Viewsonic G-Tablet review UPDATE

I don't want to sound like a salesperson but....

For $280 that the G-tab is a steal. The adams I believe is worth the wait. And the nook, has such a nice display. That is a tough decision. If it was me, I would either get that G-tab or wait for the Adam.

My wife has a small say in the purchase as she is wanting a good ereader & a screen that she look at for several hours without eyestrain. I think I'm going to have to go with the NC or the Adam to get both of us working but I didn't want people to miss the $280 gTab cause if I was single, I'd have ordered one already.

Picked up one Friday at sears. I gave it a good try but it's just no good out of the box like others have been saying. Got flash and launcherpro working which made it better, but it still has it's problems. The piss poor viewing angle was the last straw for me though. I'd like to like this thing for what it's hardware is, buts it's just not ready for general consumption IMO. Worse still is you can now get the 16GB iPad for the same price and know it'll work out of the box.

I'll take a 16 iPad for $399. Can you point me in the right direction?

I picked one up last night. Within an hour had all the good mods and TnT Lite installed. This is a whole new machine with the right rom and mods. Everything is running smooth and fast. Will probably try CM6 soon. The build quality looks better than what i have seen of the archos and this thing is a cake to root and use custom roms. This is why i chose it over the archos 101. I agree that the viewing angles are not the best, but it doesnt matter to me, i will be looking straight at it all the time. So far i think this is the best android tab out there if you are into rooting/hacking. Before people give me the ipad stuff, i refuse to give my money to Steve Jobs.

I think all three are nice choices.

Dude , tell me about it. I have tnt lite 2.02 with the performance pack, tethering enabled, a multitouch keyboard and the wii mote all functional. This tab is superfast. Gaming, multimedia, and browsing is so much better now. Battery life is the best. Quadrant scores are awesome. All this on Froyo that doesn't even utilize the processors dual cores.:eek:

Flash is butter and I was just trying out Qik with a friend who has an Evo. Pretty damn cool! Was showing my boss all the cool things this does and his iTampax doesn't do. :) He was impressed that it had a USB port! hAHHAHA

I need more hel. I did the method used on the xda forums to allow the market to get all the apps. Only problem is when I try todownload them the market force closes and when I open it back up I can go to downloads but the apps are just stuck on download. Any ideas of what I should do to correct this?

What rom are you running? I would clear cache and data on the market app.

That's awesome. I'm planning to do the same thing when the new honeycomb tablets come out. I think the Tegra 2 will be the main platform for the next gen tablets, so pretty soon will have two Honeycomb tablets...woohoo!

@rushmore

a little off-topic but dang!!! you got chewed out at the Archos forums haha. One guy really went off on your post. geez. You took it well though.

Some are fanboys there and the truth hurts. Especially now since 2.2 has been released by Archos and the results appear worse than the out of box state of the Gtablet ;)

I have TnT Lite 2.04 on mine and will wait for TnT 2.20 to be released before bothering with setting stuff back up again. Even using Titanium, you still have to set other stuff up. No problem, but gets old doing it every day. 2.04 is rock solid for me, Flash and apps are fine as well as wifi tether. I had 2.03, which had the speed increase, but broke USB storage (speed was nice but needed USB storage to work correctly). 2.04 and 2.10 and higher is okay for USB storage, but 2.04 does not have the speed increase.

2.20 should be just as stable, but also increases performance by 33% (as noted above with Quadrant chart for version 2.10)

2.04 = 1800 to 1900 Quadrant
2.1 and above = 2400 to 2500 Quadrant

2.11 already has the speed increase, but has a few stability issues. Considering the Gtablet performance is already twice that of the Archos 101, I am happy to wait for confirmation of 2.20 stability (should release tomorrow).

Seriously, this Tablet makes the Archos 101 seem like a little wimp. Even with 2.2, heavy Flash sites and Adobe Reader choke, due to the 256mb ram.

Archos 101 will still be a good device, but Archos needs to sort out the 2.2 issues.

Funny: The mega update for TnT mod will also be "2.20".... Ironic

Sorry but I'm gonna ask a lot of questions so I can try to help...

Which recovery do u have installed? Stock or clockwork? I saw your post where u provided a link to a step by step instructions...is that what u used? What rom did u flash? Tnt lite 2.2? Can u still mount ur internal sd card?

If after flashing new version it boots and then seems to keep getting continual FCs on different apps it's likely because you didn't flush your davlik cache so it's full of cached versions of older version now mixed with new... usually just flush cache and reboot will clear that problem up as will rebuild cache from scratch (much longer first boot) and then everything matches the new version and should run cleanly...
