First Gingerbread ROMs for Original DROID Released - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

with some key caveats "These are first attempts though and they lack ALL Google Apps, so you won’t get the full experience, but so far, people have nothing but great things to say. In fact, most people would switch to these immediately should they actually include any of the GApps."

so.. the game is on and this shows that, as many of us expected, the smarty pants devs are finding ways to circumvent those previously leaked "suggested hardware requirements" that many reports said would be needed to run GB - 512mb onboard mem and 1ghz processors.

Point is.. GB on the D1 :)

Glad to see progress is being made.. but...

It is too premature to call it a GB rom when the USB and wifi are broken. ROMs that mix froyo and gb parts shouldn't be counted either.

this is EXACTLY how ROMs progress and most start/started. Many kernels, for example, in the beginning had functions that busted things like wifi and such.

these GB ROMs are pieced together as - until last week - that was all that could be done since only bits and pieces existed. but now, the source is out so things are about to change.

this is simple evolution.
