At first I thought the battery was dead but then I started to adjust parts of the phone ie: backlight and i added the Power Saver app and the battery increased a bit and lasted longer. I can usually go a full day at moderate use. I think alot of people are complaining about the battery but there arent taking into effect that the phone is incredible and hard to put down so it drains battery faster then the other phones on the market that are offered. I personally have moments where i cant put this Evo down because it impresses the hell out of me and i do a lot more web surfing on it then any other phone. Evo hasnt let me down and like mentioned already buy a car charger its that simple, and if its that bad that you can't deal with it then go but something else that doesnt have the same functions as the Evo "Downgrade" but for me its only "Upgrade" and the Evo is the best thing going right now!

I agree, great post. Sometimes the Evo is just incredibly hard to put down. I checked my data usage the other day on the Sprint account app and w/o my cycle even being done (have like 4 days left) I've already done 2.3gb of data including all the times I've been on WiFi at my own home and my fiance's place. It's more than double the usage I use to get on my Hero. It's really hard to not use the hell out of this thing.

I have a car charger and a charger at work (I'm a computer tech, so it's not hard to leave it plugged in while I'm at work. Tons of USB cables around), so I really don't have an issue with the phone dying all of the time. The only thing that continues to bother me is that when I take the phone off the charger in the morning, by the time I get out to my car (10 minutes later?) the battery is already at 95%.

Other than that, I really love this phone and have never been too concerned about battery life, just because I have the ability to charge it wherever I am.

I bought one of the original Pres and carried it for 26 days before I returned it

I have the EVO and Pre and since getting the EVO don't even think I touched the Pre. Way to slow and klunky when compared to the EVO, horrible cheap plastic feeling small screen and I can't think of anything I like better or miss about the Pre.

I had the Pre for over a year and found myself using it less and less due to its performance lags and small screen making it hard to do things on. Even trying to use the camera could take 20+ seconds sometimes. I dont even remember how or why I first got the Pre but it must have been a special or free.

I'll chime in since I'm also running Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS 3, with Netarchy's 4.2.1-bfs-havs-more kernel, with the stock battery, so my experience should be very applicable to yours.

In short, I experience exactly the same type of profile you're describing. Virtually no drop while the phone is idle, but during active web browsing (as opposed to, for instance, simply remaining on one page, or something), I tend to lose about 1% every 2 minutes. This is with 3G enabled, no GPS or anything.

Since I'm testing out this kernel, I'm able to tell you that, after booting up from a full charge this morning, as of right now my unplugged time is 8:55 with 1:17 awake time, and under usage statistics, my android system is at 21%. I have 63% remaining.

On the whole, I think it's very good battery life, since I can easily make it through a whole day with generally >40% remaining, but it is somewhat alarming to see it drop quickly during use. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

EDIT: My day is over, finally. Here is my usage:

For the longest time I've been able to get 15-19 hours from the battery with minimal-moderate usage during the day since the phone came out. I text periodically throughtout the day, run Pandora for my patients while they're exercising, read the national papers or Facebook during lunch and then run Pandora some more in the afternoon. I'll make a phone call every now-and-then. I get this life because I turn on my wifi and hook into the my employers connection. This has been great up until yesterday. I have now been experiencing more battery loss by mid-day and I haven't changed my routine. In fact, the phone was been sitting idle for most of the day. I don't get it. Has anyone experienced this yo-yo effect on their phone??

Today I made it till 1:58pm and I have 19% left as per battery info. Minimal usage today. GPS, 4G, BT off. Wifi was on while @ work.

I just wanted to share this with the rest. When i first got my phone i had an average of 6 hours battery life with light to moderate use. After some rooting and tweaking i doubled it to about 13 hours with moderate use. People complain that "why do we have to tweak our phone just to be able to do it's intended use?", i don't really mind coz it's actually fun doing it... but that's just me.

So, first my question...

5211382847_9732eac684.jpg

What's making "android system" eat up the battery to 96%? are these all the open apps and such? i feel like if i can still tweak something to minimize this battery usage i can extend my battery life more...

