Help Time upgrade my moment...really want an EVO but....

I'm concerned about the reboot issue I keep reading about. In this forum and over at xda the reboot thread is quite large.

I dealt with the data lockup on the moment and don't want another phone with a huge flaw. I've tried the EVO and Epic and would really prefer the EVO (Samsungs history of support has me leary, and it looks like the epic is getting the same treatment).

Is this really a widespread issue?

The only reboot issue I'm aware of is with some custom roms. The stock phone itself is pretty good. There was an issue with the gps part of Maps causing a reboot, but a fix was posted and I think the latest ota update fixed it as well. I've only had mine reboot once in a great while. So little in fact I can't remember the last time it did...

It's one of those cases where those who have the problem are vocal about it, and the rest (a majority) are usually quiet until someone asks. It makes it sound like it's a huge problem. If you do happen to end up with a phone that reboots on its own, take it right back and get a new one. You're never under any obligation to keep a defective phone.

EDIT: well, until the warranty is up, at least, but you'd know pretty quickly if there's a problem.

Got my evo monday and leave wifi on and use gps several times a day and haven't had a reboot. In my research i didn't even hear about it.

I came from a moment too. It's a pretty substantial upgrade. Just do it.

There are no strings attached for returning in 30 days, but you do have to pay the $35 return fee if you're upgrading.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm glad it seems that its an isolated incident. I know when there's a problem those people make the most noise (rightly so). But coming from the moment and samsung and waiting and being told that the next update will fix this, has left me cautious about my next phone. Even though most people don't seem to have the reboot issue it doesn't look like it's an insignificant problem. Like I said earlier I'll more than likely get this phone and really stress test it, maybe ride in a car with google nav and my tracks running, while listening to pandora and playing angry birds. I dont know if I could stress it out any more than that. I'd be really impressed if I could all that.

I have had my evo since launch day it has rebooted no more then 6 times. And only once since the froyo update.

Why does the evo reboot? When your system memory(ram) fills up and your trying to run something that requires more memory your phone may reboot. I believe this is a function of android to clear itself out. And since froyo manages apps soo much better then 2.1 eclair this almost never happens. And is usually because you have some runaway apps and not a phone hardware issue.

Im sure some have been hardware issue. But not most. When searching this issue only posts after early august should be of your concern. After the froyo update.

I don't think this issue is as bad as it sounds.
