my phone shows ev in the status bar , but I cant seem to pull up the 1x which is the symbol for the 3g network... went to the local sprint store and he said its doing what it should do... just want to make sure i am gettinng all the speed i am paying for... where I live it shows a strong 3g coverage...

Thanks......

no sprint uses a combination of 2g and 3g. 1xrtt and evdo. 1xrtt has a max speeds of 144 kbps and evdo had a max of 2.4 mbps. sprint cs is known for being clueless.

What I stated was sprint calls 1xrtt 3g. I know it not actually 3g, but that is what Sprint calls it in all its documents.
Actually, 1x is faster than 2g.
To save confusion, why don't we just do this: 1xRtt, EVDO Rev 0 and EVDO Rev A.
The whole 3g thing has gotten carried away.

BLAH!
1xRTT is 2.5g (as it is currently implemeneted) and has the capability of being considered a 3g technology, but not in its current implementation.. Your phone is ALWAYS connected to 1xRTT (unless you have no signal).. Even if you are in an EVDO coverage area...
1xRTT is used for all CDMA Voice and Text communications.
EV (EVDO (rev 0 and A) are the 3g that we have come to know and love as CDMA 3g... When your phone says EV on it, you have both EVDO (rev A in the moments case) and 1xRTT service.. When your phone says 1x on it, you have 1xRTT services BUT NOT EVDO...
They might have meant 1xEVDO. People just got lazy and left the 1x off it.
1xEV (as seen on most blackberries) is not a new signal.. all that stands for is you have 1xRTT coverage (the 1x part) and EVDO coverage (the EV or EVDO part).. Instead of it being implied by the fact that if you are in evdo you have to be in 1xRTT they just put it in the little icon to show you are connected to both..

Sprint doesn't have to say it.. look up 3GPP2.. they are the ones who claim it...
Question.. How many people that are responding to this thread even know what 3g stands for?

Hint: EDGE, UMTS, and CDMA2000 are all 3g technologies.. One reason i believe AT&T Should have won in their false advertisement lawsuit against Verizon...