And here's to show my battery improvement. Unplugged my phone from the charger at 10pm last night. Used it for some time then left it alone (didn't recharge). Woke up around 9am then used it some more. I don't remember the division of time that i used it but here's the snapshot of battery status in the morning.

*Note - Phone was off when charged last night then turned on after unplugged to show accurate "total wake time" and "total up time" from the start of fully charged battery use.

5211982820_5df99cb5d3.jpg

As you can see i already had total up time of 12 hours and a total wake time of 4.5 hours in the morning (web browsing, texting, dl apps, phone convo) and i was still on 44% battery life.

Wanted to see how far i can go with just "moderate use" but didn't have the patience so i just played a movie to see how it would affect my battery.

So, an hour later here's a snapshot of the battery use.

5211982806_bd96a4e3d9.jpg

Total Up time of 13 hrs and total wake time of 5.2 hrs. and at 19% battery life. So i still have about 2hrs of idle time left and about an hour of wake time use (texting, web browsing, and phone calls probably)

I don't know if there are a lot of people getting this much out of their battery but i am happy with it. And i'll be more happy if my question up there ^ will be answered =D.

*Phone was not recharged throughout this whole process*

Notes:
-Used wifi when browsing
-Screen Timeout at 1 min
-Screen brightness at auto
-background sync enabled
-autosync disabled (although i should enable this since i want to be updated for new emails
-HTC clock and calendar running
-The Weather Channel App running

Tips:
-Root your phone!
-DL "setCPU" app and make use of it's profile (schedule use) THIS HELPS A WHOLE LOT
-DL Advance Task Killer and use it
-Turn off wifi, 4g, gps when not in use

If you have any other tips or questions for me then please post.

Thank you, just wanted to share.

my phone reboots everyday, mostly when I am in the android marketplace, went to sprint 4 times, they did hard reset 2 times, and another reset another time, same problem, they told me they can not give me replacement phone because its rebooting when I am involved in a game or app, and that since its open source, she said they can not help with that, only if its happening specifically with a sprint app, my question is, if I root it, will that help, I never rooted this phone before, so I am asking, otherwise its time for a new phone, the games it rebooted are: atomic bomber, homerunbatle 3d, ibasket, heres what I do not get, why does hyperjump work, and who wants to be a millionaire work? these games I never had a problem with before up until this month, and now while dloading multiple games from the market, it rebooted again, and rebooted yesterday while browsing the internet with my bookmarks, can anyone help me understand whats wrong?

Ok, to the op, when you click on android system what does it say? Post a screen shot of that so we can take a look.

To the latest poster, I'm a bit stumped. My best guess would be that your phone is overheating with some graphic intensive games. Could that be the issue? Also rooting may or may not help. It is probably going to take some more proding into the actual cause of the problem to answer whether or not rooting will help.

Yes its the apps and stuff i get about 17-19 hours on average with moderae use on school days i can get 22-23 hours because im in school for 8 im surprise u only get 13 im not rooted and i get more i have ATK which helps keep the pecent of battery usage for the android system low around 28-35% but i also always have full bars so my battery wont drain from cell standby

Alright, here's a snapshot of what my "android system" say...

What do you think is eating up the most of the battery?

And also, i don't think ATK is working on rooted phone using unrevoked because everytime i kill apps using ATK 2-4 mins later 14-20 Apps are running on the background again

Tips?

I believe that the items on this screen will always equal 100% regardless of how many items are in the list. The screen isn't telling you how much energy each item used, just what percent of the energy each item used.

Clear as mud?

Crystal! but sometimes the battery division is more equal in between those categories. but oh well my battery lasts longer now, so im good! Thank you people... now i'm just waiting for an easier CM6 install so i can connect a wii controller but that's completely off topic hehe

i just got home from the sprint store and got the extended battery. I was able to have them credit my account the amount of the battery. On first charge it dropped down to 83% within the first 10 minutes. I think it needs to be calibrated. also there is an issue with the evo where it wont charge over 1500ma.

Oh wow....hmm, I might as well just keep my regular battery then. Today I used my EVO moderately and Im at 12hrs and 32min....and Im at 50% battery life left.
