Even More Plus plan conspiracy

Well it looks like T-Mobile has taken the Even More Plus plan pricing off their website. Though the EM+ plan is still available, now customers have to speak with an in-store or telephone rep in order to get the non-contract pricing.

What is T-Mobile trying to pull? Is the EM+ option really so confusing for the average customer that they need a rep to explain it to them? Is T-Mo slowly getting rid of the EM+ plan? Are they directing customers to their stores so the reps can convince customers to get a contract instead of the EM+ plan? Or are they just hiding the lower price EM+ pricing so that naive customers aren't aware that they have a better option?

What do you think?

I think they are just moving to a "bundled" pricing tier...of course, an ulterior motive could be to get everyone on a "higher" priced plan to recoup the costs of their HSPA+ build-out.

FWIW, the option to upgrade my EMP plan to Unlimited is still available on the site, via my account login.

IMO, EM+ plans were to build guaranteed $$$ So T-mobile could finance their debt. Even though someone is on a post paid, it does not guarantee they are paid or paid on time.

Now that the debt is financed, they are roping people back in to contracts...

This is all speculatory of course, but why else do it. I went flexpay to avoid a contract, the side affect was a lower monthly cost, but I can walk when I want.

There was an announcement about this like a month ago. They removed the EM+ from the website to reduce the confusion among new customers.
Put yourself in someone elses shoes thats not too great with math. They're setting up a plan online and oh whats this? I can pay less a month and get the same plan as the one I wanted! T-Mobile sure are a bunch of suckers right! Oh wait now my phones cost $500 a piece? I'm calling them because they are trying to screw me over!!
That's the kind of stuff Tmo probably got tired of dealing with so now you just gotta be in the know.

Can anyone tell me what kind of monthly differences there are in price between the contract plans and the EM+ plans? I'm considering switching from Verizon and buying a G2 off contract looks like it's $300 more than on contract, but if I'd save more than that over 2 years than I'd consider paying the cost up front. I'd probably get the 500 minutes plus unlimited data/texting if it makes a difference. I realize I can go to a T-mobile store and ask, but I try to avoid shopping centers a week before Christmas.

You will save about a few hundred over two years. I can't remember the exact number but remember you can leave whenever you want without an etf and sell your phone and make enough back to go elsewhere if you want.

The last time the Even More Plus plan was visible on T-Mobile's website, they offered 500 minutes + unlimited text and data for $59.99. On average, the EM+ plan saves subscribers $20/month on plans with a data subscription and $10/month on plans without a data subscription (multiply by 2 for family plans). I don't know if anything has changed since they stopped advertising this plan on their website so you'll have to talk to a T-Mo rep to get the most up to date info.

I got roped into a contract and now regret it. Trying to get my data turned off on my vibrant, but I can't, cuz the data is part of the contract. So now I have to pay a ETF. I will save about $30 on a EM+ with no data as apposed to a contract with data right? So after 6 months I should recoup my loss

FWIW, I was paying $29/mo. for 500 minutes, and an additional $10/mo for unlimited "web2go" data plan, which was good for 7Mbs+ on an unlocked Nokia n900. However when I bought the Defy, they bumped me to the "Android" data plan for $25/mo. :rolleyes:

However if I had not switched back to Android (couldn't live without sling access), I could have had unlimited minutes and data for $59/mo. total...something to think about if going the contract-less/unlocked route.
