Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

Geez..so silly of me, it worked :). Thanks.

I have applied advanced ext4 plus using autokiller with settings 70,80,90..what are yours? Also, any idea how to get the voodoo colour fix...?

Mine is set to aggressive. I'm not sure about colour fix. I think that's only available if you flash this Discuss about Project Voodoo / lagfix, color - xda-developers

Well I have looked around in the forum but couldnt find an answer to my (stupid) query.so here goes..

I want to install .apk files from PC to my phone. Simple. So I follow these steps

1. Connect through the 'Mass storage' mode
2. Open up the drive displayed in the computer
3. From a bunch of folder displayed in the drive, I choose SDCard and open it
4. I copy the .apk files to this folder.
5. Launch Astro file manager from my phone and scroll down to SDCard folder
6. Nothing!!.. the entire folder is empty. I cant even see all the folder that I can see on my pc.

Note: I have not rooted or done any other mods to my phone.

I dont think that astro requires the phone to be rooted. Please let me know what am i doing wrong

Thanks

no need to use Astro..default file manager of phone is too good if u have not rooted phone. use default file manager and single tap on .apk file it will auto install....thats it.

You have two choice. Either copy the efs folder to your sdcard directly using a file manager (root explorer, EStrong file manager, Astro, etc.), or pull it to your computer using adb commands. (Kalpik prefers to extract the efs folder as a compressed file instead. No idea why.)

I am using Astro, but cant find any efs folder.... Could u please tell me the exact location..
And how to use adb commands??
Also how can i do it with kalpiks method??

Kalpik's method: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s/104468-samsung-galaxy-s-indian-thread-19.html#post1367506

His method is actually adb as well. Just google for adb tutorial. You need to download the android developer kit first. (Again, google for that).

The efs is in the root folder. I have yet to find a good explanation for where that is. You cannot access the root folder using the default "My file" app. But neither do you needed a rooted phone. Astro or EStrong will do the job. If you are using Astro, when you enter the app, press "up" twice. If you are using EStrong, press the "/" button on the top left. That will take you to the root folder.

Ok. I don't want to flash another ROM and I heard that voodoo lag fix doesn't work with froyo, and unfortunately, there usa no separate colour fix.

One thing I really liked about the colour fix was the ultra low brightness and much better auto brightness control. I didn't find my phone to have an extreme bluish tint though, plus the fixed tint was less playing to eye.

It seems one of the biggest problems with this froyo Rom is that I have very little available memory.Even when I kill most of my normal tasks, the free memory is only, 89-110 as opposed to 150-160 in my eclair.

Sounds funny, because froyo was supposed to support the full 512 mb(340 available to user? ) ram. And I can confirm that swype is awful in this ROM.(going to change to 2.6.47 now)

Cann anyone hello me regarding the low Ram? (I had to recreate the autokiller settings because it was closing opera, periodically, even though I was using it. )

You are in luck. The latest Doc's froyo (BUJP8 v9) uses Hardcore's K9A! Both were updated yesterday.

I just flashed it, I got 341MB available RAM. My free RAM is at 167MB. Although the phone has 512MB RAM, part of it are reserved for the system. It has been debated in xda-developers.

Plus it got sharpness and colour fix from voodoo that you wanted! I didn't check whether the previous ones have got this or not :p There's a minor issue in swype that seems fixed too.

Go ahead and flash BUJP8 v9 and let us know how it turned out.

I use ES file explorer. Samsung's Myfiles is too bland and it cannot transfer files wirelessly between my desktop's shared folder and my phone.

After much deliberation and waiting for official Indian Froyo, I have decided to go for DOC_Kalpik's ROM; but I have a few questions (please note that I am totally new to flashing ROMs and this will be my first attempt.)

1. Which among the 4 would be the best ROM:
BUJP8 v9
XWJPA: V 8
XXJPO: V 8
ADJP5 BareBone .1

2. I am currently on stock Eclair DDJG4, so can I flash the ROM directly without having to worry abt the /system corruption or I will still have to do the fix for the /system corruption?

3. If something goes wrong during flashing or for some reason I want to go back to stock eclair, can I restore back to the rom that I have backed up using ROM Manager?

hi guys one question

does android requires internet to run??

one of my frnd told me that android requires net and so u require a data plan with internet

is this true ?? i mean cant we stop the device to use net

if u can make unlimited national and interantional cals without getting charged only then il belive that a fone will browse internet without havin anet package.......

comeon the whole idea of an internet package is to give u net access at affordable price.....

if u develope an engine that can replace the current fuel comsumptioncars or some thing that gives hypothically better average do you know the first people who'll take the knowledge ......need a guess

Hey, that's great. :)..unfortunately don't have net at home. So, don't know when I can try it.

I'm facing a ton of problems with this Rom.
Firstly, voice search is not working. For eg. Navigate to delhi would do a search in google with that query.

Another doubt, how do you install the aosp lockscreen.zip file and doc theme.zip files etc? I tried going to recovery mode and then installing zip from sd card.didn't work.

Now, when opening the camera, a white background us shown, but any pics taken come fine.

Also, the swype 2.6.47 installation didn't go smoothly, on landscape mode, it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Heya,

You need the internet connection to link your Android phone to your GMail account(create a new one if you don't already have a GMail ID). I'm not quite sure whether that's a compulsory step or not, I already had a data connection active and it's been a while :)

Also, you can't take full advantage of Android unless you have a data connection. You get pretty good ones at Rs.95/month for 6GB (GPRS - Tata Docomo) , Rs.98/month for 2GB(Vodafone/Idea/Airtel), and now that 3G's round the corner, you could go for a 3G connection.
If you, or a friend, have a WiFi router/laptop, you could use that connection! :)
