20%-30% or less)
I also tested Android Skype throw WiFi (WLAN) and 3G -> both cases the same quality as above.

Try from Wifi and see if it is any better or if it is the same as 3g?

In the dozens of threads I read elsewhere no one mentions trying a microphone...not sure if it will help or not...but now that I have read more, it looks like it might be an audio issue with skype and how they work with some phones.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

I am having the same problem with my xperia x10 also..every time i call my sister and put her on speaker phone, she complains about loud static sound on her end but i can hear her clearly, but if i turn off speakerphone, then she can hear me just fine...it's really annoying, would like to be able to use the speaker without a problem.

I have exactly the same problem as retxperia. I have Firmware 2.1 and using the X10 in the Netherlands with the Vodafone network. Has anyone found a solution or a reasson for this problem?

Read what I suggested above.

Always works better when one of the Skype users isn't using 3g (wired or wireless connection to 3G)

End task on all other apps before calling.

First ideal test is when one person is on a wired computer and the x10 is connected to a wireless network (not 3G) try that first. If that works ok....try other things that have been listed in this thread.
