I've been an Incredible owner since the day it was released, and I like the phone. But yesterday I saw a friend's Fascinate, and I'm considering going to it. I haven't been able to find anything with direct comparisons between the 2 phones. Has anyone here owned both and what's your opinion?

Thanks in advance.

ive owned both and a droid x and i find myself prefering the fascinate.

the incredible was a great phone but coming from the x the screen was way too small for me. the fascinate is great for me.....but......i root/rom/kernel my phone.

stock out of the box fasincate is "laggy" and has bad gps.

id go into a more in depth comparison that that little tidbit but im off for the day. im sure others can give you some feedback as well.

I currently own both. I've had the dinc since launch and rooted, rimmed etc

I use the fascinate as my daily driver. This screen is fantastic!!!!
i loved my zinc screen but no comparison.

I also agree with the mentioned lag out of the box. In fact for a few days (got fascinate oct 1st) i wasn't sure if would keep using this daily. But after some mods rims kernels. I wont go back.

I love this phone. Once froyo gets here with some more custom rims i will love it more.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I currently have the Droid X , Droid Incredible, Fascinate, and Droid 2 Global White. Out of the box all of the Droids are preferable to the Fascinate unless you plan on rooting. Out of the box the Fascinate has quite a bit of lag even with alternate launchers such as ADW and Launcher Pro. The GPS on the Fascinate is a crap shoot, some work ok but many don't. I have also found call quality and signal strength to be better on all the Droids as well.

There is supposed to be a new update to rectify the Fascinate issues that should be coming out soon but I would wait and see if the update does in fact rectify the issues before you try it out. Also keep in mind that all the Droids run Android 2.2 but the Fascinate is running Android 2.1 and we don't really know when the Fascinate will be getting the 2.2 update.

I jumped Dawn. I wished i hadn't. I have had the D1, the INC, and now the samsaung fascinate. the INC for me was the best of the bunch. great call clarity, super 3g coverage, and a great radio for signal. My fascinate has sidetone and reverb when talking (i can hear myself in the earpiece), and terrible 3g and radio. It is however much snappier running games, and has a very perfectly balanced screen, compared to the candy bar size of the INC. it is just the right size imo. However, I personally liked HTC's sense compared to samsungs touchwiz, or whatever it is called. i dunno....maybe i have a lemon of a fascinate. if we ever get 2.2, which is supposed to fix all this, ill find out. good luck!

Fascinate is better, but that's not the question. If you already have an acceptable phone, you might as well wait till the next generation: dual-cores.

It's defective. Get a new one.

I tried. they would not let me. I bought a friends upgrade. He bought the phone and I activated it on my account. They said that it was not new to "me", so no trading. I have Insurance on it, but i was hoping the 2.2. was going to fix some issues. You think i should pony up the $90 for a refurb from asurian?

I came from the DInc as well and I had a hard timing warming up to the Fascinate mainly because I was used to all the 2.2 custom roms and such. I also liked Sense better then Touchwiz. When I came over to the Fascinate, there wasn't much for ROMs and 2.1 was killing me because I used ChromeToPhone alot with my DInc.

However, I'm now running DJ05 and the phone is very snappy and the battery lasts a decent time.

Basically, when you get the fascinate you'll start getting the itch to get your DInc back as you'll miss some of the HTC and Froyo stuff, but once you root, kernal and rom... then give yourself the 1-2 weeks to adjust.. you'll love the Fascinate and then be hitting these boards looking for the leaked Froyo to post!

Thank you all for your input thus far. I never rooted my DInc. Never felt like I had to. I had the Droid Eris and did root it, but traded up for the DInc before I really played with it much.

I read the forums a lot....but never really read much about rooting, kernal and rom. What's the difference in the 3?

Coming from an HTC Incredible, here is the reason I liked the Fascinate better:

  • Bigger screen
  • Super AMOLED
  • Support for up to 5 simultaneous touches (HTC Inc. only had a gimped 2 when I had it)
  • GPU
  • Superior camera, superior picture quality. Fascinate's 5MP and CMOS is much nicer than Inc's 8MP CrapMOS.

But this is what I miss:

  • HTC widgets
  • Inc's Exchange Email, Fascinate's is ugly and feature-lacking.
  • Inc's screen has a slightly lower friction coefficient
  • Lowest brightness setting on Inc was much better in the dark, Fascinate's is still a tad on the bright side

What I didn't know until I got the Fascinate:

  • Better battery life than the Incredible
  • A bug that I love where the lower four buttons backlight turns off quickly (though this will be taken away with an upcoming update)
  • A bug that I love where an enforced Exchange password only prompts me maybe 1-2 times a day instead of on every unlock.

In terms of rooting and ROMs and themes, I found no real difference in difficulty between the two.
