Root Do I need Goldcard if I have phone's ROM?

I have this rom:

RUU_Bravo_Froyo_TELUS_WWE_2.25.661.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U
_5.11.05.27_release_151557_signed.exe

which is the same as the one on my phone. With this in hand do I need to make a Goldcard before rooting and using a custom ROM in case something goes wrong? Should I not be able to get back to the way the phone is now by flashing the above ROM or would I need the Goldcard to simply be able to flash the above ROM?

Thanks,
Richard

You can run the same version as on the phone, just nothing earlier (though my downgrade tool can bypass that).

A goldcard is recommended when you do any kind of flashing, unless your phone is truly unbranded.

I had wondered, but glad you're back to ask....

Your downgrade tool works on all rom types, not just RUU flashed ones?

It's more than a downgrade tool really, more of a recovery tool. It defaults to installing unbranded Android 2.1 (I can't remember the version number now), but in fact allows any version of any official HTC stock ROM to be installed, branded or unbranded. The original purpose was to allow people to root phones with stock froyo installed, since it was at that time impossible.
