Help New to GT540 and Android

i have just brought this phone and have no idea what i am doing........ Please i need help. I have turned it on and tyring to set up the gmail account so i can start downloading apps and i dont know how to do this. Also i would like to know how to download the apps and everything i basically need to know to use the phone please please please help me.

I downloaded the LG software update tool directly from the LG website.. I did have trouble getting my PC to see my phone via the cable, I think it has to be a UBS2 or greater USB slot but I could be wrong an my PC is just rubbish.
I choose United States /English ( i'm in the UK)

This what I did.. Went to my PC and logged into Google and selected email and set up an account with them myname@gmail.com.. Switched on my phone and selected the googlemail icon and entered my gmail email address and password.. done! I was then able to download apps from the market place.
As to use the phone your best reading the user guide and spend a few hours just playing with the phone getting use to it. Saying that I'm other memebers on here could help you.. I'm still new and learning so I can't sorry.

I am from India and I purchased this device on this sunday. I need to download the free applications from android market on the phone but to do so I need to create or sign up an account with Google but after taking too much time it shows an error message that data transfer problem is there. Since I use vodafone, I called the customer care but they are even newly exposed to this OS and this device, so they just provided me the GPRS configuration and manually and asked me to try again. Although, I did not try after that, I am pretty unsure about it. Can you help me in this regard that what should I do to download those thousands free apps from the android market?
