Why all the Nexus S hate??

Listen if someone wants one, they should get it! Plain and simple. However myself and a lot of people are just stating the obvious, that the phone is mearly a Galaxy S phone, sans the SD slot and 720p recording, and adds a front facing shooter, and 2.3 and has the luxury of getting updates straight from Google. That is a great luxury to have in my eyes, but its almost 2011, and in this day and age I nor anyone else should have to swap features in order to get others. This phone is supposed to be a Flagship Android device. Nothing should be left out at all! The reason why Tmo has it at this moment is most likely because Vzw, At&t, and Sprint do not want it. And Tmo will take just about anything to either aid them in keeping some customers or adding new ones. Honestly its not a terrible phone, not one bit, I happen to really like the design, the screen is beautiful like the rest of the Galaxy S phones , the processor is speedy, and updates from Android is a great Feature. I used for a few hrs, And just came away saying that it could have just been better, that's all! In the end we all win, because we happen to agree on one simple thing, that we all love Android.

...An upgraded gps chip...thats already being reported with the same issues as the prior S line...

Where are these reports? I've seen one mention of spotty GPS functionality, but it was from someone with a defective unit. Absolutely everyone else has had zero problems with it.

The Nexus S really has none of the drawbacks for the Captivate (and SGS line), apart from the plastic housing. Everything that prevented me from getting an SGS has been sorted out in the Nexus S.

the nexus one was a big jump forward for android phones. it was a sales failure, but it accomplished the bigger goal for google, which was to push the standard up for android phones.

i think that that's why people are disappointed with the nexus s. it isn't near the technological jump that the n1 was.

however, i don't think that was google's goal with the ns. the n1 is almost a year old. they just needed a developer phone with all the accessories on it so new apps can take advantage of things like the ffc, which is not on the n1. i don't think it was released to be the binford 10,000 of android phones.

and, it doesn't need to be. when the n1 was released, the amount of new android phones being released is nothing compared to today. google doesn't need the nexus line to push the envelope anymore. htc, motorola, lg, samsung(ugh), etc... are all now pushing out phones every few weeks with this one thing a little better than before. so, i don't think there is going to be a new phone that just blows away everything else out there again. it's going to be a more incremental progress for android.

Actually I find it funny that just because the Nexus S is a Samsung with an AMOLD screen that all these people that don't own one are positive it's exactly the same phone as a Galaxy. Since I have one I can tell you all it works great, has none of the issues as the Galaxy. SO, maybe it's not just a Galaxy with Gingerbread!! Just maybe it's a Samsung phone with a 4" AMOLD screen made for Google... I have loaded thousands of MP3's and lots of Apps. pix and ringtones. I haven't used much of the 16gb at all. And I have a real camera to take HD videos with.. It's a phone people....

I just spent a month in China... They say " You no like, you no buy ". There some wisdom there.

This is essentially what Im saying, they left out things, and its not a an upgrade essentially, they failed to live up to the Nexus standard.

I was on AT&T and I was looking to get a Captivate but they are riddled with problems, that guy is right about that. But that has nothing to do with any other Samsung product. Most of the problems with the Captivate IS AT&T. They suck, no question there. Nexus does not have that problem, it all comes from Google, as it should. My phone came with nothing but Google Apps, as it should. It works fast and fine, as it should... He should be canceling his AT&T contract and tossing his Captivate in the can and getting something different. Pure Google.. Hey, it works...

People are just taking it personal that have the nexus s. I was very excited about the phone until about 2 weeks before the release. Maybe people just ruined it for everyone with all the BS... oh man, its gonna have a dual core, its gonna cook pizza, and whatever else. But seriously, all within 2 weeks it was like, no dual core, no 4g, and no SD card. As someone else said "the nexus s was supposed to set the bar". It would be like me trading in my vista laptop... them going in the back with it, loading windows 7 on it, polishing it up, removing the usb ports, and then selling it back to me for twice as much.

That's silly no phones are running the Tegra 2 and from the looks of it wont hit the US until next summer but yeah I can understand the other stuff

Well... not true. The New LG phone is running the Tegra 2 dual core, but it's in Europe damn it!

I won't be getting the Nexus S. I'll wait for the dual core version.

Well, I've had mine for two days now, I've loaded tons of Apps, I've worked it for hours and hours, ran the GPS many times, WiFi tethered, games... The phone works perfect. Not one problem, except I'm running the battery down a lot. Got to carry a charger for sure. I've got 14 days to return it with the Tmo contract.. I don't think it's going back to BB.....
It's not "the perfect phone" for everyone but its works great. BTW, what is the perfect phone for $199?? Really

You might want to double check that about the 14-days. As I've been told 3 different times, by 3 different Tmo reps - that you have 30-days with this phone, because that's BB's policy, and Tmo reps each said that they honor BB's 30-day.

You'll be charged by Tmo for the time you used/pro-rated, and return to your previous plan (if you had one). So if you decide to return the phone, you go to BB, and they refund you as well as cancel your contract for you.

