Help How to search contacts by Company name?

The search on the phone works the same for both. The question is what fields did you use to place the "Company Title"? For example, if you want to create a new contact on your phone and it is a company, you must select "ADD Field" since there is NO company option available as a default. after you select ADD Field, use the field "COMPANY". If you try that and than do a search, you'll see it come up as you type it, since the dearch works as a letter by letter opposed to word by word...

Hope that explains it... By the way, are you using 2.1? If YES, and since you are using Gmail for your contacts, are ALL of your contacts appearing on your phone?

Good Luck!

Hi,

The default search only looks at the contact name, which is pretty useless.

You can always try my app, Contact Search, which is free and will search all the major contact fields quickly.

More details here softwyer.wordpress.com

The default does look for Company Names, it just needs to be placed into the correct field. In the proper field, the default search will look for last name and company.

OP, see my message above and it will explain what you need to do.

Good Luck!

Thanks for spotting that Gunny - I'd not noticed that working before ;-)

NO problem, that's why this forum is so great. Everyone, gets along and works seemlessly with no tention (Thanks RoseRed) :D . There are some forums out there that are doggie dog, constantly sniping one another, the whole bad deal . Glad I was able to show you something new... ;)

Now if I could only figure out this contact hiccup, the world would be at peace again...

By the way, I just went to your link and that is a very good app you developed there! Congrats, I am sure it will help a lot of people! Was it difficult to write? Are you a programer, or just a sideline trying your hand? Regardless, Great Job!:)

...Are you a programer, or just a sideline trying your hand? ...

I am a Java programmer by trade, so doing the Android development is relatively straightforward, though it's framework takes a little getting used to. I'd like to do iPhone development too, but the Objective 'C' language puts me off - 'C' is a magnitude harder than Java :p

I am having the same trouble. When I hit my universal search button (on of the 4 buttons at the bottom of my fascinate), I cannot bring up many companies. I went from a windows phone, to a black berry and now to a droid. I have entries that have been put in with each system though they are now all in my Google Contacts. I just went and looked at a few and the company name is in the Company field but it will not be brought up in the universal search. Other companies will be shown and their name is in the Company field just like some that will not be shown. For the more commonly used numbers I have been copying the company name into the first name field and that seems to work. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Brian

The 'Quick Search' box does not show all the possible search hit's, only a select few and this is controlled by some internal ranking. If you are using OS 2.1, then you can select the 'More' details after searching, if you are using OS 2.2 then you can click the icon on the top-left and select which sort of search you want to do (Contacts). This will enable a more thorough search of only contacts.

With OS 2.2 you can also add a 'Contacts' specific search widget to the home screen. Just add a Search widget and select Contacts as the provider.

I don't see a Company field on my device. Only Organization.
There's a place for Company phone number. I can only input digits and not text.

I was having this issue today and just figured out a solution. I don't know if this is HTC only but I hope it helps...

Open the Contacts widget on the home screen, press the menu button and select View. This will bring up the View contacts screen. Hit the drop-down arrow next to "Search contacts by". The options are Phone number, Email address, Company, and Group name. Email address was the only box checked by default on my phone. I selected Company and I was immediately able to find contacts by company name.
