Accessories <<<<<Unofficial OtterBox Defender Thread>>>>>

What the heck is the Arduous Rugged case?

I can't find that anywhere. Did you misspell?

Link?

Seido makes a case called Rugged, with I have and like

The thing I like most is it can go right over my Innocase II

And the reason I got this case was otterbox took so long to come out with a case

If otterbox comes out with a yellow one, I may buy it for hunting/camping for visibility reasons

Got my Defender case delivered yesterday. I too noticed the minor wiggle/rattle in the hard case and followed the tip of using a cut down business card which seems to be doing the job well. Agreed one shouldn't have to do that for a pricey case... Didn't notice the "lint magnet" effect until putting it in blue jeans pocket today, but that's inherent to this type of cover. It is a bit bulkier overall, but I think well worth the investment/protection.

My defender case came in today. The fit is as a few others have indicated, which is slightly larger than the device allowing it to rattle.

The real problem I have found though is the proximity sensor does not work with the case on. Anyone else find this to be true with their case?

Overall, the case is what I expected in the function. Just wish the fit was better, and the proximity sensor worked.

Can't argue with the customer support from Otterbox. Called, explained the situation. In less than 5 minutes they agreed to ship me a new case without any need to RMA or send the one I have now back.

I received my replacement case today and the fit is exactly the same as the original Defender case. It still has the looseness on the edges which drives me crazy. They told me to check back in a couple of weeks to see if they have a resolution. gee ok I'll do that.

Well I guess I will go find a cheap temporary case for now, just cancelled my Amazon order. I'm not paying $50 for a case for it to not fit right or snap close right. It wasn't going to ship till nearly Thanksgiving anyway. I'm just going to order straight from Otterbox after they get these issues fixed.

michaelkahl, check to make sure that a tab that hold the polycarbonate shell together hasn't snapped off. I am currently dealing with this problem on the Defender I have on my iPod. It looks like there was a defect in the plastic and I guess the last time I opened the case a tab broke off. Now the lower left corner won't stay together unless the silicone is on. But I have emailed Otterbox about this and they said if I send them pics of the break along with my address I should get a new case under warranty.
I went over it but have found nothing :( It appears that this is just a defect in the case. i asked otterbox about it since more and more people are reporting these issues. I have yet to hear of one customer that did not have a loose case.

Finally got my case today after the delay caused by Otterbox for my order. And I have the 'loose case' problem too. Called Otterbox several times... I'm getting 2 rings which then switches to busy signal which then hangs up...

Finally got through... like other posts, Otterbox will send a replacement in approx 3 weeks (due to backorder).

I have received a second case, same problem as the first (loose phone inside), AND on this case the screen protector isn't flush with the phone's screen. It's actually about 1/16th of an inch separate near the optical touchpad leaving a good sized entry for dust and such. Sent another email to my contact. I will post again when anything changes.

So after having this case for about a month I went from really liking it to pretty much hating it to now living with it. At first I was pretty impressed by the look and quality feel. This case will definitely protect your Inc. The problems I then discovered are as others have mentioned: phone is slightly loose in the case, screen protector allows lint and dirt between it and the screen, silicon is a lint magnet.

I've since removed the attached screen protector because the dirt and lint stuck in between my phone and the protector just got too annoying. I was having to take the case apart and clean it every week or less. I now have a regular screen protector and the case. The rattle was solved by placing one of those grocery store savings key chain cards in between the phone back and case, not ideal. The lint on the silicon is unfortunately unavoidable.

I think I would have preferreed the Otterbox Commuter with the hard outer case which wouldn't be such a lint magnet and doesn't seem to have the fit and finish issues. May swap at some point soon.

I got tired of the Defender issues and switched to the Commuter case today. It is exactly what i was looking for! Less bulky, smooth plastic outer shell that doesn't get as dirty as the silicon of Defender and is easier to take out of a pocket. The fit and finish seem much better than the Defender case. I was constantly having to re-seat the silicon edges of the Defender but the Commuter just seems more sturdy. Might not be quite as protective as it is thinner, but I'm much happier with the Commuter.

I have both the Commuter and Defender. The Commuter is perfect and I've been using it for about 1 1/2 months now. The Defender I just received a week ago. I have the same looseness problems as everyone else. I emailed Otterbox yesterday, and received a reply today asking for my info. I gave it to them and got an email back not five minutes later with an order number and a message saying my new case will be here in 2-3 weeks. They didn't ask me to send the old one back or anything. While my current case isn't perfect, I must admit that the customer service is spot on. I'll report back with my impressions regarding the new one when I get it.