So far I am enjoying the phone, and hope not to have to return it. :)

Yeah, the odd part of that is... The contract you sign with BB says 30 days but the sales guy says 14 days is only Tmo's return policy. I'd bet that they would have a hard time not taking it back if the contract said 30 days return.
But I don't see my new Nexus S going back to BB.. I'm wifi tethering right now. Faster then my DSL at home. haha

Being a BBM employee I can chime in here. The 14 day return policy is how long you have to try T-Mobile and cancel your contract if you're not happy with the device or service. You can exchange or return the phone for 30 days from Best Buy, but after 14 days you are locked into your contract from T-Mobile.

So, after 14 days, you can exchange your phone for a different one up to the 30th day, but if you return the device, you will not be let out of your T-Mobile contract after the 14th day.

That's kind of the way I understood it as well... I paid full price for mine though...

The demos are going to be cruddy, laggy and will crash. I looked at a demo this evening and everything was up and running on that phone. Its being touched and played with all day. People mess with it and dont know how to kill apps, etc.

So when you got your new Nexus S, you didn't play with it for a long time?

And as for knowing how to kill apps... If you are killing apps, you don't know how to kill apps!

No Issues Here As Well! GPS Works Perfectly, As Does The Tethering! Screen Is Beautiful, And The Touch Button On The Bottom Are Much More Responsive Than My Nexus One!

I'm on AT&T With Mine, And On The Edge Network, It's Working Fine! Super Good Battery Life, And YES The Data Is Slower, But What The Heck, I'm On A Phone, Checking Emails, Using Mobile Websites, Which Load Fine, And The Actually Load Time Difference Ain't That Much Difference For Me From 3G On AT&T!

Now, If I Was Watching Streaming Video, Movies, ect....... I Guess I Would Have A Different Outlook, But Heck I Can't Forget I'm On AT&T Can't Expect Much!

It's An Awesome Device, Just My Personally Opinion!

I gotta ask all you S fan boyz if Samsung had this waiting in the wings, why with google who pushed the envelope with the nexus one when it came out was a beast of a phone would let them slide with this device being a mediocre release....Doesnt make sense to me. They had the ability to give google so much more to work with in the future and to release a much stronger phone. Oh yea they saved it for themselves i presume.

Well, you can look at it this way... Sometime about the first quarter of 2011 you'll have a new phone to complain about.
Have you stopped to think that this new phone might have been made for the masses that want the latest OS in a great working unlocked unbranded phone, and not for the few that will find something wrong with any phone that's made by anyone?
As I read it, the people that have the new Nexus S likes them and people that don't have one don't like them..

unlocked unbranded phone,

this is another thing that gets me.....

theres no difference between the branded phone and the unbranded except the branded model says tmobile. Its cheaper to buy the tmob one at 200$ and sign a contract for a day, pay the 200$ contract termination and walk away for 400$ total....download the samsung unlock app and instantly unlock it for any sim...

there ya go unlocked galaxy s for any network total price $400 instead of $500 what was the point of the unbranded for $500 again(minus out of us markets that is, i understand that).

its not a matter of having the nexus S in hand, i already have that(a Captivate), look at the specs of the phone, tell me the hard ware of that phone DIFFERS SIGNIFICANTLY FROM THE SGS MODELS, please. OH pretty please show me significant differences.

He asked why all the hate..Im telling him reasons from my stand point. The phones was not a SIGNIFICANT upgrade from their current models.

Pause... So you didn't have it in hand? Yes or No?

Apparently The reason for no 4g antennas is because it is a phone that is meant to operate globally ie unlocked meaning not just here in the u.s.... if they were to have included a tmo 4g band they might as well have given it att 3g bands and I don't really know how big 4g is abroad if at all.

As for the vapor Guy who is claiming that his touchwiz captivate is a nexus s. Its not.

The nexus s has an upgraded GPS chip

Its stock android

Has led camera flash

Front facing camera

No carrier blowtware

Hotspot tethering wifi calling (all the stock android goodies)

16 gB of internal memory

And biggest difference of all THE NEXUS S IS SUPORTED AND BACKED BY GOOGLE
unlike your captivate which isn't even really supported by Samsung

As far as HD video I'm sure someone (cyanogen) will unlock it once they build cyanogen 7 for this bad boy

The captivate is a cool phone but if you want to talk about steps backwards take a look at your non existent led flash. FAIL

The nexus s and nexus 1 are the android Dec phones meaning theoretically there shouldn't be a single app that you should find that wont work with them. Go into the market and start scanning the comments sections on apps and you will find thousands of examples of applications not working with touchwiz, sense , blur, or other phones in general.

Nexus is android.

DUAL CORE ANDROID PHONES WILL NOT BE RELEVANT UNTILL GOOGLE COMES OUT WITH A DUAL CORE NEXUS PHONE.... a year from now. till then the nexus s or nexus one will more than suffice

Well said. Except! Except, the reason it doesn't have 4G isn't because of global its because its a hummingbird processor, The hummingbird processor doesn't support HSPA+, hardly any processors do support HSPA+. The only one currently known to doing so is the Qualcomm Scorpion processors in the G2 and MT4G. Everything else though is very nicely said.
