Codes to enter the programming menu can be found here:
How to Increase Droid X Call Quality

Relevant EVRC-B settings are under NAM CDMA Settings on the Incredible

I myself am not experiencing the call quality issue, so I can't vouch for the results. Link above indicates it may cause extra drain on battery. I used this same code years ago on a Samsung "dumb" phone and it did wonders for call quality and I did not notice a difference in battery life. YMMV.

Yeah, this has been posted a bunch of times for the Dinc, but make sure before you do it that you are in a major metro area or you can experience a loss in the ability to make calls...period. VZW's entire network is not EVRC-B capable, so just be aware of how to switch back if necessary.

it changes the format of the voice data being sent to the cell tower. if the tower and the phone both support evrc-B then you will get better quality calls (less drops, less cutting out in the middle of words, ect.)
if the tower does not support this format and only supports evrc then you will not be able to make calls at all.
most places have evrc-b already, but you should keep a note to yourself on your phone so that you can switch it back if you happen to be in an area that does not support evrc-b.

Since this is about the Droid HTC incredible.... I thought I would put specific instructions for it.

Someone please let me know if a HTC veteran doesn't recommend changing all 3 settings.... my real experience thus far has only been with the moto droid and it worked great.

Below is for the HTC incredible

1. Dial "##program" (##7764726) and press send. Enter code "000000"
2. Go to NAM CDMA SETTINGS
3. SCROLL down to "preferred Voice Service option for home page" set to EVRC-B, hit ok
4. Next go to "Preferred voice service option for home origination" set to EVRC-B, hit ok
5. Next go to "Preferred voice service option for Roam Origination" set to EVRC-B, hit ok.
6. Now pic "menu" at the bottom, then choose "commit modifications" on bottom.
7. Device will reboot after 10 seconds.

This is a higher level speech codec used by CDMA networks introduced by 3GPP2 based on 4GV concept and is the newest and most advanced codex for cellular applications. Your phone will reset after you apply and exit.

I've ran it a few days now... I like it.... once at about 2am I lost all connectivity... but I think they were working on the network.. I was mobile.
I had to change it back to basic EVRC to get connectivity back.. but then when I changed it back to EVRC-B I still kept signal..... so what gives?....

I must assume they were working on things...

Anyway... I do feel the voice quality is better... similiar to downloading and playing a low quality mp3 verses a high.
Just more solid and strong "thicker".
