Eris Locking Up !

I too am having this problem. My phone has been flawless since day one (Purchased 11.10.09). Installed the OTA update this past Saturday morning and since then have had to pull the battery four times due to the lock up screen freezing. The two times it happened today it appeared to be receiving something. In addition since the update the phone/touch screen seem to have slowed down accross the board. It was always very responsive and now just seems very sluggish. I only have one app installed (Handcent SMS ver 2.9.22). I sincerely hope they (HTC/VZ) figure it out and offer a patch soon. As I'm sure most know by now that plastic battery cover won't last long if this continues. Every time I pop it off I'm saying to myself..."please don't crack in half"!

I just read on another site that HTC/VZW are scheduling another update on the 18th of this month, before the 2.x update.

Hopefully this is true and meant to address some of these issues, especially the phone freezing.

Where did you read this? It would be interesting to see what went wrong with the first update but I wasn't able to find anything about it.

I just wish we could get some official response from HTC or Verizon to at least acknowledge the issue and give us a time frame for another update.

I'd feel a lot better about the whole situation if they'd make a press release or something about it. This being left in the dark crap is what pisses me off.

My daughter's Eris is doing exactly the same thing after the update, it's locked up around 20 times so far.

If we want an official statement from Verizon on acknowledging the problem and a firm date for a fix, how about EVERY person who has the problem take their Eris back in the next 24 hours, demand a replacement, and NOT put on the update. Wait on the update until a fix is released.

Obviously nobody was having the lockup problems before the update, just don't apply it until a working update is released :)

I think if VZW sees *thousands* of phones being returned in the next couple days they will get the hint here.

I do have to admit, however, that VZW is a lot better about acknowledging problems and giving info on updates than Sprint is.

Just for the record I posted at the very beginning of the update period that a VZW Customer Service gal warned me of the lock-up issue and suggested that I wait. Then some one gave me crap about complaining and saying it was a great phone. I tried to throw it out there for people. I have had no problems pre-update, and I continue to pass on the update after reading all of these issues. Battery life has improved steadily with normal use. Oh well. Maybe they'll get it right on this update on the 18th they're talking about.
