Here I have a problem in the massage type. The keyboard is available is too small and tight so I often mistakenly press the letter stated. I have seen applications for HTC keyboard type, but it is same as before.:( Here I want to ask for help from you if there is an application for a larger keyboard for easy typing my massage. Howdy,

I've read through quite a few post on here this afternoon, but can’t seem to find a definitive answer.

I updated my phone on Monday (I'm assuming from 1.6 to 2.1, is there any way of telling?) and all of my contacts have gone. I did the whole back stuff, but the restore didn't work.

Is there any way I can get these contacts back, or am I going to have to manually input them for the 3rd time since purchasing this phone?

They weren't backed up anywhere else as I assumed the backup and restore would do its job.

Am I the only one on the planet who doesn't have a faulty X10? lol :)

kevmars: I don't know how else to restore the contacts, you may have to do this manually. (Same thing for Smokey_Barr) Also, the "joined contact" is to link contacts together, e.g. when the phonebook imports facebook and twitter contacts you can add to existing phonenumbers... Very handy unless, like me you have 2 friends with identical names and it gets confused and you have to seperate them! lol

Smokey_Barr: I dunno why the backup and restore didn't work for you, the only problem I had with it was apps not being backed up, though that's only on 2.1, they should've still been on my market download list!

Alfa: I'm assuming you mean "message" and not "massage" lol Have you tried using the phone horizontally to type? I find this makes the keyboard a bit bigger and gives more options for predictive. Alternatively, you can pm me for shapewriter, which is similar to swype.

If you've lost your contacts, and don't have them on sim I can't think of any other ideas other than to manually put them in again. For some reason the tech-heads of the forum have all gone A.W.O.L!

I also found no contacts after install, however they are there.

I found if you do not do the google sync account sdt up account option on setup after install then you will see all your contacts as normal. After doing the googlemail sync it wants to display the sync'd contacts instead which there are none of for me and doesn't allow me to see my normal contacts.

This update is far from perfect, I have a few different bugs. my texts are not sending either above one message. I spoke to Vodafone and they want to replace the phone lol as they think it's faulty. I wish someone at Vodafone actually knew about the software they were talking about, or were even remotely in too or interested on whats on their computer screen in front of them!!

The first thing I did after upgrading was to try and restore my contacts from backup-Restore as the instructions stated.... Nothing.

Syncing with Google was my last option, and most of the contacts that were synced were old, or didn't have telephone numbers, just email addresses.

It just pisses me off when they run you through these instructions and they're not correct. If I needed to updated my back-up and Restore to a newer version (as some have posted) the instructions should have stated this. I get the impression the geeks at Sony just assume I should know this.

Granted it's a new phone, with a new operating system, and I myself am new to Androids phones, but I've had nothing but grief from the damn thing since I upgraded 2 weeks ago, and if things don

Since the update I have been unable to play any music I downloaded from the PlayNow service, and the phone says "Error. No Licence. File can be deleted." With the 2 selectable options being Delete and Cancel. I haven't deleted any of the files as I don't want to lose my music.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and does anyone have a solution?

Ok then wha about when you view a contact you hav two identical numbers for them. Does this mean thati have imported the twice or restored themtwice

I had duplicates too (even 3 times!) As mentioned above, use Contact analyser and this will delete the duplicates!

Smokey_Barr: You didn't do anything wrong, there isn't an update to Backup & restore, they just added that app as part of the 2.1 update instead of manually downloading it from PlayNow.

Why oh Why did they have to tinker with it?

Sony, if it's not broke then don't try to fix it!

I have just downloaded the new update and now my 3G has changed to H above the signal bar and I can't make or receive calls or texts, the Internet only works on wifi too..was fine before the update.?! can anyone please help?

The H is fine, it's better than 3G. However, I had this problem too after the update. I had to reinstall the update with PC companion, just follow the steps I posted above! :)

Think i have cracked the address book bug that i have had an some others have had. If you reset your phone to factory settings and avoid settign up a google account when asked, then restore the back up that you should have made this will sort the problem out. Although when you go to download from the market you will have to setup you google account, do this and the contacts disappar again. I have managed to get round this aswell but will have to update on here how to do it when i get home. Also with the new update how do you link a contact through the phonebook to facebook as looking through the edit cintact option there isnt a field to select a link? Can anybody shed some light on this please. Thanks for all the help so far and i will post on any updates that i have for the help recieved

All bets are off re finding my backed up contacts, I'm just going to do it manually, for the third time (granted the initial fault lied with BlackBerry).

