Thank you. I wanted to slap some of these early posters from June thinking 3.0 = Gingerbread.
I dont see why we would not get Gingerbread (2.3). Honeycomb (3.0) is probably a no no since it does not play well with skins like Sense.

In June everyone assumed Android 3.0 = Gingerbread...no one even knew about Honeycomb...

I wouldn't be surprised to see Honeycomb on the EVO...but like Covert said, don't expect it to be from HTC.

Nothing like some good old fashioned speculation to get everyone all riled up! lol. I think the real question is, will there be a new Android and maybe even Windows 7 device out by June of next year. Because if there is an Evo 2 of some sort by June(when most of us will be eligible for an upgrade), 90% of us won't give two craps what software is gettin pushed to the Evo

Just in case anyone doesn't know or is interested, I was on another trusted Android website and I noticed someone stated that Gingerbread (2.3) is now on the Evo thanks to the wonderful minds at XDA. It's not stable but at least their able to do it, so we can imagine how quickly the finally build might be available. Maybe we can have some of that tasty treat for the holidays

According to Androidcentral...

"The Evo 4G

Yes, your Evo will get Gingerbread, I'm sure of it. Regardless of which phone the customers think is Sprint's best Android offering, Sprint has a lot riding on the Evo, even five months after its launch.

To round it all out, there's this crazy rumor -- and feel free to ridicule me for not having the link -- that an HTC employee confirmed that HTC wants Gingerbread on the Evo before Christmas, and Sprint wants to be first to market with the update. Like I said, it's a rumor, but it sounds reasonable."

That would be sweet! And include the new Htc Sense please!

True that in all ways...

how did you not notice anything going from 2.1 to 2.2??

battery life doubled for me and lag went away entirely.

My battery life suck now, running evo fresh by flips. I don't know why but I almost never have 4g signal, I never experienced 4g from the evo either. So I don't know what the big deal is about gingerbread. It would be nice if it fixes all of the bad things about all of the roms that I've tried thus far.

I never found a good Rom yet that has everything working perfectly.

Any thoughts or ideas?

That would be the coolest thing ever, if something good would come out before Christmas.

Yep.....Myns warm....everything works perfectly... If fresh is an AOSP ROM, then 4g will not ever work. I don't use fresh so I don't know.

4G seems fine in SF bay area, but not when you're moving (5 minute refresh on lost signal). There's a way to speed up 4G refresh, but not worth it till coverage is better. If you're moving, it's best to turn it off. The refresh burns through your battery.

As for the Evo being obsolete, I think the Evo is exactly what I would make, if I had the resources to make a phone. It does everything it's supposed to except stream from internet to hdmi-out.

As for processor intensive apps, developers lean towards iPhone for reasons I don't want to discuss., and then move to Android. The games that require 2ghz processors are out there.

I hope it is backward compatible with my flashcard and bluetooth apps?

Apps often survive unscathed as the OS updates - but often they get buggy, and my personal experience is that very often, app updates happen nearly in concurrence with the OS upgrade, and often precedes it.

There are many factors driving whether an app will need re-alignment with the new OS or not, and I don't believe that anyone can predict such a thing either way.

I've worked with devs to help them shake out their bug fixes with new OS versions on my Evo, strictly because I took the time to send them an email and politely explain the exact details of the problem.

The feedback I've gotten is that many complain, but few if any users will write and give specifics to help the developers fix the problem quickly, volunteering privately to cycle through taking an update and giving feedback. With feedback, they can more quickly zero in on whether it's phone+new_OS related, or just new_OS related - after all, they can't own and test every configuration of every phone.

Theoretically, it's not on the user to be the QA guy - all I'm saying is that when the formal QA process breaks down, I've only seen positive responses from the devs I've contacted.
