11/19/10 HTC Hero Maintenance Release 2.32.651.2

No it does not ;)

Where did you read about? Not that I am questioning your veracity, DonB, but I am just interested in seeing the post surrounding that knowledge.

I recall that I misread a post last week that I thought had purported it did not affect root, but it was a Visual Voicemail update, not the maintenance update that was being talked about in that post. Additionally, do you know if it would prevent one from rooting in the first place?

Can anyone tell me how much memory the Sprint Zone app takes up? I've got this update DL'ed but not installed yet. I decided to check here first to see what it was about and I'm concerned about adding yet another app to my phone that I can't delete. My internal memory is tight as it is. I might want to try out Sprint Zone but would like to know what it's going to cost me memory wise since I won't be able to get rid of it.

I know I can root. But I haven't.

Thanks for the information, Firehawk. What method did you use to re-root your Sprint HTC Hero?

I might just go ahead with these updates if rooting is not thwarted. It might be worth it.

I used superoneclick. Its sweet, one click root, one click unroot. Though I must say I rooted only so I can use LEDs hack to turn off the backlights of my bottom buttons and trackball since the 2.1 upgrade eliminated the option to turn off those lights. Other then that my phone is stock.

It appears that HTC MAY have fixed a multicast problem that they have had with their phones. I set a breakpoint right after where I receive multicast broadcasts in an Android app I am developing and on the Hero it now gets to the breakpoint, but in the EVO it still does not.
This is caused by HTC not implementing a Join for the multicast group correctly, but since some routers do not require a join, I have been fooled before in thinking it was working (it does work with routers that do not implement something called IGMP). When I get back to the office on Wed where the router definitely requires a join I should be able to verify this.
For our app, to work around this I had to implement a polling routine so that the HTC phones get updated regularly with information from our multi-room audio system (the app is a control app for CasaTunes, a multi-room, computer based audio system for playing iTunes, Windows Media, and internet radio in multiple rooms of your home). Other phones get updated almost immediately because they get updates via the multicast broadcasts from CasaTunes.
I believe there are also some multi-player games that will benefit from this, too (if I am right....).

What Rom are you on if you have dialer lag, I have absolutely no lag on AOSP, it flies, I wish I would have rooted earlier

I rooted before the .6 maintenance update. That update was supposed to fix the dailing lag. And right now, my dialing is out of control. So I want that update badly. Can I download that update even though I am rooted? And if I can't, what can I do to fix the dialing lag?

You can run the RUU (click here) (or go to Sprint's website and run the 2.1 update from there...plug the phone into the computer and follow Sprint's instructions) which will get you back to stock (unrooted) then install the ".7" update, then re-root.

Alright so I'm a little confused about these updates. Say I go back to the Unrooted stock ROM. Do I have to install the updates in order of there release (one after the other) or can I choose which updates/maintenance releases to install?

I really did not want to go back to the STOCK unrooted because I don't want to lose all my configurations/apps on my phone. I just don't want to deal with having to back up everything and going through that hoopla. But considering that dialing lag was sooooo horrible the other day (1min+ after rebooting), I might have to.

Well, the other choice, as i see it, is to flash one of the latest Custom Roms, that include the latest updated software (.7 as well as the maintenece releases), but that will cause you to have to re set-up everything again anyway. The apps will all be there for re-downloading the first time you go to the market. Also, many speak highly of an app called Titanium Backup that can help in the re-setup of your phone. I don't have any personal experience with it, but others here do...

BTW, some of the "custom Roms" are really very close to the stock Sprint/HTC sense ui, just optimized...Like NFX's latest, or so I hear. I am using Fresh 2.3.3, and it is very stock, just allows a custom kernel and overclocking, which has completely eliminated any lag on my phone.

BUT....We're getting into a discussion that should really be in the all things root sub forum :):D

I just switched from the Pre to the Hero because the Pre has an incessant amount of problems. I got pretty good at modifying WebOs, and was even prepared to fully flash the phone to Cricket if Sprint decided to screw me. The day before I did get screwed by Sprint my 8th Pre basically destroyed itself. They offered me a Hero for free, thankfully, but now I am stuck with a completely unfamiliar OS and I have no idea what to do. I updated the hero to Android 2.1 update 1 and the build is 2.32.651.2. My phone was shut off today and I desperately need to flash the phone over to Cricket. Can someone PM me or Email me and walk me through step by step. I am facing terms I barely understand and don't really want to brick my brand new Hero. It would be amazing if I could get some help! Thanks! By the way, from what I have seen so far, Android beats the **** out of WebOs.

I've been trying to install this update and it still won't work. Everytime I try to install it it says that installation has been aborted. At first I was using LS2.1 and the update wouldn't work, so now I'm using to original stock Sense ROM, but I'm still rooted. Am I supposed to unroot my phone first?

UPDATE: I unrooted my phone, did a hard reset and the installation still gets aborted... I don't get it... *sigh*