What I want to know is, what is the best way of backing these contacts up once I've input them?

I assume if I sync with Google, the current contacts in my google account will just wipe my new manually (for the third time) installed ones. How do I get the manually (for the third time) contacts into my google contacts, as the X10 seems so hell bent on syncing from google...??

I'm sure this task was a hell of a lot easier back in the days of the Nokia 3310 ffs!!

The 'H' isn't an issue, from what I've read on the web and these forums, it's a good thing.

I'm pretty sure I hade the same problem earlier this week. I left it an hour or so, and it seemed to sort it's self out.

I did the same with my Market downloads. Maybe the 'wait and it'll sort itself out' has replaced the 'turn it off and back on'?

This was the exact same problem I had. Read my previous posts re reinstalling the update.

kevmars: Go to phonebook > settings > accounts & sync. This should allow you to sync both Facebook and twitter.

After reading your post I realised that I skipped the Google account sync and did it later, which is probably how i never had the problem.

Smokey_Barr: I use an app called Lookout. That backs up contacts and other date and also comes in hand if you lose your phone.

For those wondering about the "H" it's for HDSA, which according to Wikipedia is like 3.5G, so should be quicker data transfer :)

Whitegrongo: That sounds like a problem I had. When I pressed the power button, the screen would go black but when I pressed the home button it came back on without asking me to unlock 1st. This happened when I got a message for a sim network pin. I assumed it meant my normal pin number, but that was incorrect and when I cancelled I had that problem. This was also fixed when I did the reinstall to fix the network issue. Funnily enough, I got that message again today when I came out of work and took my phone off flight mode. This time I just ignored it and switched my phone off and on again.

Ok, not sure how to help everyone with the Contacts/Phonebook problems (I had similar problems with the doubling/tripping of contacts etc... but I just sucked it up and fixed them all manually... then proceeded to backing them up via Gmail. I think if they're linked to Gmail account, you greatly reduce your chances of losing them. Plus you can access them from ANYWHERE! Always a plus!)...

BUT! For all of you with network problems... I'm with Rogers. I upgraded last weekend and everthing was fine (besides missing a few 1.6 features like others here). Internet seemed to work fine as well. I saw the little H too. HD video recording is super awesome now. Like someone else said, the brightness of the screen is MUCH MUCH better! The only thing that wasn't fine was the thing a phone was meant to do - makes CALLS! Everytime I called someone, the second they answered the call would be dropped and the screen would become blue (similar to the SMS background). I thought something had gone horribly wrong in the update. But my coworker who's dealt with similar occurrences in the past suggested I pop out the battery, wait about 30 seconds and pop it back in. What do you know, it WORKED! Apparently popping out/in the battery fixes oddities in phones. So if you haven't done it yet, that's my suggestion to all of you having problems. It could fix some of them!

I am still having problems at times with the connection, my texts will sometimes not send on the first try (even if they are one-liners)... Haven't figured that one out yet, but I will let you all know if I do! But it's not a big deal to me right now, considering... at least, not yet.

Here's hoping the next update (I heard something about Q1 in 2011?) is much better than this one was! the x10 is such a beauty. I would hate to see it be despised in the future because of bad software. :/

Yup, sounds about right!

The battery thing is like switching off your computer, which sometimes fixes problems.

I think I remember hearing somewhere else possible 2.2 update in Q1. However, the hardware won't be able to support 3.0.

Kevmars: I think if you add a new contact then do the sync again, it should add the new contact... However, I think this could duplicate all the phone numbers etc again, though I've not tried it.

i dont know. I have tried all the fields taht you can have added to teh contact. mite have to contact sony to see what they say about it. As for the sync i have only got a couple of contacts that have synced. Dont fancy trying to re import again as that would mean having to restart my fone again after. Will keep updated on how i get on with sony about the problem
