Root A beginners way to Cyanogen? Is it possible?

So i read around a bit and i understand all the benefits and such for rooting, the main thing is customizing the little things like bootscreens, sounds and manual photoshop work for backgrounds etc. but what i don't understand is the fuzzy feeling of ROMS.

I want Cyanogen on my Optimus, but i don't really understand if it's available. (if not, why not?)

So, is there a copy of Cyanogen available for the GT540?

The website doesn't mention it under downloads section, but several android forums around the internet says it is around.

I apologize for being such an idiot. :(

I will check back tomorrow morning, err well at 08:00, that's about 8 hours from now.
Thanks all in advance.

Seems that there are two versions ready to go.

CyanogenMod Coming to GT540. - Android @ MoDaCo

IF YOU HAVE CLOCKWORK RECOVERY USE THIS :

1. Download {link}

2. Extract the file on your desktop for example

3. Copy the extracted file to your SD card in the SD/clockworkmod/backup/ directory

4. Next Restore your phone

FOO YEAH!!!
That's pretty awesome, thanks man!

Assuming you have some experience of ROMS, since i rooted using a one click method and that app has an unroot option, does the rom also dissapear if i unroot? Hopefully it will, if i ever have to return the phone with my warranty.

I would like to take a look at this Rom before installing it. Should be an easy task with Rom Manager or installing from your PC with KDZ_FW_UPD.

It seems that these are versions of Cyanogen, not the official v6.

All right, there's still one thing i don't understand, why are there different ROM versions for different phones?
If there's a similarity of this phone with the Optimus One (Damn sure it's the same exact android OS edition on them) wouldn't that work?

The ROM has to be customised for each individual phone. Cyanogen is built for and around HTC handsets and will not work on a samsung for instance.

Anyway I am about to install the cyanogen version for the GT540! Wish me luck.

Cool! After I managed to install CM on my phone, I realized I went through alot to do it. I decided to post it on these forums with a super easy explanation on how to install it because I know how frustrating it can be reading translated or poorly written instructions! :D
